No he shouldn't have. The author stated in the parameters that the list was based on having a contract in place that guarantees the traded player will be a part of his new team for years to come. Z's contract is up after this season. If Z signs a contract even remotely similar to Dats' he'd be right around Datsyuk on this list.

USA Today: Red Wings are obvious #1, but...
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Shutemdown's topic in General
The author is correct in stating that no team (regardless of talent) should count their chickens before they've hatched, because plenty of times the Wings were supposed to win it all and came up short. Where he/she loses you is the Yankees comment, simply because of what it used to mean. The old expression was used because they always won and had an unlimited pocketbook. Now, if teams or fans hate the Wings, its simply because they can't compare to the way the Wings organization is run and the success that it breeds. As for the rest of the rankings....MTL 2nd? PIT 3rd? SJ 4th? DAL 5th? I disagree with all those. Here's mine: 1: Detroit 2: San Jose (Slim margin over Dallas) 3: Dallas 4: Montreal 5: Pittsburgh -
Barrie already beat me to the punch on this, but this reasoning is no longer accurate, nor valid.

What makes the Red Wing's organization worth taking less money

All the Little Caesars you could possibly eat. What athelete would turn that down? -

QFT....and its huge the Kenny not only recognizes it, but how to approach the situation with those types of players. You don't need them night-in and night-out, but you *do need them* on an as-needed basis. Being able to call them up whenever you please is beyond huge. -

Drinking and Drugs are the last thing Mac is going to be doing regardless of where he goes. -

Well, he's essentially broke or has very little in his account due to the bankruptcy, but sure....go ahead and judge him for wanting to make a little money before he has to retire and then probably scrape by in some minor hockey role. Was his career saved by the Red Wings generosity: Absolutely. Is he a terrible person for wanting to put a $575,000 in his bank account this year rather than $100,000: I don't think so, and I'm sure he'd like to have some money available for his family. As for not having success anywhere....give me a break. It's not as if Mac was a journeyman and then all of a sudden flourished in the Winged Wheel. Over the course of his 14 year pro career, he's played only 99 games for another team. To top it off, Mac was in the worst shape mentally and emotionally when he signed with Calgary, which I would venture to guess played a sizable role in his play. If that was true, why wouldn't he just sign immediately? As Holland told him, he's checking out his options which at his age (and his current situation) I can't blame him for. -
Green Bay, WI.......9 hours there and 9 hours back.

I'm thankful as hell that I got to be at that game and that the Wings won the Cup, but that doesn't make the OP ungrateful. Just because I was lucky enough to be there doesn't mean it didn't hurt knowing I was 34.6 seconds away from seeing my favorite sports team celebrate winning the Stanley Cup in front of the home crowd. Don't be so melodramatic.

Spector: Wings have set themselves up to repeat
NeverForgetMac25 replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Agreed.....and its not as if the author of this article was telling us anything we haven't already heard about any defending Stanley Cup Champion. This is the sort of article you hear about plenty, but I don't see motivation being the problem. The fact of the matter is that there are plenty of players on this roster with multiple Cups, some who just won their first and will want to taste it again as the season wears on, and Hossa who's desperate to get his hands on one. TBH, I'm more worried about health with the small amount of cap space the Wings have than I am about motivation. -
I didn't realize my mother-in-law was a member of LGW. Gofigure.

Hell Yeah! On top of it, you just feel gangster playing with a Sher Wood. Not directed at you GS&T: But that's not to say there aren't some great composite sticks out there that are more pricey. There certainly are and if you play regularly, you'll notice enough of a difference.

Well, its pretty convenient for you to say that seeing as that you actually "get" the HD feed from FSN. Not all of us live in Detroit and have FSN HD available, and thus are forced to have the crappy feed that NHL Center Ice sticks us with. Don't get me wrong, I would love to be able to watch every game on FSN-D HD with Mick, but its not always an option. For those of us that it isn't, did you ever think that perhaps we might want to see a game or two in HD throughout the season?
-
Yeah......I just hate watching games on a nationally brodcasted high-definition platform. Milbury sucks, but the feed is gorgeous and gets to a lot of people.

I wonder if Matt will post his "OMG! WE GOT HOSSA!" animation? Still, it sure looks like someone's happy to be a Wing. Sidenote: This is hilarious....."He also was being interviewed by a local radio station and when asked what he does to kill time in the off season, he said vacuum... He said the noise reminds him of playing in front of a packed arena"
-
Two-way deal....I'm fine with it. Downey can be effectively utilized in that role for the Wings. Had it been one-way, I wouldn't have been too happy.
-
Just a FYI, Opie.....Mats was drafted and played for Quebec the first 4 years of his career.

When the Leafs brass starts threatening to make you a healthy scratch every night until you waive your NTC, any of the other 29 teams starts to look good.

To me, the fact that Bo doesn't want to re-sign with FLA is moot. The fact of the matter is now Florida is stuck with McCabe. Well played Toronto!

Oooh..........the members here that have this mindset are the majority of the ones I debate with because I tend to think there judgement is cloudy based on personal feelings. Its no different than the goalie-slappies we have here that made the past couple years somewhat of a living hell. The bottom line is that I live by the sentence in my signature. I didn't say 'win'.........I said 'earn'. There's a big difference there seeing as that he had to earn the right to move up to the Wings roster. Once he was there, injuries took place and he was put in the lineup.
