Hossa has some form of a non-movement clause in his contract. He's not going anywhere atleast until the end of the season.

I was referring to 98/99 through 00/01. Edit: Just found it and it was only the 4 Cup seasons. Like McCartyFanForLife stated, it was probably due to the fact that three seasons in a row Detroit knocked them out.

I'd hope so playing alongside OMG Hossa. Sidenote: Your reply didn't have much to do with what I was stating. In all seriousness and with no ill-will intended, would you care to comment? -
"Lidstrom Cap" for re-signing next year's free agents

I'm not worried one bit, but the rant emoticon would've been nice. My response was in regards to you replying to my post stating that all players are overpaid. I simply replied that has nothing to do with market value. No harm, no foul. -

Why? For the post/pregame stuff? If thats important to you than DirectTV is the way to go as FSN Detroit HD is included with their Premiere package. If just watching Detroit sports is what you're after keep in mind that blackouts will apply if you aren't in the area. I have DirectTV with FSN Detroit HD, but I have to watch Wings games on NHL Center Ice due to Green Bay, WI being in the blackout area. Before and after the game though I flip over to FSN Detroit. -
Are you sure those were the only seasons? I could've sworn Detroit had knocked St. Louis out of the playoffs a few more times other than their Cup seasons.

This isn't just directed at you GS&T, but as much as the homerism gets to me I'm getting just as sick of hearing about how the "masses of LGW are sheep". There may be some members that go along with the trendy thing, but there are certainly *plenty* that don't. In fact, I find that the quality posters on this site tend to not get caught up in that garbage and there is enough of them.

Has looked great. In fact, his line has looked great. You know, the #1 line. Watch a game every once in awhile why don't 'cha. Kind of like Z's 3 points thus far to Dats' 2? All the while not having Hossa on his line and not to mention getting second unit PP time (and defensive pairings) compared to Dats' top unit PP time and defensive pairings. -
Whether you want to admit it or not thats a big deal in determining who gets the highest honor in Detroit. TBH, I like BRTD's idea of having a Red Wings Hall of Fame in the Joe which honors players such as Fedorov. The guy 100% deserves to be recognized for what he did for the Red Wings, but retiring his number in Detroit is in question. IMO, if its even in question it means they shouldn't have their number retired.

Good ol' Quenneville. He was probably getting tired of only losing to the Wings 4 times a year anyway. Now that he's back in the division he can get back to what he's used to....being dominated by the Wings more often.

I have no problem if Scottie comes back, but I just can't imagine he would.

What are you basing that on? I haven't had DirectTV for very long but we've had a couple rainstorms already and the feed comes through without problems and is crystal clear. -

You mean the first game, because the past two were dominated by Detroit. Franzen has been great in the past two, the HDH line was great last game and your negative bias towards Sammy clouds your judgement. Same goes for your thoughts on Hudler. -
"Lidstrom Cap" for re-signing next year's free agents
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Icesurfer's topic in General
:violin: Whether professional athelets are overpaid *as a whole* or not has nothing to do with what I said. Stating that Lidstrom should be making $3-4 million *based on current market costs* is ridiculous no matter how pissed off you are about the price of sporting events or how much atheletes make as a whole. Your disdain for that has nothing to do with Lidstroms market value. -

You talk about the first line not gelling yet they continue to look better and better each game. The second line was the same one that helped win the Cup last year and Sammy was very good on it. Hudler has been great at racking up points with lower ice-time and last I checked Vancouver wasn't the most physical of teams. What possible reasoning could you have that the team will have lots of turnovers? Based on the first game of the season? -
"Lidstrom Cap" for re-signing next year's free agents
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Icesurfer's topic in General
No offense, but if thats your opinion than it isn't very realistic based on professional sports and the current league salary cap and CBA. Just because Lidstrom isn't a spring chicken anymore doesn't mean he isn't the best player in the world. Age is minor when your play is better than anyone elses. $3-4 Million for Lidstrom. It's called reality. -

Where do you come up with this stuff? All that's missing from your post is a question that starts with "Whats to stop Chris Chelios from........" -
"Lidstrom Cap" for re-signing next year's free agents
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Icesurfer's topic in General
It's the furthest thing from silly. How much per season do you think Lidstrom is worth to any of the other 29 teams in the NHL? If Lidstrom tested the market he'd easily be making $10 million per season and it would be well worth it. Lidstrom continues to help the Red Wings brass out by signing for over $2.5 million less than what he's worth. Kenny and Co. most certainly aren't going to kick him in the balls and give Z a contract that dwarfs the guy that is *most* responsible for the Wings success these past 5-6 years. -
"Lidstrom Cap" for re-signing next year's free agents
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Icesurfer's topic in General
We all talk about it, but the Wings should patent that phrase: "The Lidstrom Cap". Actually this guy makes a great point about keeping Z's salary low for the first couple years (and really only the first year is necessary due to Lidstrom's contract expiring after the 09/10 season). That being said, the Wings also need to be careful with the cap this coming year because there are reports that it could be going down. This may be a dream scenario, but I'd love for Z to take a long-term Lidstrom like contract (I.E. $7.45 million for 7-8 years) and then if Lidstrom decides to keep playing (god willing) have him take a contract in the ballpark of $6.75-$7.25 million. While I understand what some people are saying about Lidstrom having already "made his money" and as a result he should let others have their chance, you still have to pay him a nice sized contract. He isn't making what he's worth right now, and barring an unexpected massive decline in play $6.75-$7.25 per is still going to be an absolute steal for him, but you've got to pay him well given all the cuts he's taken to help the Wings out. -

If that's the case he should just sit. Not to discredit any NHL team because even the worst ones can win against any other team on any given night, but the Canucks aren't exactly a "high-flying" team this year. Bench Z and give him a couple extra days so he's ready for the weekend.
