New NHL divisions, names, and playoff format

Sorry to disagree with most, but this really isn't that complicated at all. The Metropolitan Division name is dumb as hell and I don't care for the 16 teams versus 14 teams, but there's no solid way of doing it without making it 6 divisions or adding/removing 2 teams. The playoff format makes perfect sense with what they've got. I don't mind it one bit.

    Help with Datsyuk/ Perry auto

At first glance of the thread title, I thought Dats and Perry had started a car dealership together.

    Jokes, know any?

This radio station I listen to has this thing called "the 5 o'clock funnies" where in-between songs they play 1-2 minute clips from stand-up comedians. There's some pretty funny one's if you don't get offended: "My girlfriend was cleaning my apartment when she came across another woman's earring. She came tearing into the room yelling like crazy. I said...."Woah, Woah, woah....let's be adult about this. Finish cleaning my apartment and we can talk." "I stayed at my girlfriend's parent's house the other weekend and her father pulled me aside. He said, "you'll be sleeping in a separate room from my daughter because...I don't trust you." ......Trust me man, I'm f*cking your daughter. A bun in the oven is cute....but a baby in the oven is horrifying. I'm going to start my own low-carb bakery. I'm calling it, No Bun Intended. I like my women like I like my coffee....sent back for not being hot enough.

    Now Dat's funny

Dats is seriously hysterical. It brought back memories of his James Brown ringtone.

    2011 MLB Season Thread

The moment I heard the news last night, I knew it was my place to revive this thread and display my disgust. I have zero sympathy for Braun and despise him and his actions. The thing that bothers me more than juicing itself is vehemently lying about it and ruining innocent people's lives (I.E. the sample collector) along the way. Have the stones to admit it when you get caught or better yet, don't do it in the first place. F*ck you, Braun. Regards, A Brewers Fan

^ You might want to check your Cleary numbers. Looks like he got one hell of a raise.

Norris Finalists announced: Letang, Subban, Suter

Of course it is, but my point was in regards to defensive play. The calibre of guys nominated this year pale in comparison to those just 2-3 years ago.

Which things from the past (not just Wings related) do you miss most?

My beef is when its done immediately after the hit takes place. I have no problem if you ask the player that laid your guy out to "go" the next shift, but when someone jumps the player that just blasted a guy on their team (specifically when its not an illegal hit and no call is coming), it should be delay of game. You never saw this type of stuff until after the 2005 lockout. It's BS.

Which things from the past (not just Wings related) do you miss most?

I miss the fact that play doesn't continue after someone lays another player out with huge, clean hit. It pisses me off that players go after Kronwall (or any other player for that matter) after a huge hit. To me, this should be called as delay of game if it immediately follows a legal hit.

Norris Finalists announced: Letang, Subban, Suter

Exactly what I'm talking about. Seriously, what happened to this award? Why has the criteria completely changed the past 2-3 seasons? It's kind of like how the Heisman has become an offensive award in college football. Ridiculous.....and this is coming from a guy that played Center his whole career and pinched way too often for my teams' own good.

Norris Finalists announced: Letang, Subban, Suter

Jesus....didn't the Norris trophy used to have nominees that were actually incredible defensive players? This list seems so ridiculous compared to what we saw just a few years ago.

    NHL.com Bracket Challenge

I typically run the game and I was just about to make a post asking if someone else could handle it this year. I'm about to start up my own business on June 1st and I simply don't have the time my game requires this year. Hopefully, next year I'll be back up and running.

Time to blow it up and rebuild

This is what you wrote: Samuelsson. Trade him if you can. Buy him out if you can't. Quincey. Trade him if you can. Buy him out if you can't. Colaiacovo. Trade him if you can. Bu.. Bertuzzi. Trade him if you can. Bu.. Eaves. Trade him if you can. Bu.. Gustavsson. Trade him if you can. Bu.. To the avid English-speaking poster, this implies you want these players to be bought out if they can't be traded. That number is 6, not 2. The twenty year run is not over until they miss the playoffs. Blowing up the roster is simply stupid when you can subtract pieces and continue to build with the solid players you have along with the youth that's making its way up. Is this team what it once was, no...but that doesn't mean they can't be with the correct additions/subtractions. Your OP comes off like something an impulsive child would say.

Time to blow it up and rebuild

I can't even begin to think about how to respond to this post. It's simply insane. Do you realize/understand what buying out all those contracts would do to this team both in the near and long-term?

Helm: "Minor Setback", still out indefinitely, *merged*

Bert's the only one in there I don't mind. The other three are nothing more than serviceable at the right price. Bert, when healthy, is solid based on his contract. Cleary, he can move on and never return as far as I'm concerned. That being said, Brunner is likely going to command a raise. Probably not something ridiculous given the sample size is so small, but a raise nonetheless.

Helm: "Minor Setback", still out indefinitely, *merged*

I couldn't agree more, but that wasn't what I was referring to. I was solely talking about this year. Besides, plenty can happen at the deadline to make room for next year.

Helm: "Minor Setback", still out indefinitely, *merged*

The sad part is, he's really not. For the first time since the cap was instituted, the Wings have plenty of room and his $2.5M salary isn't atrocious based on the level play he executes....when he's not shelved.
  19. They also keep travel in check. That's a big one for the owners and players.
  20. I do it every year....and its as pleasant as you say it is. My wife and I were walking to our seats a couple years ago before the game started and as we moved into our row, we were greeted with "f*** You, f*** You, f*** You." Drives me nuts that I'll never be able to take my daughter there simply because I won't expose her to an environment like that.

Rumblings that 2014 Winter Classic will be Wings/Leafs

I figured this was coming sooner or later. It would've made no sense to go with 2 new teams given the circumstances of this years' debacle.

Babcock: Is he the right guy going forward?

Mike Babcock is more "right" for the job than he was when he initially got it. He's always preached hard work and grinding it out. With that style of play and the success it gave him, it allowed him to ascend the ranks of coaching as quickly as he did. This current Red Wings team is less talented and far more gritty than it's been in over 15 years. Babs' style is a perfect fit.

    2012 NFL Thread

Packers signed Cedric Benson yesterday and all of a sudden we have a solid running attack to compliment the already top offense in the league. I know this is a Lion-friendly site, but with this addition and if the defense can even somewhat recapture its form from 2010, they should win the Super Bowl again. I'm quite curious to see how the Lions follow up their solid season. They've made some incredible strides since giving Millen the boot and now it'll be interesting to see if they can keep the ship heading in the right direction. The Bears really surprised me last year with the season they had going before Cutler got hurt. They've added a few key additions and if their defense doesn't show their age, then they'll be a tough team as well. The Vikings, well....they're the laughing stock of the NFC North. Not much else to say about them. Even with them, the NFC North has got to be the best division in the NFL. Thoughts? Predictions?

    Zetterberg's Great But...

JohnZ.....do you realize how much you're splitting hairs here? It's not as if Dats is getting 14 a night while Z rocks a solid 24+. You're questioning a matter of seconds here. The reason the TOI differential seems minuscule is because its irrelevant. Babs has 100% faith in sticking either of these two guys out there at any time. He doesn't favor Z, however PK time has proven to be an area he excels at....hence the likely tiny differential.

    Zetterberg's Great But...

Should I pull the 4-5 identical threads regarding this topic we've had over the course of the past 5 years? What a waste indeed. Talk about nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking.
