I just can't get over the fact that Grittzkey used "He speaks fluid English" as a reason why Maltby is the man.

For the salary Lilja draws and the role he's *supposed* to play on the team (5-6 Dman, PK'er, Shot Blocker), he's a great fit. I don't mind re-signing Lilja at all for his current contract ($1 million) or little less.

The nice thing about the five year term is it should make the cap hit more reasonable. No complaint from me.

None taken.....and while I agree with you in regards to the annoyance of the naysayers, I feel the "McCarty will be our savior" comments can be just as annoying. Mac is definitely going to bring something to the table, but I worry that some people here will expect too much and unjustly trash him if he doesn't live up to their exaggerated expectations. What the hell? When did I become a naysayer when it comes to Mac? First and foremost I'm a realist, and a bigger Mac fan than anyone on this board. I absolutely think he has something left in the tank and think he'll be a solid 4th liner for the Wings hopefully in the not so distant future. Please tell me once where I said he won't make it out of the IHL or the AHL. Maybe you're referring to some other posters, but it sure seems like you're coming at me. If that's the case, you need to check my post history, because never once did I say Mac couldn't or wouldn't do it. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't be surprised if he was a healthy scratch the first few games just to get comfortable with the NHL speed.

That was the only silver lining to the game on Friday. I picked both Wings games correctly this weekend as well.

I'd take Lilja over Lebda any day of the week. Lilja is a phenomenal shot blocker on the PK and is defensively responsible. He makes mistakes, but Lebda makes more.

As for Wednesday, given that Cheli isn't ready yet, I assume the pairings will look like such: Rafalski-Lilja Kronwall-Stuart Lebda-Meech

I just don't see it. Babs likes Lids with Raf and stated he's going to play Kronwall with Stuart. When you put that on paper, its looks really strong. Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Chelios-Lilja Lebda

Exactly. People really need to realize that just because he's on the roster, it doesn't mean he'll be on the game roster.
