I won't touch it. Even though I don't play in the NHL I still hold the utmost respect for the trophy and in my mind since I'll never win it, I won't touch it.

After the financial terms were disclosed, I remove my objection. $600,000 for Selanne is ridiculous but he'll certainly play 10 games, thus causing his salary (and cap-hit) to be $1.95 million. While it sucks for Wings fans, I really don't have any valid objections. That being said, atleast Kenny has a clear picture of what he needs to take care of in the next month.

I'll be at the USHL All-Star game tonight, so I'll scout the talent for the Wings. The game takes place at the Resch Center in Green Bay, WI. Sidenote: The Stanley Cup arrived there yesterday and will be there until the conclusion of the game. I've never seen it in real life so I'm really pumped.

Do you honestly believe the father was doing any of this for his son rather than himself?
-
Honestly, I don't care if he comes back at all. We all want a tougher Detroit team, but IMO guys like Drake aren't the answer.

The only beef I have with what Teemu did (and I have none for him coming back) is the light salary he came back for. Last season his base salary was $3.75 million which is what he should be making. Prorate that number based on the amount of days left in this season and its something like $1.374 million which I feel the Ducks should be on the hook for (cap-wise). I have no problem with Teemu coming back to the Ducks, but the joke of a salary he took was purely strategic by both him and Burke. IMO, the league could fix this "problem" by requiring players to take the equivelant of the previous season salary or greater.

Negotiations aren't allowed to *start* unitl the 1st day of next years regular season. At 12:01 AM (that day) Kenny will have a contract waiting for him to sign. Edited for correction
-
Of course he did. :nonono:

Foresberg signing with the Wings (while similar) is still different due to the Ducks cap situation. Had Niedermayer or Teemu played this entire season they wouldn't have been able to get everyone under the cap.
-
BTW, no financial terms were disclosed yet, were they?
-
If Teemu honestly wasn't sure if he wanted to come back until now then thats one thing. If Burke told him to take his sweet time, which I wouldn't be surprised one bit to hear, than that's another. Either way, if the league doesn't put some form of a rule in place for things like this you're going to see it more and more. Also, I would agree with you on the Lidstrom example given the circumstances fell within what I just stated. Lastly, I agree that a team should be on the hook for the entire cap hit regardless of when a contracted player who's debating retirement comes back. That just keeps things fair for everyone.

all around. Now the key is for Z to stay healthy.

Probably not, but in a sense this is kind of apples to oranges. In one case, you've got a guy trying to make a comeback and who will be nothing more than a fourth-liner at best on a contender and will literally make the minimum salary (which will also be prorated). By the time its said and done if Mac did hook up with a team before the end of the season he's likely only to make in the ballpark of $150,000. Even if he did sign with the Wings his contract would eat up practically none of the roughly $5 million they have yet to spend this season. In the other case, you've got a top-end offensive player that would be an enormous addition to any team in the playoffs and be a first-liner on practically every one of those teams. His salary "should" be in the $6 million (for a full season) ballpark, and what people are upset about is that now the Ducks can add a guy like Selanne for a hell of a lot less than his market value and stay under the cap. While Selanne wasn't contracted to any team, Neidermayer was in a similar boat. Now, they can both come back to their team mid-season for a cap total of less than what one of them should be making. In a sense they found a way to beat the system. That being said, you have to give props to the Ducks' brass for finding this loophole, and I would be willing to bet if the Wings were the ones doing this that not too many people would be upset about it. The thing is, I can see a point for both sides. Sidenote: Forgive me for the thorough explanation HS, as it wasn't directed toward you. I know you already know the points I just touched upon, but I just wanted to throw them in there for those that may not know them.

Oh yeah......and on the finals too, but we all knew you'd win that one after beating Federer.
-
TBH, I knew Djokovic had a chance against Federer, but the utter dismantling of Roger was unbelievable. Straight sets over a guy that's been ranked number 1 for the last 207 straight weeks, not to mention the multiple-time defending champion of 3 of the 4 majors. Congrats Novak.

I remember reading the initial story and just how heart-warming it was. Was a sickening ending. Edit: (Kelsey) Grammar

Unless Nabokov didn't face a single shot, how could Ozzie end up with a better save % than a goaltender that allowed no goals? FYI Osgood: 0.688 SV% Nabokov: 1.000 SV% Legace: 0.667%

Agreed (both comments).

Wow........Bettman gets announced and promptly gets booed.
-
Ack....East wins 8-7.
-
SOB......Savard breaks the tie with 20.9 seconds left.
-
Gorgeous give-and-go from Staal to Kovy back to Staal, and Legace had zero chance. 7-7

Sidenote: Obviously the physical play gets checked at the door for the All-Star game, but wouldn't it be hilarious if Datsyuk laid a bone-crushing hit on Chara?
