It's actually kind of bittersweet with all this record-shattering talk I've been hearing on LGW since Hossa was added. Maybe members will take a step back and realize it isn't a cake walk regardless of talent. As for those freaking out.....It's one game peope, relax. They also were pushing as hard as they could for the tying goal and had Hossa-ZDH and Lids-Raf on the ice. Of course it looked amazing, but Babs most certainly can't do that all game, nor should he put the ZDH line back together after *one* game.

I disagree, with Bowman and Babcock the philosophy was/is about *hard work* first and foremost. Puck Control is a big part of it and finesse to a lesser extent (this one's tough to prove simply because the Wings have such a talented squad), but if you are the hardest working team out there and you have the lineup the Wings do while playing the puck-possession style they play, chances are you're going to be successful. I would agree that this team is more known for puck-possession and skill rather than power and intimidation, but Babs (like Bowman) has this team quickly becoming known as the hardest working team on the ice.

While I understand what you're getting at, why do people get caught up in needing to have someone create waves in the media for the sport of hockey? I just don't get it. The league continues to surpass projections year after year and is in great shape financially, yet we constantly hear people on this site bring up the argument that guys like Avery help bring exposure to the sport. While I also understand the reasoning behind no press is bad press, especially in a sport that is far behind the Big 3 in America, I just don't see why people here are so hell-bent on Hockey becoming the most popular sport in America and then using things like what Avery says as avenues for that to supposedly help the sports' position. It's never going to happen. Hockey is never going to be as popular in America as Football, Baseball or Basketball, but it doesn't have to be IMO. Of course its "entertaining" to see T.O. be prick on TV (and the same goes for Avery), but it does get old. Do I respect the fact that he has the balls to say how he feels: sure. Do I wish he could also show a little class: absolutely.

If that's what he wants to be known as/remembered for, than that's sad IMO.

Or a Hummer................. .........what kind of car does he drive right now?

The Official 2008 Green Bay Packers Thread

Ugh...this team is very schizophrenic. I know they've got a s***-ton of injuries but at some point you gotta step and take over. None of the replacements have been able to do that yet. -
No one will argue that but as I said, it would just be nice for him to shut up and let his play speak for itself.
-
Is that to remind them of when they actually competed on a similar level to their opponent?

I can see the headlline now....."Jeff Already Gives Leafs Fans the Finger, Projected Out for about a Week with Foot Injury"

I figured something like that might be in order. There are plenty of times the guides don't represent whats being shown on the channel iteslf.
-
Regardless of whether Avery is right or wrong, it sure would be nice for him to shut up and just play the game for once. Talk about someone that needs to defy their own existence.

I'm sorry but I have no clue how you deduced this from my post. The only thing detrimental Downey brings to the table is the ability to play hockey. Toughness is most certainly not something he's lacking and I never inferred that. I'm lost as to where you came up with that. The majority of people don't see the regular season as boring when there isn't a great deal of fights. I get that you do, but that's just not the entertainment I'm looking for when I watch hockey. It's a bonus, but not the reason I watch. I never implied that I did have to agree with you. I'm just speaking my mind as well, and my opinion happens to differ from yours. That's the point of a message board. I certainly don't expect everyone to agree with me otherwise this place would be rather dull.
-
I'm fairly confident that would be the only time in Lilja's career that he would be on pace for 82 goals after the first game of the season.
-
Who said anything about Downey being detrimental to "team toughness"? Where did you come up with that, because I most certainly didn't say he was detrimental to team toughness. Now, his level of play is a whole other thing. The bolded comment just spoke volumes. I'm never going to bother having a conversation with you about this topic again as you and I have very different ideas of what we "want to see".

When hillbilly posts....I listen.

I'm just gonna throw something out here. If the Wings win the Cup this year with this roster can we finally put to bed this whole enforcer argument? I agree that balance is vital to a teams' success, but also feel that team toughness is more important than icing a guy like Downey night-in and night-out. If the Wings are fortunate enough to repeat this year without a night-in and night-out couple of "enforcers" can we be done with this?
-
I haven't heard anything different so I can't imagine it wouldn't be the same.

I didn't think this needed a new thread, but had to post it. This is why I love Babs:
-
It still hasn't truly sunk in that the Wings are playing for real tonight.
-
TBH, I've all but lost hope in Howard. He hasn't proven he can be the guy to fill the number 2 spot let alone the number 1 in Detroit. I was so high on this guy his first couple seasons in the AHL, but he just hasn't gotten the consistency thats needed not only at the AHL level but the NHL. I truly believe that this was his year to finally take charge and beat out Conkblcok for the backup job. Kenny told him to use that signing as motivation to win the job and the fact of the matter is he didn't. It sucks to hear it after all he was touted as being, but at some point you have to face reality. It looks like Larsson may have a better chance of being the number 1 (or even McCollum) before Howard.

Banner ceremony will be 'a little bit awkward' for Hossa
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Shutemdown's topic in General
Y'know, I didn't even think about that side of it. Atleast Conkblock and him can keep each other company while the remainder of the team enjoys it. Besides, like Babs and the rest of the team were saying....it's about the game tonight, not the ceremony. -

And LGW gets pimped to conclude the interview. I think I heard him mutter "NeverForgetMac25" somewhere in there. -

:rotflmao: Matt mentions that Lang is somewhat scorned by Red Wings fans. Lazy and Sucks....nah....that's not scorned. Like it or not, Montreal got timely playoff goal scoring in Robert Lang. It was a good pickup for them.
