While I tend to agree, Z's assist column has become scary-good (especially this year) and just look at how the numbers continue to rise every season. Now, if he gets on a line with someone that can distribute the puck his goal scoring will return and he'll be up there with anyone in the world points-wise. For the second time in this thread, show me proof. While Pavel is one of the best defenders in the world, he's won those Selke's over Z because the committee seems to put a premium on takeaways. Z consistently gets the tougher defensive assignments from Babs. Haha! Really? Are seriously using this in your argument? So what you're saying is that Z is more effective in the playoffs which is the first priority in Detroit. Gotcha! Sidenote: You can't remove stats from part of his playoff career to make a case for someone. You don't see me removing certain stats from Z that were less than Pavs'. Lastly, see my arguments above. I'm not about to repeat the areas Z excels in for sake of bandwidth.

I certainly hope that wasn't something new the Wings brass found out last night. If so, then a lot of our coaches/coordinators aren't doing their jobs.

Datsyuk is a better back checker: No he's not better deker: Agreed has a better wrist shot: Debatable one of the best passers ive ever seen: Becoming more debatable given Z's showings these past couple years He is a faster skater: Show me proof. he carries the puck in the neutral zone better: Agreed My Turn: Z is given the tougher assignments and is a better all-around defender. Z is a better back-checker. Z's off-ice commitment has been noted as one of best in the league. Z has a better slap-shot and backhander. All that being said, I do feel Dats is the biggest *all-around* talent in the league (more-so than Z). What I mean by that is he's close to Z in some categories (although still slightly behind) but the areas he excels in tend to be leaps and bounds above most any player in the world.

Why? Because you said so? Logic an lack of emotion actually makes for quite an evenly-matched debate. In what facet of the game? Datsyuk is superior to Z in certain areas. Zetterberg is superior to Dats in certain areas.

Sharks Extend Niemi: 4 years/$15.2 Million

You're doing it wrong. -
I don't think it does. It shows that the Wings are smart enough to know that the playoffs are right around the corner and grinding out a sure win in order to keep a 7-1 score in tact isn't as important as staying fresh. TBH, I just don't think teams see this as the Wings being vulnerable. Every professional on every team at the NHL level knows why those goals were scored and it wasn't because the Wings are vulnerable.

So much for following the Red Wings model. -
While I hear what you're saying edi, I really don't think its that big of a deal simply because of the fact that it was 7-1 at the time. If the Wings were winning 4-1 or even as low as 3-1, we would've seen a much more engaged defensive effort toward the end. Unfortunately, with how poor our team-defense and goaltending (at times) have been this year, we tend to get more frustrated about these types of endings than other teams do.

I found it hilarious that Stoll was going apes*** in the box after he saw the replay of himself clearly high-sticking Filppula in the face. Seriously Stoll, WTF were you looking at that made you think you weren't as guilty as they come. Now, the Greene high-sticking call I'll agree. That was BS, but atleast justice was served and we didn't score on it.

Believe it or not, the only goal Z was on the ice for last night was the PPG to close out the 1st period. Coupled with the 3rd goal by the Kings, which was even strength and you get a -1.

Not only that, I think GM's are making a stand. They're no longer going to be making overpriced trade after overpriced trade. This could set things up for a more active Deadline day next year since all GM's may now realize they don't have teams by their balls (unless they happen to be the LA Kings ). -
