Keep in mind that he was +12 on a team that finished 32 goals in the hole. Lilja finished -2 on a team that finished +73. I'm not saying that Salvador is worth $2.9, but that isn't that horrible of a contract based on the minutes he puts in on a nightly basis.
-
Correct, except he'll be an UFA next year, not a RFA.

Lilja re-signs w/2-year, est. $2.4M deal
NeverForgetMac25 replied to pinkprincess027's topic in General
Sucks that Stuart is all but gone, but a decent deal for both sides. -
How insane of me to assume you were referring to me because you quoted me. I wonder where I came up with that conclusion. As for the 90% of what I mentioned, I'm giving reasoning and a purpose for Mac's stay in Detroit next season, simply based on the fact that Kenny has already said he'd offer him a new contract. Again.....what am I thinking? Maybe I should just say Mac isn't a heavyweight.
-
How the hell did you come up with this response based on the post of mine you quoted? When did I ever say Mac was a heavyweight at this point of his career? What do you not understand about my idea of signing Mac to a two-way contract? Kenny has already said he's going to offer Mac a new contract so for you to sit here and question the need for him on the team is moot. He's going to be on the Wings unless some other team offers him something better. Given that *I understand that*, I proposed the idea of signing him to a two-way contract to help keep his salary off the books partly and to only be brought up on an as needed basis. With you post, it seems as though you think I'm asking that he gets top line minutes. I swear, some people are just so trigger-happy when they see something that they don't even bother to check and see if their response is out of context. Don't be so quick to hit that reply button.

Works out great for TB if they bench him most of the season.
-
No worries. The TSN Trade Deadline Tracker is always very visually pleasing, where as the Free Agent Signing Page is always a little more straight forward seeing as that it spans over the course of the Summer.
-
Are you sure you're not confusing it with the trade deadline tracker?
-
The funny part about being stupid within a limit is it truly screws your team much more than before the cap era. Atleast back then if you had an owner that didn't mind spending, you could always bring in other talent without reservation aside from money.

QF Absolute T! As great as Kenny is at getting guys to take a paycut to be with the Wings' winning franchise, this is just getting scary.

Bertuzzi would be the furthest thing from a replacement from Drake. The two of them are so beyond different players it isn't even comparable.
-
I don't see him coming here again. Toronto is one thing, but I really wonder if he'd come back at this point given that he bailed a year ago. Even still, if he comes back he'll need to work much harder than he did in Anaheim. Every season Babcock has been in charge of this team, it gets more and more demanding and more difficult to play for/against. The work ethic on the Wings is absolutely second to none.

Projects are one thing, but Emery hasn't grown up enough yet to be given a chance in the Winged Wheel. Emery is in a completely different place than Cleary was in when he tried out with the Wings. Besides, the Wings finally need to figure out if they have something with Howard. Even still, I don't see Kenny bringing in Emery.

:rotflmao: Does anybody remember his comment after he inked Bert? It was something almost idential to: When you have a chance to sign Todd Bertuzzi, you do it. Good call Burke. Throw away your future because of cap limitations so you can get your precious Bert only to put on waivers the very next season. Moron.

No, you're absolutely right. It was a brainfart on my part (that rhymes). Dats-Z-Homer Franzen-Fil-Sammy Maltby-Draper-Cleary Hudler-Kopecky-DMac/Downey An FA or two to round out the lineup.
-
Pretty much figured that. I'd magine Kenny would bring in a replacement for Drake regardless of whether or not Kopecky is ready to go or not. Dats-Z-Homer Franzen-Fil-Sammy Maltby-Draper-Cleary Hudler-Helm-Kopecky DMac/Downey I'm not holding my breath. I'd love it, but just don't see it happening. 2 year/$1.25 million per (which looks reasonably accurate) is a solid deal for Lilja's role on this team. Hopefully its no more than $650,000 given that he's likely to only play half the season and he made $850,000 last year. However, a good signing if the price is right. You can never have too much depth on your blueline, especially if it comes at a reasonable price. Z is Lazy and he Sucks! No surprise here! Sidenote: Who was it last year that stated in a thread that Arice89 and I were wrong to think Z could be signed as early as July 1st? Don't expect Henrik Zetterberg to sign a long-term extension on July 1 like San Jose's Joe Thornton did last year. He stated that a new deal couldn't be signed before the first day of the season. This article respectfully disagrees with him. Time to let Jimmy s*** or get off the pot. I'd rather see them claim a goalie off waivers if Jimmy flops after the first couple months than see them bring in a mediocre goalie that will just be a spot-holder. A spot-holder isn't going to help the Wings' playoff run if Oz gets injured. PERFECT! Exactly what I stated I wanted in the Enforcer thread yesterday. Sign both of them to 2-way deals!

A couple days ago I noticed they had something like this already on the Grifs Homepage: http://www.griffinshockey.com/

Scott Niedermayer Has Decided To Play Again Next Year
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Frozen-Man's topic in General
TBH, I'm just surprised he let us know this early. A healthy and conditioned Niedermayer for the whole season helps the Ducks big-time. -
On the high end of $56 million! Nice!

This is such a great way to kick of the season. With the Wings not having any real rival at this point, there's nothing better than the most bitter rivals of all-time opening a season against one another. Jesus! How bad do you think the Wings defense is if the Leafs Janitor can put one by us?

Lecavalier to sign new 9-year, $77-million deal
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Systemfel's topic in General
I never said you didn't. What I said was that after two seasons from now the Wings defense will not look like what you posted, because I believe Kenny will spend the bulk of the Lidstrom $7.45 million contract on a top Dman (a Rafalski-type). See Above Agreed, but the Wings' current D depth without Lidstrom still blows TB's out of the water, and it will even when Lids retires when (not if) Kenny spends the bulk of Lidstrom's old salary on a new Dman. I'm absolutely not questioning that Vinny isn't worth the contract he just got. I'm questioning the way TB is spending their money up front. No one (including me) ever said there would be. There is no substitute for Lidstrom and I thought I made it blatantly clear in either this thread or another yesterday that when Lids retires it is going to be devastating to the Wings D. Sure they bring in a top Dman, but it won't be Lidstrom. If thats the case then the salary cap will have risen too, so your point is moot. -
I would think its due to the log-jam of Red Wings Dmen that don't have the GR return options Ericsson does. With Meech, this is his year to be around for good or be moved. Quincey is pretty much getting close to that point as well. Edit: (Kelsey) Grammar

Canadiens hand out qualifying offers to 6 players.
NeverForgetMac25 replied to stud_defenseman's topic in General
As JeeSpot stated, as long as Filppula was extended a qualifying offer he can't be lost for nothing. I'm sure he was offered some lowball amount to keep the Wings from losing him for nothing (even if it got that far--which it won't).
