Did you ever think it might have more to do with defense rather than offense?
-
Ericsson has looked solid tonight. Missed calls left and right thus far.
-
First off, when did I specifically say I only wanted to spend a prospect/pick on a defensemen? Secondly, Detroit needs depth at D just as much as they need a forward. Last years playoffs were a prime example of that. The bottom line is that the Wings need both a top-6 forward and a depth Dman in order to make a solid run at the Cup.

I don't like the way Anaheim handled their situation this year either, but they did nothing illegal.

Flip for a rental player! No way! Hossa won't be a rental! Numbers, Future Salary Cap. Facebook. There's your 41 pages.
-
e4? That equates to a 5% chance of it actually coming to fruition.
-
The story of Kaminski alone is beyond frightening, and I don't understand how Campbell can make the comments he did. Beyond disappointing. :nonono:
-
Chris or Josh?
-
Yeah, but not all of them were gibberish. That being said, 38 pages sounds like a better number.
-
I feel sorry for those that have read 20+ pages of gibberish that could've been summed up in a page.
-
I don't think so. If this year is anything like last year, the majority of the deals didn't happen until the weekend before the deadline. Give it two days and things will start to happen quickly.
-
I agree that Cleary will take a hometown discount, but do you actually have a link confirming that comment coming out of Cleary's mouth? I can't imagine he'd come out and say something like that with negotiations in the works or about to begin.
-
I would think some form of negotiation is already in process, we just haven't heard anything real about it yet. BTW, he won't be moved before the deadline. He'll be on the Wings for atleast the remainder of the season and IMO will sign for 3-4 years with Detroit. He was on his last chance when Holland brought him in. He flourished and will want to stay in the only place thats happened. Also, he'll probably take a hometown discount to make it happen.
-
Well, I'm pretty sure we can afford Cleary seeing as that he's under contract for the remainder of the season. Fedorov would be a good addition whether Hossa comes or not. Personally, I'd like to see the Wings go after Hossa (while giving up Filppula, a prospect and a pick), Fedorov for a pick and a prospect and then a big 5-6 depth Dman. I think that would cover this team completely, but it might be a little too much to give away in terms of players/prospects/picks.
-
I didn't realize how much its fluctuated the past 25+ years. The 97/98 season saw a deadline on March 28th.....that's crazy considering how many people *should* be moved at that point of the season. ** Obviously I didn't included the 94/95 season date (April 5) due to the lockout and the schedule change that season. **

I think my point went over your head. I was referring to people like me who aren't able to get NHL Network because its not offered in our area yet. The salt was meant for you to pour in my open wound, not yours.

An interesting chart I just came across on TSN. With the parody in the league (especially this year) I just don't see as many deals going through as the past few years.
-
And TBH, who wouldn't? That being said, having the needed amount depth though ensures the Wings will continue to place where they do in the standings. If they start moving too many guys like Filppula and Hudler at the same time for a lights-out sniper sooner or later you'll end up with a team like Tampa Bay. Here's the thing, I'm all for Hossa (and for the term you mentioned), but I also want to be smart about it. I know Kenny is beyond capable of knowing how much is too much and if Atlanta asked for the deal you mentioned, I don't think Kenny will pull the trigger. It's too much depth to give up when you also consider the first rounder (which you didn't mention when you were talking about Flip and Huds in the future). I want Hossa as bad as anyone......you can tell that by my posts within this very thread, but (being a salesman) I want him as cheap as possibly, and its not unreasonable to think he couldn't be had for Filppula, a prospect and a pick given his status in Atlanta.
-
How long of a term are you talking? While I agree adding Hossa long term for the aforementioned deal looks good, you can't give up too many pieces of your puzzle. A 50 point guy (Hudler should end up around that number), a first rounder and a solid 2nd liner with potential to be a 55-70 point per year guy (plus is defensively responsible and an RFA) is a lot to give up for a single player even with being locked up long term.
-
I don't see anything yet, but I'm sure they will. Otherwise one of TSN.ca/NHL or sportsnet.ca will more than likely stream their broadcast that day.
-
Here's some salt....do you want me to find an open wound for you?
-
Exactly. If Time Warner offered the NHL Network in my area I would absolutely take the day off of work. Instead I'll just have to keep the ticker up on my computer.
-
Correct, but Hudler and a second might be a little too much as well. I would think a prospect and a pick (along with Filppula) should be enough given Hossa status in Atlanta.
-
So would I, and I'm not suggesting that he should go for a rental. However, (whether you find it to be feasible or not) for a re-signed Hossa I wouldn't even think twice about it.
