What Oz has done for this franchise and the others he's played for has been remarkable. His numbers and accolades speak for themselves, but as much as it will piss off some...I don't see him making up in the rafter, HOF'er or not. You look at how many guys have played for the Winged wheel yet only 6 guys currently have their number retired. Detroit is beyond stingy with the players they decide to have their numbers retired (which I completely agree with) and I truly believe #5 will be the next rather than #30. It's no knock on Ozzie, IMHO guys like Fedorov don't deserve to be up there as well and guys like Z and Dats have a hell of a long way to go to even be in the discussion as well. I'm ultra picky about who gets up there because the more players they retire, the less of an honor it becomes....and in Detroit, that's what it deserves to be. That being said, I can't imagine he wouldn't make the Hall. He's most certainly worthy of it and deserve to be there.

Red Wings sign Ty Conklin to 1 year contract
NeverForgetMac25 replied to smintlin's topic in General
I know we're splitting hairs here, but I've got their cap space at $6,828,788 with the removal of Emmerton and McDonald and the addition of ConkBlock all included. 13 Forwards, 7 Defensemen & 2 Goalies -
You never said that initially. Had you done so, this debate would've sparked a very different discussion. Based on what is Howard not a goalie who can take a team to the SCF's? His whole 2 years of playoff experience? The fact that he played in front of a depleted roster during the 2010 season and the rest of the guys burnt out during the SJS series? Or the fact that the only guy to show up games 1-2 against SJS this year was him? Had the team played even slightly up to par, this series would've been over in 5-6, rather than even needing a game 7. What game 7 were you watching? After the first period, and with the two key injuries up front the team was simply hanging on as long as they could. I actually touched on this in my initial post to RusDRW. I'm in complete agreement with you.

This thread was created because I want to continue this discussion and it belongs in its own thread, not the one regarding the Ty Conklin Signing.

What about his 1-1 record in game 7's (both of which were on the road) inspire such little confidence in you? Admit it, you just don't care for him....because while he may not be Brodeur in his prime, he's certainly more capable than most goaltenders in the league especially at his $2.25M price tag. I don't disagree, but he was referring to shootout performance and numbers that were completely false. That is what (and all) I called him out on.
-
So, your opinion is in most shootouts Howard gives up 2 goals. You expect members to actually let that fly when its complete bulls***? I watch a hell-of-a-lot more than 70 games a year, and stating that alleged shootout you're referring to *best describes* Howard is complete garbage. First off, when was this shootout? Two seasons ago would be the only time it could've happened. If that be the case, why don't you acknowledge how solid he's become, especially last season giving up 2 total goals while facing 17 shots! That's ******* great for any goalie in the NHL to only give up. So, the point being is stop posting garbage that isn't true and pretending one poor performance in a shootout is what best describes him when *facts* and *logic* prove otherwise. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, but similarly everyone has the right to call your points out when you post things as fact when they're not. But...I digress. Back to ConkBlock! If he's signed for the reported $750k, its a great deal for Kenny and the Wings. That's a solid number for a guy I expected to command $1M even.
-
Oh really? Last season while at home he gave up 1 goal on 6 shootout attempts. While on the road, he gave up only 1 goal on 11 attempts. Stop posting bulls*** information as fact when its clearly incorrect. It's not only annoying it makes you lose credibility.

Red Wings sign Ty Conklin to 1 year contract

Did you happen to notice the team playing in front of him the past two years? -
The reason he got the blame for that series was because he became a head case. Basically showing he had no faith in himself to not only his teammates but the media as well. Legace was great when the pressure wasn't on, the second it was.......

The Salary Cap isn't out of control. The league revenues are, which is causing the salary cap to rise. That's a good thing though for the league itself. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the league having the cap where it is right now given the fact that league revenues support it being where it is. The problem is teams in poor markets whose owners rightfully don't want to spend $60+ million per year when they know they're going to lose money.

Anyone who thinks Ozzie sucks is clearly delusional. At the same time, anyone that isn't even the slightest bit concerned for stability at the number 2 spot given his health concerns is no different.

Boston, Montreal and Toronto all in our division....seriously a dream come true! It'd also be nice to beat up on Pittsburgh more often and ease Philly's mind in knowing they'll never get swept in the Stanley Cup finals by us again. The only downside, this puts Kenny and Darcy's relationship on the rocks.

*Whips out the wild card: Predators take on Lebda's moronic contract* Alright, has nothing to do with what we're talking about but worth making fun of nonetheless.

I can't believe they'll even air that Pavel one! God I have man-love for that guy!

Fixed it for you. IMHO, Miller is garbage. -
^ To me, that makes more sense. The luxury tax system is something I've pushed for a long time given what it could do for the big market teams and how the revenue generated would aid the smaller markets. Lastly, it pisses me off even more so because the league has obviously been more and more successful each and every year, yet Bettman and Co. want to further tinker with it so the failing teams have a better shot to win. What's even worse is that if/when those teams do win, the fans won't give a s***. The following year they'll have the same attendance woes and poor TV ratings. It's like Bettman and Co. are chasing this dream, which they'll likely never attain and if by some miracle they do, it'll be like finally finding the end of the rainbow only to discover there was never a pot of gold there waiting for you.
