The sad part is you're actually right.

If nothing else, atleast AO will be protected for a couple more years. Seriously......time to turn that team around. It's well beyond ridiculous.
-
First or Worst in the NHL, 7 points against any NHL team is nothing to shun. That's beyond impressive regardless of Tampa's record.
-
Only 7........lazy bastard!

Agreed If Laraque had actually *hit* him it would have a been 100 times worse. It was a little shove at best and then Downie earned a Grammy for his acting.

We all knew this was coming sooner than later. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've got the Anaheim cap number at $2.083 million remaining. I would think Selanne would command most of that, thus making a real deadline acquisition impossible. Granted, you could look at it as though Neidermayer and Selanne are their deadline acquisitions, but barring injury they better stay healthy in the playoffs or they could end up facing the same thing the Wings did last year.

QFT There isn't too many 19 goal scorers (in 51 games) making $675,000. It's going to be an interesting renegotiation to say the least. Given Cleary's failures in Chicago, Edmonton and Phoenix and the fact that he's only thrived in Detroit, who knows what his contract will end up looking like.

Because cap room isn't the issue. The Wings have plenty of it. The issue here is that you could add an elite player that will cost the Wings absolutely no picks, prospects or current roster players. I highly doubt Kenny would stand pat even if he added Forsberg, but keep in mind its going to cost plenty to add a solid Dman or another soon-to-be UFA in the form of picks/prospects/roster players. I don't think the Wings can realistically add two big-game (soon-to-be) UFA's without jeopardizing the future in a sizable way.

QFT The Wings by no means dominated the game as a whole. When you add *all* the factors together it was a very close game and as GS&T said, these are two teams with completely different styles but just enough of a mix to make the games very close. This is how its going to be in the playoffs if these teams meet up again, and the Wings (and Kenny) need to be prepared for it. In other words, that big nasty defenseman we've been discussing is becoming a major need against a sizable team like Anaheim that cycled at will down low in our offensive zone. It's becoming more and more clear how important it is to have that big cannon at the point for the PP. While Pronger is a ****** (and he is), he has one hell of a shot, and continues to score timely goals from the line. Those are huge goals in the playoffs because they're a hell of a lot more common with how tight defensively those games can be. I'm glad the Wings play them before (Feb. 10) the trade deadline because it will give Kenny even more perspective on what pieces need to be added to the puzzle in order to help lengthen the post-season run.

With Melrose's past, how can this surprise anyone. Just take it with a grain of salt. After all, the Wings are the ones who skated away with two points.

This isn't worth starting a new thread over but St. Louis just got screwed in the SO. After all three shooters being stopped, Henrik Sedin brought the puck backwards on his shot (which isn't allowed) and then scored. Luongo then stopped the next shot for the "win". Tough break for the Blues, and no one even noticed it.

Right about the same time we started struggling against Chicago. I don't get it either. That being said, I'd rather dominate the San Jose's, Anaheim's and Dallas' of the Western Conference than the Chicago's.

You might as well catch the end of the Vancouver/St. Louis game........that's what I'm doing atleast. There's only a minute left in OT.

Game Over! Final: 2-1 Red Wings Goals: Rafalski (1st Period), Filppula (2nd Period), Pronger (3rd Period)
-
Since when is a well covered two-on-two considered, "off to the races"? Silly Announcers, alcohol is for adults.
-
Great play by Kronner to get his stick on Bert's shot!
-
Our defensive zone passing has been beyond scary the last 10 minutes. That's the type of crap that leads to game-tying goals.
-
All of a sudden the Wings with a ton of offensive zone pressure. Great play by Drapes to get the shot off while falling down.
-
It'd be a good time to clear the puck!
-
Blah Pronger scores.
-
Pronger uses the longest stick allowed in the NHL............kind of like the gap between his front teeth.
-
Is it just me or have the Wings been uber-patient with their shots tonight. When they find an opening, they seem to be taking their time and making their shots count. That being said, with that much time the Ducks seem to be knocked off their rocker.
-
Nice, Wings PP Rob off for Hooking
-
BTW, Dom's been great tonight. Not much work in the second, but made the tough saves when challanged (which is even harder when you're not busy).

End of 1 1-0 Wings Goal: Rafalski (Lidstrom, Datsyuk)
