Does Kronwall become our hard hitting guy?

I tend to agree, but on top of what VM1138 said, I can certainly see him playing like that but just not all season. In the playoffs is was extremely important for Kronwall to play the way he did, and while it would be great to see it every game of the regular season as well, it may not be the smartest thing for his body. Phaneuf hits plenty, but there are plenty of games (if not the majority) where he doesn't stand up or flatten a guy at the blue line during the regular season, and that is what I see out of Kronwall this coming year. We're going to see plenty of massive hits playing alongside Stuart, but not every game.

    Keeping Hossa longterm

As much as I'd love to see Hossa stay on the Wings, I question whether he'll end up here if the Wings are fortunate enough to win it all again next year. This move of his was completely selfless and all about his need to win a Cup. I applaud him for his decision, but I also don't think its realistic to assume he'll continue to take 1-year deal or massive breaks, especially if the Wings win the Cup. Here's hoping he loves it here and decides to go the Lidstrom approach and take less money to keep the Wings very competitive.

    Wow, Pittsburghers are really ticked

All the sour grapes are hilarious, because you know they'd be saying how great Hossa was for doing what he did had the situation been reversed.

    fedorov and the cup?

If it is what you're asking, there's no doubt that's him.

    Doug "Dead Weight" to Islanders..

That was part of it, but Teemu didn't sign on until months later. Yes, they needed cap room, but scoring was also a major concern up until Weight was added. That being said, it never became a non-issue the rest of the season even when Teemu was added.

    Doug "Dead Weight" to Islanders..

No, they traded for him early in the season to "get some scoring". How'd that work out for you Burke?
  7. NeverForgetMac25

    It almost isn't even fair.

You're right in saying that Toronto will suck for years, but its not because of this reason. Plenty of players "want" to play for Toronto. Their management just makes dumbass decisions on who they bring in and what they pay them.

Holland: Wings will wait until Sept. for D trade

They wouldn't have traded him anyway. Again, he was signed a couple days ago and the last thing you do is sign and trade.

    Holland on OTR

Because he's the best player in the world, and continually takes paycuts to give his team the best chance of winning the Cup.

    Holland on OTR

And TBH, nobody should make more than Lidstrom on this Wings team. The guy takes paycut after paycut to continue to help the Wings be as competitive as they are year after year. If the best player in the world is willing to take a paycut to give your team the chance to be a perennial contender, everyone else that comes to the Wings needs to do the same. When it comes to the Red Wings, no one should be making more than Lidstrom.

Gimme a break. Now you're just exaggerating.

Holland: Wings will wait until Sept. for D trade

Thanks for the update. Holland will have no problem moving our bottom Dmen. There will be plenty of teams looking to shore up their holes during training camp or pre-season.

    Our Power Play Now

Of the PP units suggested thus far, this is the lineup I guarantee the Wings will start the season with. As others have said, it would be great to have Stuart on the second unit but Sammy's RH shot gives the Wings more options. On top of that Sammy is extremely defensively responsible which is a bonus.

    Holland on Hossa

Illitch probably told Kenny to somehow pump the Tigers in the Press Conference.

    Quincey & Ericsson

For those saying they can see Lebda being moved, I completely disagree. Lebda has a ton of experience compared to Q (or Meech for that matter) and he's locked in through next year making $650,000 and $850,000 respectively. That's absolutely nothing for a player of his calibre to be making and thus, the Wings will want to hang on to him simply because of that. Q could demand about the same type of contract in Detroit but he comes without the experience. I'll take Lebda for his locked in contract for the next couple years and move Q. As others have said Ericsson will be in GR, so that's not even an issue. Meech or Cheli....that'll be intersting to see who the number 7 guy is.

    Detroit-Chicago

Kenny will bring in one or both. He's already stated that it is a priority this offseason to bring in a player like that to keep things under control. Besides, it's not as though every player on the Wings roster will play every single game this season. Bumps and bruises do happen.

    Detroit-Chicago

I absolutely doubt that will be the case. Holland has already said he'll offer DMac a contract, and now that Hossa got the majority of the cap space I can see them re-signing Downey to a contract similar to the one they'll offer DMac. A nice low, two-way contract would be phenomenal for those two.

    Ron Hainsey to Atlanta

$4.5 million per for a mediocre at best Dman, with mid-range scoring and coming off a couple minus seasons. Hmm......

    Detroit-Chicago

Sidenote: I can't believe we haven't heard from "RuutuAndHavlatOwnACopyOfPrettyWoman" yet.

    Detroit-Chicago

So, is it your contention that the Wings skated scared when they played the Hawks this past season?

    Wings current rank

If there's one thing I do know about Osgood, its that he's NEVER been overrated. He's still gets zero credit from all sorts of media.

    Best offseason for Wings Ever?

See, to me this offseason is more exciting simply because of the feat he accomplished to make it happen. I'm not saying it was easy in 2001, but what Kenny did this year is beyond amazing. I guess we'll have to call it a 1A, 1B thing.
  23. NeverForgetMac25

    Hossa prefers Detroit?

What NN means is that if Hossa had signed a long-term contract with the Wings, they'd have no problem with this first year of it. The subsequent years would be extremely difficult.

    Malkin stays with the Pens

Solid deal for the Pens. They gotta be happy with that.

    Marian Hossa a Red Wing, 1yr, $7.45m

I know this was looking like it was going to happen yesterday, but..........source?
