Stupid last minute goals. :nonono: Always a killer.

I picked NE and GB, with NE wining the Superbowl! I don't like it, but that's the honest response. Go Pack Go!

As did I. See bolded comments. That's the thing, I'm not nitpicking. That's why I said the following: When it comes to skill players, I totally understand the need to protect yourself. When its the TooToo's and Laraque's Brashear's of the league, not so much. However, when its someone like Iginla, it makes more sense. Again, I gave my due props and said it was great that he stood up for himself. I was just referring to the *quality* (which I suppose is to be expected) of the fight. Never once have I done that.
-
True, but if you want to play that card than Crosby's gloves didn't come off until he flung Ferrence's helmet off, all while he kept his lid on. I'm not saying it wasn't cool to see him stand up for himself, it just wasn't that great of a bout and if this was anyone other than Crosby no one would care about this fight. In fact, they'd probably be ripping anyone else in the league had they left their lid (w/ visor) and gloves on during a bout.
-
I know. Eventually was the key word there though. It looked like a little more than half way through after throwing some "shots" at Ferrence that they started to come loose and just flung off. All the while with his helmet and visor on. That was the point of my comment.

First and foremost, until you can provide me some verifiable link that quotes Babs saying Dom will be the starter come playoff time, I won't believe you. I'm not attacking you because of Bab's choice of who starts, because I think its great that Babs is giving Dom ample opportunity to get his game up to the level that we're all accustomed to. However, just because Dom is the Dominator doesn't mean that a guy who is 15-2-1 with the best GAA in the league should be ignored either. I like the idea of splitting starts, but if the playoffs were to start right now, I would feel more comfortable with Ozzie in net. The *objective* Red Wings fans would say the same. That being said, there is plenty of hockey left this regular season, and if Dom can continue to improve I would feel more than comfortable with him in net. Personally, I just want the guy who's playing the *best* in the beginning of April to lead this team, because it gives the Red Wings the best chance to win it all. That's all I'm concerned about.....not Ozzie nor Dom, but the Red Wings.

Take a look at his fists, and you tell me.

I miss talking about him smoking in between periods.

This is my third year with NHL Center Ice and up until this season, I've experienced absolutely zero problems with the servcie. This year however, I'm ready to \burn both the CI On Demand company as well as Time Warner to the ground. So far this *young* season I've lost the feed on 3 seperate occasions for days on end, and I've had enough of it. Initially about 3 weeks into the season all my channels kept showing a blue screen that said "Initializing, Please Wait" but it never would. It just stayed on that screen as long as the channel was on. You could tell something wasn't right because when I went to the Digital Guide it just showed 2-hour time blocks that were titled "NHL Center Ice" rather than listing the game that was being played on that particular channel. Then the NHL network started pulling games from CI and I called Time Warner to inquire about it. They said it wasn't part of their sports teirs yet, but were hoping it would be by the new year. As a result, they offered me free hardware for a year (which is a total discount of $96.00). About 2 weeks later, all of a sudden the screen would play for a minute or two and than freeze up until I changed the channel. Then I would flip back and it would be hit or miss for it to restart, but each time it did restart within a minute it would freeze up again. I called Time Warner and they said that they were experiencing difficulties with NHL Center Ice and the NBA package. They then gave me another $25.00 discount. Over the last week the initial scenario I posted has happened again, and I missed Saturday's game as a result. Needless to say, I got Monday's game due to it being on Versus, but I spent 50 minutes on the phone with Time Warner last night only for them to say they don't know whats wrong. They are sending a repair person tonight to hopefully get this fixed for good. As a result, I'm going to end up only paying $29 for Center Ice for the entire season due to all the problems, but like I've told the employees at Time Warner, I'd rather pay $150.00 and see every game, then miss a handful of games and only pay $29.00. I gladly pay $150.00 a season with the understanding that I get to watch *all* of my Red Wings games plus a good chunk of the other games I want to see. I don't want their discount, I want my games. Has anyone else had any problems similar to mine this season with CI? Please share your story, and what you've done to resolve it.

My CI is still F'ed up. Anyone have an online link to the game? I don't want to be stuck with NHL Radio.

Those people are blind. Those are the type of people that can't be subjective and aren't even worth debating with because it all falls upon deaf ears. If anyone can't see the pros and cons of both Dom and Ozzie then their opinions are very skewed.
-
Was is the key word. If you want to play the "was" game than how about this......Dom won his cup when he was on a team that was more stacked than Ozzie's Cup year. Again, I'm not interested in the past. I don't care what either goalie has done. I'm interested in what they are doing for the Wings this season, and this season Ozzie is 15-1-1 and at the top of the league in most tending categories. Agreed. I wasn't stating anything to the contrary. You just have throw that in there, don't you? You're obviously not 100% confident with Ozzie in net based on the comments you've made in this thread. If you were, you'd have tweaked your last sentence to say, "If playoffs started tomorrow, Dom would be in net. But if he gets injured, I'm 100% comfortable with Ozzy getting the job done."
-
Game. Set. Match. That's the thing though, right *now* we have a clear cut goalie that is playing like a number one and another that is just starting to become average so far this season. The numbers prove that.
-
Last I checked the score for Stanley Cups between Ozzie and Dom was 1-1.
-
Foote would be great and for those that want Fedorov back, both could be had for a mere $2,505,184.10 not even including if a player from our current roster was moved. This isn't directed at you ARice, but the key here would be what we'd have to give up in personnel to get a player like Foote and a Fedorov or a Ryder, which would be plenty.

You'd think he was drunk with the hilarious comments he was making but that was just vintage Ovechkin. Comedy Gold, indeed.

I never said he was up for an inflated salary. What I did say is a paycut of $1.1 million a year, while the cap continues to rise, while still being the best in the game at his position isn't fair. A fair number would be around $7+ million, but it seems like now you're changing your number. Initially you said that you'd be disappointed if Lids signed for ANYTHING more than $6.5 million. Now you're saying AT $7 million or less, which I could somewhat get on board with if the number was $7. BTW, I do understand and am in no way forgetting what the franchise has done for Nick, and I completely agree with you that its a mutual situation, but I don't feel $6.5 over the next 2-3 years IS fair. Maybe a front loaded 3 year contract for $7.5, $7.0 and $6.5 respectively would be a more "fair" contract. However, lets say that 20% of the cap next year will be near $11.00 million (Cap total = $55 million). That will mean that in three years time he went from practically maxing out the single player salary making 20% of the cap to 12.7% percent. Of course its a mutual situation, but that's starting to be a pretty decent gap compared to what his "value" was just 2.5 seasons ago. That being said, I know what you're getting at here YG. I'm just as concerned as you are in regards to the contract negotiations with Z coming this offseason. Obviously he's in line for a monster raise (one that will even exceed Dats' salary), plus you've got the young talent to think about for long term security of the team. I'm just as concerned about that as you, but I think the aforementioned pay structure I mentioned for Lids will be just fine in regards to keeping the team competitive for years to come. Edit: Spelling

I do agree with this actually, but whether you're paid $500,000 or $5 million per season, you still need to use the fundamentals of high versus low percentage shots to give your team the best opportunity to score. Regardless of his pay, there's absolutely no excuse for a player at the NHL level to not know this. Hell, this was engraved in me in PeeWee. This has nothing to do with being streaky (which I know he is) or level of player he is. Edit: (Kelsey) Grammar Sidenote: Can you believe Z gets away with punching one of the Kings in the face right after a Wings goal?

Thanks Tim for being a fan of another team and using logic when it comes to Favre. For some reason, this seems hard for some people. It's funny how we all seem to think its ok to have Chelios on our team because he's still good even for his age, yet Favre (who's just under 8 years younger) is just to darn old and washed up. Nevermind the fact that he's second in the league only to Brady for passing yards, 5th in the league for TD's, he's thrown less INT's than Peyton Manning, Romo and Palmer (he's currently 12th in the league for picks - which is a skewed stat given how many QB's have already been benched for the season or had season-ending injuries), and has the 5th best passer rating. Not to mention he's led his team to a 12-2 start, and was a major factor in the Packers starting off 5-1, given that we had zero run game until they played Denver. Stupid old man. He should just retire.

I think Wings fans are too harsh on Lilja, but Sammy is fair game if you ask me. Lilja has greatly improved his play ever since February of last season, but Sammy continues to make poor shot decisions. I'm all for a putting the puck on net and nabbing garbage, seeing as thats the way to score come playoff time, but I don't see the logic behind Sammy's shot target. For example, when a player is crashing the net he mostly puts the puck up high giving the goalie ample opportunity to freeze the play with a glove save or he rips it off the goalie's chest (who then corrals the puck before it ever comes close to rebounding on the ice level). When no one whatsoever is in front of the net he tends to shoot low which gives the goalie all the opportunity in the world to make a comfortable butterfly style save without much chance of the puck finding the back of the net. Those are the types of mental mistakes I see with Sammy. If he's going to shoot the puck *on net* 3+ times per game (like he has been--30 GP, 95 SOG, 3 Goals, 3.167 Score/Shot % :nonono: ) he needs to make them count. He needs to choose those higher percentage SOG's based on the players that are either around the goal (low shot) or not (high shot: 1-foot+ off the ground--most of the time, but not always). That will not only most likely increase his Score/Shot %, but it will create more goals off rebounds when the opportunity presents itself.

Oh Timothy, if you're were going to post that, why did you use the gold old color green? I don't blame you for loving Favre. Seriously though, I've appreciated all your constructive posts in this thread. It's always nice for a fan of a not only another team but a divisional opponent to be as subjective and civil as you have been in this thread. Best of luck to your Lions the rest of the way, and lets hope next year its GB and DET duking it like it was the first half of the season.

If you're going to make comments like this you really need to back them up with a source.

No worries, there's nothing to jinx. Regardless of what happens in the next month and a half, it won't change the fact that all the projections (even some by myself) were blown out of the water.
