    1/23 GDT: Red Wings 2, Anaheim 1

SOB, I completely forgot the game was at 9:00 rather than 9:30. I just got back from playing hockey, and atleast I walked into a 1-0 Red Wings lead. How do we look so far?

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Sorry FRW, but just because you like the fact that the Wings have a Finnish player it doesn't mean they shouldn't entertain the thought of moving him for a guy like Hossa.

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Obviously if Kenny could get away with just moving Hudler plus the others you mentioned, I'd be all for it. You're dead on in saying we have a great deal of young Dmen, but I just don't see that deal going through. With the deals that were made last year, I think you're going to need to up the anti and maybe swap Fil with Hudler in your proposal at least.

"In my endzone I want you to be." Someone has way too much time on their hands (not to mention a few issues), but that is some funny sh*t!

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

I haven't really stated what I want yet (rather I've just commented on others' wish lists) so I'll throw in mine. Personally, I'd be fine adding a nasty 5-6 depth Dman. I think they have a solid core, and having a seventh Dman that could step in at any time should be suffice. That being said, if the right top 4 Dman came at the right price I would strongly look at it. I'd like to take a chance on Foresberg if possible. I love that aside from money the Wings lose nothing by bringing him in. If he can even get up to 2/3 speed, he'll be a monster in the playoffs. BTW, I don't see him coming here but it sure would help. Lastly, Hossa intrigues the hell out of me. Obviously, Atlanta is going to have to have a tough stretch in February to be knocked low enough where they'd be sellers, and I would never advocate bringing him unless a deal was in place to bring him in for multiple years. That being said, I am extremely interested in this guy given the right deal and players are in place. The problem with this is there'd be so much to discuss in terms of Red Wings players/picks that would be involved in the deal, and I would think a core Wings defenseman would have to be part of the deal. Let just say in crazy world that a Dman wasn't part of the deal. Imagine this lineup (assuming it would take Hudler and Filppula & atleast a pick to bring in Hossa): Z-Dats-Homer Hossa-Foresberg-Cleary Draper-Maltby-Franzen Kopecky-Samuelsson-Drake/Downey Lids-Rafalski Kronwall-Lilja Chelios-Lebda/Big Nasty Deadline Dman

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

You're comparing apples to oranges here. With the salary cap in place the league is in a completely different situation than it was in 2002. Don't get me wrong, as I completely understand your reasoning.....but now I'm starting to question how you feel Holland made the right choice the past two deadlines with given that the Wings had total opposite deadline acquisitions. Two years ago it was Cross for practically nothing, and last year it was Calder and Bertuzzi for nothing close to the farm. Now you're talking about selling the farm if need be to get the team over the hump and its not at all what Holland did these past two seasons. TBH, I feel Holland more than earned his stripes last season. and if he can find a way to duplicate what he did last deadline plus a little more (while in return giving a little more) I think we'll be in great shape.

Their last game was Sunday. Even so, that's not the point of my post.

Them, and every other f*ckin' team in the NHL. Sorry, but it still pisses me off that the Wings have 15 B2B's this season. IMO every team should play within 1-2 B2B's of each other to keep things even. That certainly isn't the case this year.

Fixed it for you. I knew that didn't seem right when I saw that number.

    How about Forsberg?

Ok, then I find that reasoning to be pointless. You wouldn't sign a guy that clearly increases the Wings chances of winning the cup simply because you can't stand the sight of him. That's pretty stupid if you ask me. Sidenote: If that were the case, Ricci would've never gotten a job in the NHL.

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Fair enough, but I still don't like the idea of moving Kronwall. If you don't remember what happened last year, it was essentially a depleted defense in the end that cost the Wings the cup. Hell, last year they had the team in place, and probably would've had enough to put them over the top given that Kronwall and Schneider had been healthy the rest of the way (or even the final 3 games of the ANA series). Now you're talking about giving this Wings team every opportunity they can to win the prize when it looks already like they have the foundation in place to win it all this year. I can understand that, but how are you going to feel if the Wings are one of those other 15 teams that make the postseason and don't win it all? My point is that it may not take a couple rentals and a FA such as Foresberg to win it all. The fact of the matter is that it may take a Foresberg and a core D-man to put this team over the top (which won't cost the farm and would still give the Wings a solid chance to win it all). My thought is instead of selling the farm why aren't the Wings more looking at adding a guy like Foresberg? If healthy, this guy could absolutely put the Wings over the top with secondary scoring, and will cost them nothing in return. If you want a guy like Sundin, then I'm ok dumping a 1st rounder and a decent offensive player in order to bring him in, but to overpay on not only 1 guy, but 2 is going to cost the team dearly in the future. You say you're ok with some bad seasons if Kenny pulled the trigger to win it all now, but that's easy to say when the Wings have been as good as they have for the last 16 years. Move too many guys, and you might be singing a different tune 3-4 years from now.

Could Yzerman be the next Leaf's GM?

Thats if Holland even wants to leave for the Leafs.

    2007 Green Bay Packers Thread

I'll assume you're referring to the Saints here, so I'll address that. The big difference here though is the age of this years Packers compared to last years Saints. While the Saints weren't old, they weren't that young either (if I recall correctly). The Packers won't move too many players because there's no need to given the teams age. What they'll probably do is add a couple players and try to lock up as many RFA's as they can long term.

Could Yzerman be the next Leaf's GM?

I don't think Yzerman wants that responsibility just yet. It sounds like he's enjoying learning the business and sitting in the shadows while throwing in his 2 cents for the time being. Besides, its not his personality to be impatient.........especially for a position with the Leafs.

    2008 Australian Open

I agree with the majority of your predictions, but I'll throw in my 2 cents. Jankovic isn't 100% and she hasn't been that good either. She's really barely gotten by in a few matches already, and that won't do against Sharapova. Djokovic is playing great and he truly has the weapons and ability to beat Federer. That being said, seeing Djokovic grabbing his chest last night (or Austrailia's afternoon for those not in North America) was a cause for concern. If its nothing more than just a fluke and doesn't carry over to the next match, things should be real interesting. Speaking of which, any news on what was ailing his chest?

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

If you're concerned about the Wings having room to sign quality players than you should absolutely not want Kronwall moved. If this level of play keeps up, he's a steal for the money he's getting. It's the players that have the big contracts that aren't pulling their weight that need to be moved, not a guy that's pretty much getting to the point where he's underpaid already, and will be even moreso at the end of next season.

Come on calfan......you go on a major hiatus from the site and then post something like this. You know Yzerman isn't going anywhere.

    No Hankering for Zetterberg?

On top of that, it doesn't sound like he cares. Much like Yzerman, he seems content to blend in and hide.

Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Well, that's as unrealistic as Kronwall for Sundin. No way would I take Sundin for Kronwall even straight up with the level of Play Kronner has played of late, just like there's no way the Leafs would take Lilja for Sundin. Keep in mind, Kronwall's contract will be a steal the next few years if this current level of play continues. Edit: Addition

But its ok for a guy like Yzerman....right? The point is, you wouldn't be saying it if a guy like Favre was on the Lions.
