:rotflmao: Holy Sh*t...thats the funniest and best quote I've heard all Summer! Instant Classic!
-
That's only if Schneider is picked up on Re-entry Waivers. In order for that to happen, every team would have to pass on him. Then the Ducks could send him down, but if he was brought back up, the Ducks would be on the hook for 50% of his salary. Correct I see where you and I differ now. You were assuming Bobby Ryan plays for ANA all season and makes his maximum bonus (which he's sure to play for ANA, but the bonus amount is not 100% until the season unfolds). If you max out his Cap hit based on the maximum our numbers are the same. Correct

Leino practices with Red Wings for first time

This was the point I was essentially trying to make, just in a roundabout way. -
Leino practices with Red Wings for first time

Actually Opie, I believe that had gone beyond just the coaching staff in years past. It still may be, but it used to be coaching staff as well as former players. It was more like Red Wings "Staff Challenge". -
Explain. My math has this giving ANA $4.437 million worth of Cap room *given* that a team claims him.
-
The sad part is, he really isn't that overpaid anymore considering the new Cap number and the insane UFA signings we saw this summer. Jeff Finger for $3.5...WTF!
-
This is exactly the condition he left VAN in: an overall mediocre team with a couple stars not able to carry the team on their backs. In ANA's case, it will be worse given the amount of UFA's in Summer '09. He blew it last year when he wasted money on Burt, then he waived Bryz. Now he waives Schneider, again without getting a thing in return. I don't know what the hell he's thinking, its not like he's trying to get Yashin off the books. These are solid players that could fetch atleast a return pick or two. He may have found a few loopholes last year (which Kudos to him if he was the one that found them), but other than that he hasn't done anything to deserve the praise he was getting for so long. I feel for ya, DG. The Ducks are in for a decline this season, and a massive drop the following. He's gonna fit in great in TOR.
-
Not to be rude, but I could've told you that last year already. Burke really isn't the genius so many of the media have made him out to be. He bailed on VAN after he left it in shambles and he'll do the same in ANA. Next year, he'll be gone.

Leino practices with Red Wings for first time

I wouldn't worry too much about it. First and foremost, I think his point was that the Wings are a high-powered offensive team that only got more dangerous with the addition of Hossa. Every offenseman likes to score and put up points, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they automatically do so at the expense of playing D. Now that being said, even if Leino does crack the lineup (which he very well may not), its not as if he's going to crack either of the top 2 scoring lines any time soon anyway. He may push for the third line *at best*, and if thats the case he'll probably take the spot of Sammy which puts him alongside Filppula and Cleary. Meaning he'll be on a line that's beyond defensively responsible, and he'll learn real quick what it means to play on this team and that line. -
13dats: Don't be a stranger. We always appreciate the breaking Red Wings news you've been able to offer. Good to see you around again.

Brewers Fire Yost I completely agree with the decision. The Brewers are still tied for the Wild Card but needed a shake-up immediately. Glad the decision was made. Go Brew Crew!

Thanks for popping in with a comment that had nothing to do with this debate.
-
Bottom line to this debate, if Franzen doesn't go on the tear he did from March on we wouldn't even be discussing this. Does Franzen have the potential to be an absolute beast: Absolutely. Is Hossa the much better all-around player: Without a question. The answer is Hossa.

:rotflmao: Well played. Seriously though, I just can't stand when people make things up like that. When was Lang ever a distraction in the Wings locker room? He obviously didn't fit into the Wings/Babcocks philosophy, thus he was moved for that reason. All he ever did in Detroit was what he had always done earlier in his career which was score timely goals while not playing much defense. Never once was he a problem in the locker room while in Detroit.

Just the Packers D for me, but they got me 28 points (and a Fantasy Win, BTW). -
The Official 2008 Detroit Lions Thread

I seriously really do feel for this franchise and its fans. Not only did they start absolutely no better than they did against Atlanta last week, but then they play with the emotions of the fans by coming all the way back, only to get blown-out immediately thereafter. It's just amazing to me that the Ford family just doesn't demand more of this organization. They've seriously become as complacent as MLSE. As for the Kitna, while he handed the game completely over, the Lions secondary did nothing but the same. Rodgers picked them apart almost all afternoon. Between Marinelli and Millen, they both have to go. Sorry Lions fans (but not sorry the Packers won). -

You sure you wanna stick by this comment? Rodgers is *clearly* the best QB in the NFC North. -
Why would Lang be a distraction?
-
Not to mention the salaries/Cap Era.

On defense, but not on offense. There's nothing wrong with speculating and debating about line combinations until the start of the season, its part of the reason people come here in the offseason.....to discuss the teams future. That being said, this writer obviously missed Babs' interview because his suggestion is nothing like what Babs is thinking. That being said, I don't think much of anyone would think to have Filppula center Homer and Franzen. That just isn't a good line whatsoever.
-
I laughed so hard at this particular comment below it:
-
You'll see it this season. If Babs sticks with his plan of Huds-Z-Mule, that line will click and you'll see a whole new level of numbers coming from Rex.
-
Whoops....fixed.

Even though this probably should be in its own thread given that this thread is in regards to Z, I'll still answer your initial question, which BTW was a fair one. TBH, I'm not getting ahead of myself in regards to Hossa being on the Wings long term. While I think Kenny will do everything he can to keep him, I'm also not holding my breath if he doesn't. With Z, Mule and Hudler all up for raises and the uncertainty of where Hossa will end up if the Wings are fortunate enough to win it all this year, I think there are too many factors to make any real solid predictions. Either way, I'm excited he's gonna be here this season and I can't wait for October 9th to get here.

Question for everybody regarding Hossa

Oh, you can bank on that. After all, freaking out is the hockey forums "way".
