I brought it up for the purpose of explaining why the NHL season starts when it does....but of course hillbilly can't resist talking Brett Favre or saying "Go Titans!". The fact of the matter is that the NHL is beyond a distant 4th to Football in America, and by starting the season in September you guarantee even less media exposure due to the NFL's popularity. Not to mention it then has to battle with the MLB's playoff push. Not so good for a business that already draws nowhere near the money the other two do. Edit: Clarity

I couldn't agree more with what the Wings are doing with Ericsson and Howard. There's no need to bring up Howard given that the Wings signed ConkBlock and this will give Jimmy ample starts in GR to let the Wings brass make up their mind once and for all with his future on the Wings. Aside from that, the Wings already have too many Dmen, and Ericsson should spend one more year in GR to be "the guy" and then be brought up next year full-time. Besides, Ericsson can be brought up and sent back down at any time this season where as Meech and Q can't. Edit: Addition

There's more talent with the ZDHLR line, but there's no guarantee they'll be as cohesive as the Russian 5 were. I still picked the ZDHLR line. For Christ's-sake, just imagine what it would look like having Z and Hossa being set up all day by Dats knowing you have two of the top 5 Dmen in the league covering your back. Terrifying.

The no-movement clause just guarantees that he can't be moved because he only came to Detroit because he feels this team has the best chance to win the Cup. There's no way Holland would trade Hossa at the deadline, but as you said, "for his own safety".

I think Kenny would move Q, Meech or Lebda before he moved Lilja (and rightfully so). This article basically states that one will have to be moved, but I don't think Kenny would move Lilja given the sign-and-trade no-no. I don't think you have anything to worry about it. It seems the Wings brass is really high on Ericsson (especially Babs). If any guys are gonna be moved it'll be Meech or Q.
