One of thre reasons Restricted status is huge for the Wings. When the Wings draft a kid plenty would move on very early due to how long it takes to crack the lineup if they didn't have RFA status. That being said, being around the organization for as long as they are before they're able to make a decision to move on generally gives them enough time to realize how lucky they are to be in Detroit.

Stating "Every Year" and Matt replying with "This" is hardly belittling. Matt could very well have just been re-emphasizing that the Wings do this every year.

The fact of the matter is its not a stretch if not only the fan is new but if they don't have access to preseason games or haven't been on LGW until after the last preseason. I like to gamble to, but it's different for you and I because we're not addicts. The fact that he was playing low stakes doesn't make it better because of the way addiction works. I'm thrilled to hear he's staying away from drinking because thats half his battle, but the problem with addicts is that most of them justify what they are doing. In Macs case, I can see it starting off with him justifying that he's not drinking so its ok to indulge in low-limit gambling. After a while, low-limit gambling doesn't do it for him and perhaps he starts gambling higher amounts. Then a while later that doesn't do it, and he picks up a bottle. I'm not saying all this will happen, nor am I criticizing addicts. I have someone that is extremely close to me that has struggled with addiction for the past 7 years, and I've seen how that disease works and the mindset addicts take on. I sure hope Mac takes a step back and thinks about what he's doing because low-limit gambling is the first step in the wrong direction.

Dats probably could put up better numbers if he was on a less defensively-minded team, but I don't think he could put up Crosby numbers. Crosby is the more natural scorer, but *right now* Dats is the more complete player. Take that as you will.

I then posted an easy solution...don't bother posting if you get annoyed, but don't make people feel bad for having a question that you deem annoying. Awesome thread! The Esposito clip was Classic. I'll never forget the Tie Domi fan incident, but I don't think I've ever heard that interview with him saying its nice to have the fans get involved once in a while.

Once again, god forbid someone "doesn't know as much" about hockey as you. If you're annoyed with having to explain these things to noobs then don't bother responding in the thread. Not everyone has the hockey knowledge that people that have been around the game their whole lives have. It's not their fault, nor should they feel they can't post a question. TBH, what I'm annoyed with is all the people that start threads by saying, "I'm sure I'm going to get reamed out for this" or "please don't go off on me for this question". It's sad that some people fear posting a simplistic question because some "hockey geniuses" around here may criticize them for it. If someone repeats something, its up to the mod staff to merge threads. If they haven't caught it yet, perhaps the member base here would be kind enough to answer their question and post the duplicate thread (if there was one).

As rage said, perhaps Shoe is a new Red Wings fan, hasn't visited these boards before this preseason or never saw a preseason Wings game. Doesn't make him/her any more or less of a fan.

Let me take a quick minute and explain how you can check to see if a thread has already been created regarding your topic. When you click on the "General Discussion" link you'll notice at the bottom left part of the page there's a "Search Forum" box. I just made the switch from Time Warner to Direct TV due to the need for the NHL Network and the continuation of FOX (which broadcasts Packers games, and will be discontinued on Time Warner Cable in Green Bay starting October 2nd due to failed negotiations). Anyway, I'm fired up to finally be getting the NHL Network, and when I looked at the Networks included in my package, low-and-behold FSN Detroit HD is one of them! You can imagine how thrilled I was, and then I got to thinking further. If I receive FSN Detroit HD, does that mean I don't need to purchase NHL Center Ice this year? For those of you that have FSN Detroit, could you tell me if you receive *ALL* the Red Wings games (both home and away) and what else I have to look forward to with that channel? Keep in mind I'm only interested in Red Wings related things on that channel as they are the only team from Michigan that I cheer for. Thanks in advance for any info.

This is what Eva is referring to: Long-Term Injuries: - A player expected to miss at least 10 games and 24 days due to injury can be listed as a long-term injury (LTI). - An LTI can be covered by replacement players, as long as the replacement salaries do not exceed the salary of the injured player. - If the replacement salaries would push a team over the salary cap, the team is allowed cap relief, but only for the portion of the salary that exceeds the cap. - When the injured player returns, the team must immediately comply with the normal terms of the salary cap. It's just that using the term "cleared up" is kind of misleading on Eva's part. The cap hit doesn't go away when a player gets injured, it just allows for relief if a team is at or near the cap.
