I'm fairly certain that every team in the league has passed over a lot of the same players as well as their share of others. It's not just the Wings, every team passes on "Gems" every single year. I always wonder why people think they can package Sammy with someone else and get a "decent replacement" if he is so clearly inept. Please explain to me why anyone would be willing to part with a decent player for Sammy and some other guy if it is so wildly known that Sammy is useless.

Actually, if I ever say "We did it" it is partly legit. My wife has told me that she's fairly certain with how in-to the game I get that the Wings can probably hear me cheering in Detroit all the way from our living room in Green Bay, WI. It must be that X-factor that ESPN likes to talk about in pushing a team over the top. Edit: (Tori) Spelling

Malone wants players to "get their elbows and sticks up"
NeverForgetMac25 replied to tazzer82's topic in General
He won't answer to Big George. If Laraque tried to square up against Kronner I'm fairly certain Kronwall would pass and leave that up to Dmac or Downey (both of which would get beat, but are much less important to the Wings than Kronwall is). -

I completely agree with both of you. While some of them are solid, clean hits, there are a good portion of them that are questionable. -
TBH, nothing annoys me more than when "fans" rip their team apart during adversity (or apparently when they've just won the WCF's) and make comments like "We did it!" or "I knew it all along!" when the team ends up winning it all. How convenient for them.

Yeah, because that's realistic. Not directed at you Opie.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't understand why people seem to think Holmstrom hasn't "stepped up" when his linemates are leading the league in playoff scoring. If Homer wasn't doing something right, Z and Dats wouldn't be scoring as much as they are. Your point is taken in regards to him scoring, but as long as the Wings PP is clicking (which it is) I don't care who buries it on that line, just so long as it gets buried. Edit: (Kelsey) Grammar

That is really good. My only beef with it is the crazy sound effects that start 2/3 of the way into it. Other than that, a really great, simple commercial.

Dispelling some myths: the Pittsburgh Penguins

I'm late in replying to this conversation, but I'll throw in my 2 cents, and vouch for Eva. Eva absolutely has the correct lines for Detroit. There's no way in hell the Wings "second line" (Sammy-Filppula-Cleary) can match up with Pittsburgh's. They'd do a lot of damage against that line even with Kronwall and Stuart playing D. What Eva is saying is that at home Babs will get the matchups he wants, which will mean pinning Detroit's 1st line against Pittsburgh's 1st line, and then matching up our shutdown line against Pittsburgh's potent second line. The entire goal of that matchup will simply be to keep the puck out of our net, and let our 1st and 4th lines do the majority of the scoring (given that the Pit shutdown line will matchup against the Detroit 2nd line at JLA). If it becomes a battle of 1st and 4th lines (and given the Detroit defense), I love our chances in this series. I don't deny the talent of the second line of Pittsburgh but with one of the best shutdown lines in the game, arguably the best face-off man in the league at center (including a great second option if Drapes gets tossed from the dot), and the talent of Kronwall and Stuart, I feel this is a wash. I don't see it as advantage Detroit, but I certainly don't see it as Pittsburgh's major advantage the way alot of their fans do. See above -
Fixed it for you.....otherwise, spot on.

The Wings third line doesn't have "skill" guys. Its a shut down line that keys in on the oppositions top line. Guys like Draper, Drake and Maltby are simply out there to stop the other team from scoring, and once in a decent while to chip in a goal.

Roenick Re-signs with Sharks Ward Re-signs with Bruins Good move for San Jose given the post season JR had and the likely contract. Also, its always fun to keep tabs on former Red Wings. Thoughts?

Not against the Wings D, they won't. This will be a moderately scored series. Look for a lot of 3-2 games.

Dispelling some myths: the Pittsburgh Penguins

Actually, that's precisely what it means. What may be getting lost in the translation here is that right now in these playoffs Zetterberg is tied with Crosby for points (while Z holds the goals lead) and Dats is tied with Hossa and Malkin. What that means is that they are all offensively capable, but Detroit's guys defensively are among the three best in the league, and arguably the top 2. Crosby, Hossa and Malkin are not. It's no discredit to Crosby and the Hart or Hossa and Malkin, its about being the most versatile players out there, and Z and Dats are moreso than the Pens' three. -
I couldn't agree any more with this statement. I've heard this phrase before and I've never forgotten it.

I certainly don't believe in conspiracy theories about reffing being biased, but I do believe in refs that tend to make more judgment calls against a guy simply because of his reputation rather than the play at hand. I'm not saying refs aren't doing the best job they can (because I'm sure the Homer Crease/Dats Goal) was simply a matter of a judgment call, but those types of calls do happen more with certain refs. What I'm saying is that I've noticed fewer poor calls when McCreary is in charge. Then again, I'd settle for consistency in calls ahead of "good/bad" calls any day.
-
I absolutely can't believe McCreary isn't in there. You've got to be kidding me! :nonono:
