That's because the Blues rarely make a spalsh in the UFA pool. History has shown that. Suggesting they move Mason or Legace so they have more room than the $11 million they already have is ridiculous. They aren't going to pick up anyone of significance as it is, so to suggest they should move one of their goalies to create more space isn't needed or close to being necessary.

When did I say they shouldn't upgrade? I couldn't agree more, and they have $11 million in cap room to do so. Trading Legace or Mason isn't the solution to STL's problems. That's the point.

9.7% of the teams cap on for your goaltending position is hardly "too much" to be spending, especially when your team has the cap room to make a decent splash in the UFA market.

First and foremost, the Blues can't "try and bring in a player like Guerin". He's signed through the upcoming season for the Isles. It's not like he's an UFA that they can just add with their $11 mill in cap space. Speaking of cap space, if Legace is so good why wouldn't the Blues just keep him since they're only 1 forward short of a starting lineup (not roster)? I'm fairly certain their goalie combo isn't striking the utmost fear from any NHL team. They have two 1B's at best and more realistically two 2A's in their goaltenders. I'm sorry, but I'm starting to get even more lost by your reasoning.

Good the bad and the ugly

Decent top power rankings but I absolutely would've put the Sharks in the number 2 spot. I said before the playoffs ended that Dallas will be a force next year, but the defensive additions the Sharks have made this past week, dumping Hanta Yo Baby for McLellan, topped off with the talent they currently had will make them (IMO) the second best team in the NHL. Dallas third and Pittsburgh 4th.

Not liking a player is not a valid reason for getting rid of them. Why would the Wings trade (or better yet get rid of bargain players that bring solid depth) when they can sign a goaltender that cost nothing in terms of players and for a mere $750,000? Legace is going to make $2.5 million this year. To put that in perspective, that's $800,00 more than Osgood! Mason will be making $3 million next year and he's signed through 2010. On top of those things, neither Legace or Mason have shown they can lead a team anywhere in the postseason. Than to top it all off, you take away more cap space from the Wings when they don't have a ton of it to deal with if they want to make a move at the deadline. Sorry, but I'm not seeing the logic in trading Sammy or Lilja for either of those two.

    Morrison signed by Ducks

Can I ask what makes hockeybuzz more accurate than NHL Numbers.com? What basis do you have for that reasoning? I will agree that NHLScap.com is also very good, but according to their site when you add up the players that will count against the cap, they are not at the $56 million mark hockeybuzz indicates.

    You're the GM

Why him or Lilja? Because "we" at LGW don't like them and they must be expendable in Kenny's mind as well as a result? First and foremost, the member I quoted stated they'd move Sammy now for cap space or picks/prospects. They didn't say anything about waiting until the deadline, so I wasn't referring to that. $1.2 million for the season for Sammy is beyond fair. The deadline is a completely different issue. Now, why would any team in the NHL trade a rental to the Red Wings at the deadline for another player that will become an UFA at the end of the season (which is what Sammy's situation is)? What possible purpose would that serve the team that makes a deal with the Wings at the deadline? Sure, it would help the Wings' cap situation given proration, but why would another team want Sammy in return for one of their elite? Next, Lilja was just signed as an UFA. He is not going to be moved unless you want to break the cardinal rule of UFA signings. Lilja will not be moved.....not even at the trade deadline. You can mark that. Lastly, I don't understand how the majority of LGW thinks Kenny's a God for bringing in and signing the players he does yet how can he not see how "worthless" Lilja and Sammy are? I just don't understand how members of this site don't understand what Kenny is trying to accomplish and the gameplan he's been using ever since he's been here, and moreso even since the Salary Cap was instituted.

    Morrison signed by Ducks

Also, Reds4Life, the Ducks have 13 offensemen signed, not 12. Whether they'll play Wirtanen or not is another issue.
  10. NeverForgetMac25

    Morrison signed by Ducks

Where are you getting that number from? Because NHLnumbers.com says you're absolutely wrong.
  11. NeverForgetMac25

    Morrison signed by Ducks

Where did you get that from? The Ducks are sitting at $54.463 right now, and Morrison only made $3.2 million last year. If he gets a contract even similar to that it'll put the Ducks right at the Cap limit, but certainly not over by a few million atleast. That being said, the Ducks do need to sign atleast one more Dman seeing as that they only have 6 under contract at this point.

Ugh....for the millionth time, Samuelsson takes up practically no cap space is beyond defensively responsible and on top of that, showed the ability to score timely goals in the last two playoffs (2007 - Game 6 in SJ, 2008 - Game 1 of the SCF's). Somebody tell me a player out there making as little as Sammy does that can contribute with the *all-around* play Mikael does. Sorry.....back on topic.

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD

Not all of us are from Michigan so we have to make due. For those outside of Michigan, of all the sites I've seen Amazon has it the cheapest and they are supposed to ship today.

So I don't suppose you remember if it was a credible source or not. That would be beyond incredible considering the others only had about an hour. Don't get me excited for nothing.

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD

No. None of the previous *individual* Championship DVD's did, so I can't imagine this one would. However, the Red Wings Box set entitled "Detroit Red Wings: A Celebration of Champions" does have the entire cup-clinching game of the 97 SCF though. The 97, 98 and 02 Championship DVD's were also included in this set.

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD

Yeah, its interesting how in the video I posted they mention that it can be bought in stores today (7-7-08) when the release date on Amazon, NHL.com and other online retailers all say tomorrow (7-8-08). Edit: (Kelsey) Grammar

    Bertuzzi a Flame

If you're asking this question based on CGY's cap number, the answer is "no". That number is without Nolan. So yes, they have some dealing to do.

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD

TBH, I'm glad its not. I understand the story and battle PIT had to reach the Finals but I don't want half of the DVD to be about them. While it would be nice to maybe add a five or so minute mini-recap, its not as though its necessary. I buy the DVD for the Wings journey, not the journey of the final team they beat out.

Behind the Scenes look of Wings Championship DVD

I can't imagine it'll be any different than the 97, 98 and 02 versions where they briefly discuss offseason acquistions, training camp and the regular season. I would think they'll touch on the Rafalski addition right away, followed by the s***ty month of February, followed by the addition of Stuart discussed over the course of the first 5-10 minutes. After that, the next 45 minutes will probably be completely dedicated to the Playoffs. Before I forget, they'll probably throw the changing of philosophy with the addition of Babcock and the fact that the Wings have been able to stay competitive in the salary cap era in the first 10 minutes as well.

    Bertuzzi a Flame

Just an FYI: According to NHLnumbers.com 1/3 this year and 1/3 next year.

    Bertuzzi a Flame

My bad. I was asking the wrong question but just figured it out myself. Since he was set to make $4 million this coming season, ANA is responsible for $1.333 million (1/3 of his contract--which plus $2.667 would equal $4 million). I know the Ducks still pay, but that has nothing to with Bert's new contract. Thanks skacore. Brainfart from the long weekend.

    Bertuzzi a Flame

Sidenote: The Flames are at $56.179 before Bert's contract even kicks in.
  23. NeverForgetMac25

    Bertuzzi a Flame

So IIRC, are the Flames responsible for $2.667 million?

Red Wings To Play Blackhawks In Winter Classic

It's a real game worth all the standard points. No different than the game this past year or the MTL game before the lockout.

Will Datsyuk/Zetterberg become a PPG player this year?

TBH, they both have a decent shot of reaching the feat. Especially toward the end of games if they are down and need to stack the top line to get a goal or two. Put Hossa with either of them, and both of their point totals will be sicker than they already are.
