Gotta love a night with two game 7's (so long as its not the Wings)! Caps fans must not be in to foreplay.....they do their chants real quick and then they're quiet.

Actual dates have not been released yet. From what I've heard, the Wings are likely to open up the second round on Thursday, but nothing will be announced until the last game is finished tonight, and more likely tomorrow morning.

Probably as different as it would've been if Kopecky or Maltby had been in the lineup.

4-6 months isn't too bad for a torn ACL. With any luck he'll be back playing before the regular season starts.

That's a good point, and thats one of the major reasons I don't want to play them. That, on top with their extra motivation because of the Wings eliminating them last year does worry me a little bit, but that same reason obviously applies to SJ given they win tonight and the next round, and the Wings are fortunate enough to make it the WCF's. Sidenote: I think this is the first times I've had a debate with the same poster going on at the same time in two completely different threads.

No he's not. Which team has more playoff series victories? Which team has more Stanley Cup Finals appearances? Most importantly, which one of those teams got it done and won the cup? Who said anything about any of the other GM's? I certainly didn't. Of course there are a great deal of GM's that do a wonderful job, and I'd take Holland any day over Burke, but I'm not going to discredit a guy that has assembled some great playoff teams and has had a great deal of success in those playoffs. Next year will absolutely be interesting especially with the Niedermayer drama, not to mention Selanne. Depending on what those guys do and what type of money they have to work with will certainly make for an interesting 08/09 season in Anaheim.

Personally, I'd like to see Washington move on, and I'm still indifferent about the SJ/CAL series. I wouldn't mind either and I don't want either at the same time. I guess I'd rather see SJ simply because the hockey world deserves another Wings/Avalanche series.

We might not get that chance. That being said, he may get too much credit but he does deserve a lot of it. His Ducks team (barring this year) always seems to do well in the playoffs. It's interesting how you give credit to the Flames for their post season success yet you knock the Ducks. Doesn't make much sense given that Anaheim has had even more success in the playoffs over the past 5 years than Calgary has. I can't stand Burke either, but it seems like your hatred for him is overshadowing your judgment.

There are also plenty of other stats that suggest Lidstrom is the better candidate, such as PIM. Granted Dion's numbers are exaggerated due to fighting minutes, but I take minor penalty minutes as one of the many criteria it takes to win the Norris. For example, how often do you put your team shorthanded because of a mistake or in a crucial time of a game. Regardless of fighting, Dion has taken many more minor penalties this season than Lidstrom. Another major factor in determining who is the Norris Trophy winner IMO is "level of play". They may not have a quantitative number for this but it is major factor in determining the winner, and hence why Lidstrom has won as many as he has the past 6 seasons. Having said all this, I don't think Dion has as long a way to go to become an elite defenseman as you do. I think he's already up there. I sure wouldn't mind him on my team.

I hear you.....and its not as though Dion is missing much. As you said, if he can work on his consistency and the mental aspect of the game a little more he's gonna win multiple Norris' over the course of his career. TBH, I'll be supremely disappointed if he doesn't because he has all the tools.

I still don't know how anyone can even pay attention to what he's saying when he's on the air. I'm so d*mn focused on those suits that anything that comes out of his mouth just breezes right by me. Some of the stuff he says is spot in, but that number seems to be decreasing with each waking day. Personally, I think he's gotten worse and worse over the past few years and now I don't think he brings much of anything in regards to constructive thought to the table. Rather, now he just comes off as a "nationalist".

I can respect your comment about Phaneuf's goal total as opposed to Lidstrom, but similarly Lidstrom destroyed Phaneuf (and Chara combined for that matter ) in the +/- category. As for the division comment, you should've taken notice what the Wings did against the Flames' more "dominant" division. That will tell you plenty.

Take it easy Os, no one was attacking you. I'm not going to say Z has had a stellar 1st round because he certainly hasn't, but he hasn't been a non-threat either. To me, it seems like he's having some trouble finishing right now. I don't think he's necessarily getting knocked off the puck to easily, I just think he's trying too hard with it. What I mean by that is he's holding on to the puck probably longer than he should rather than looking for the open man. I'm not really sure why he's doing that since in the past he usually always has an eye out for the open man, but that's something that we'll never know. BTW, last year Z had 6 goals and 8 assists in the playoffs and finished third in scoring only behind Lids and Dats. How is that "playing similar to last season" when you use it in a negative context? Don't insinuate that I don't notice that Z isn't playing like himself, becuase I certainly have. Whether you like to think so or not, there are fans on this board that have an objective view of all the Red Wings, including their own personal favorites. I like to think I'm one of them.
