Red Wings To Play Blackhawks In Winter Classic
NeverForgetMac25 replied to RedWingsFanatic's topic in General
I'm terrified of this. I had uber-trouble getting tickets to Game 5 of the SCF's this year and I know it'll be almost as difficult to get tickets to this game. Seeing as that Shelly and I live only a little more than three hours from Chicago, I will definitely be at this game. I always try to make Red Wings games in Chicago, but the Winter Classic is icing on the cake. -
Must! Resist! Stupid! Dry! Humor! Joke! The same was said about Datsyuk before he started shooting the puck. Filppula will never be a Datsyuk caliber or possess the skill Dats has, but he could learn alot from the way Datsyuk starting shooting the puck more. Datsyuk: 2006/2007 SOG: 207 2007/2008 SOG: 264 27.53% increase Filppula: 2007/2008 SOG: 122 2008/2009 SOG: ??? What's really interesting is that Val went from a 13.2 Shot/Goal % in the 06/07 season to a 15.6 Shot/Goal % this past year while increasing his shot total by 60.53% from the previous year. That's a great accomplishment given that most people's Shot/Goal % drops the more shots they take. TBH finishing isn't Filppula's problem, its his lack of shooting that he needs to get away from. That's true, but most people make comments about Detroit not knowing that the players themselves don't live in the city. Again, I'm not defending it, but I believe the point of what he was making had very little to do with the quality of life the players are living. BTW, I agree that Kenny would never make a comment of the sort. Edit: (Kelsey) Grammar

While I don't argue Lowe is garbage, I don't think he was really trashing Detroit on that comment. I think his point was that there are nicer cities that a hockey player could choose from, but given that they still pick Detroit over the others and for a discount. Perhaps he was offsides with the "Who wants to live in Detroit" comment, but his point was that Kenny and Co. have done a stellar job.

For a contract near the salary floor.....absolutely.

I love how other fans refer to us as D only

QFT However, on top of that it's not as if the Wings are seriously not known as a team that can put the puck in the net. There was a lot of question marks on offense heading into 06/07 without Stevie and Shanny and 07/08 without Lang, but all it did was hold guys like Franzen, Cleary, Hudler and Filppula more responsible for burying the puck.....which they did. These Red Wings aren't going to be known as more offense than defense, but anyone that pays even slight attention knows the Wings can score plenty. -
Wow....its not as if Brad Stuart is chopped liver. He may not be a Marian Hossa, but its not as though he was Cory Cross.
-
I know, but he referred to it as last seasons' numbers.
-
The author of that article needs to check his facts. I wasn't aware that Vancouver made the playoffs last season.
-
Actually, I agree completely. I don't care how stacked of a roster a team has, the playoffs are a different beast and you never know what's going to happen.
-
True, but this isn't great either.
-
Waiting to hear the financial terms before I judge this one.
-
$1.5 is a shade spendy for BGL, but a good pickup to watch over their skill guys.
-
Well, you got the young part right. I feel for you Mack.
-
There was practically zero chance he was going to get *any* playing time with the Wings this year, so its best for him.
-
McCabe gets Fingered!
-
Great deal for the Pens. $5 mil per is a nice discount considering what some other goalies have signed for the past few days.
-
Nevertheless, this does help aid the bleeding. While I agree these two together don't equal a Hossa, keep in mind that they need to fill out roster spots up front, and that these two combined are still $1.4 million less than what Hossa signed with Detroit for. Decent signings....that's about it.
-
Name one person in this world that actually has a sack full of doorknobs.
-
As for nicknames, as long as we call our new goalie "ConkBlock" I'm happy!
-
Hossa tends to be more of a sniper than a SO scorer. Besides, Hudler was fine on SO's. Maybe rotate the two until one takes hold of the number 3 slot since I don't see Babs moving Z or D from the top spots. Well, then mark it down Babs!
-
Fixed it for you. He was reported to have been offered 9 years/$81 million. Edit: That being said, I couldn't agree more with you and I continue to state it in other threads.

TBH, I'll feel fine. The guy took a massive paycut, and risked long-term security because he needs to win a Cup. I admire someone that does what he just did, if even only for a year. Sure, I'd love to have him on the Wings long-term, but I'm also realistic. Mark this quote if you want. If the Wings win the Cup and he moves on, I'll be the first to thank him and wish him the best of luck. Edit: (Kelsey) Grammar

Then this should go in the rumor section, unless you have a confirmed source.
