12/13 GDT: Red Wings 5 at Coyotes 4, (SO)

Tight hands...but he's been fine for his first game in roughly 6 months.

Gotcha. However, every bottom pairing Dman gets turned inside out from time to time. As for last night, he was a shot blocking beast and the reason Dallas didn't score on their 1:48 5-on-3.

Just like the pylon he was last night blocking shot after shot on the 5-on-3? Lebda

Since when did the Coyotes become the Phoenix Squirrels. Seriously....nice unis.

I keep forgetting Turris is on the Coyotes. There's a good ol' UW boy.

That's how it was to start the game last night as well.

That didn't take long. Sidenote: I haven't been in a GDT for a while!

Conklin to start in Dallas; Chelios to debut on Sat

I'm surprised so many people jumped to conclusions without thinking about this....its the first thing that came to mind for me. Babs is simply challenging Oz to get better and this might be just the thing to do it.

12/10 GDT: Red Wings 4, Flames 3 (OT)

You know whats hilarious about this statement? You use Anaheim, Edmonton and Calgary as a way to prove your point yet the team that won the Cup last year was more heavily European than any of those years you just listed. Get a clue.

Donald Driver's Father Beaten by Police

Donald Driver's Father in Hospital, Claims He was Beaten by Police Officers If the investigation proves what Donnie D's father is claiming, I sure as hell hope these cops are put away for a long ass time. It sure will be nice to see "justice served" inside of jail for these assholes. On top of what this article states, Driver's father also claims the "N" word was used in great amount during the beating.

    Hossa Needs New Sticks

Do you remember how many sticks Lilja broke two seasons ago. I can't remember who it was against, but Z fed a cross-ice pass to Lilja (yes, Lilja) for the game winner in OT and afterwards Z said to the reporters something like "I passed it to Lilja and his stick didn't break, so it was good".

    Sakic injured in snowblower accident

My question is why doesn't Sakic have a snow-removal service? If I had as much coin as him I most certainly wouldn't be snowblowing my own driveway. However, I'd probably get an ATV with a plow on the end just because it looks fun. My snowblower with warning signs all over it will have to do for now. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery, Joe.

The great swedish drafting could be better actually

Please explain to me why the Wings need gritty skilled Canadians on the team? The team was heavily European last year and that didn't stop them from winning. While Helm helped the cause last year, I doubt the outcome of the playoffs would have been much different had he not played. I'm not saying a good balance isn't helpful, but these types of comments are heavily over-exeggerated.

    the canadiens

Technically that would make them the 2010 Stanley Cup Champions which would make it the next decade. The Wings are the 2008 Stanley Cup Champions...not the 2007 Champs.

After Ozzie took the reigns as the starter in 98 he has easily been the #1 for almost all of it. Legace won it in 05/06 only to throw it away, Dom won it 06/07 as still one of the best to ever play the game, but other than that Oz has been the go-to guy. That's BS right there because a great team wouldn't stand pat with a mediocre-at-best goaltender when they've got a chance to win the Cup. Ozzie proved he could handle the load, hence he earned the tag. I'm not claiming he's the best ever to play the game, but he's not as mediocre as you claim him to be.

True, but that isn't an excuse for a poor GAA or SV% either. The fact of the matter is that the Wings are winning, but if they don't score as much (which is bound to happen in the playoffs) they will get bounced if the D and goaltending doesn't tighten up.

Because when the team as a whole struggles even though the goalie played well enough management will go with a youth movement and drafting for the future. Was Ozzie irreplaceable on those teams: no, was he strong enough to be the starter: you bet he was and he had the numbers to prove it. While Oz certainly isn't playing at the level he played at last Spring, he does seem to thrive when he's fighting for playing time. I've mentioned this before and perhaps a little stiffer competition with ConkBlock will help him in the long run, but you don't achieve the accolades Oz has through being a mediocre talent. If that were the case the Wings wouldn't have kept him as long as they did and wouldn't have brought him back in the first place. They could've just as easily brought up MacDonald at that point and then gone with Howard to back up Dom.

He didn't fail in NY or STL....those teams just weren't good enough. If anything Ozzie made NY better than what it was and gave STL a chance they weren't able to capitalize on. Does anyone blame Toskala for the Leafs sucking? You smell what I'm stepping in?
