    Hasek Challenges, Gaborik goes Airborn

But it sure puts it in the gray area due to the fact that he did get the puck first and took Gaborik out second. No offense Toby, but talk about a contradiction between your two points. In your first point you say it was an illegal hit, yet in the second point you say it was a good play. IMO, aside from something like hooking someone on a breakaway to prevent a goal (thus taking a penalty), there isn't anything in hockey that can be considered a good play while being illegal. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the second point you give reason as to why it wasn't dirty due to the fact that we wouldn't be discussing this had Gaborik not flown through the air. Was it a little questionable seeing as that he barely got the puck before he took out Gaborik: I can see your argument. Was it within the rules: Yes.

    Zetterberg two-way player

What are you talking about? According to the article Z was responsible for the shutout. Looks like the Selke is about to become the biggest joke trophy in the NHL. Now players will strive for the Selke II, which will be given to the best defensive forward that also posts the most shutouts for his respective team.

    Hasek Challenges, Gaborik goes Airborn

This is beyond ridiculous. Here's the bottom line: Gaborik had his head down which any NHL player should know better than. Hasek was smart enough to notice this and take advantage of it. He got the puck first, protected himself second, and it was a slightly scary ending to a *completely legal* hit. Hasek did everything right on that play, and Gaborik put himself in the situation he ended up in. Tough luck, get your head up next time. *Pictures this*

NHL needs to return to ESPN

While I agree that a move back to ESPN would help the league financially, that last time I checked the league continues to exceed projections each of the last three years (thus the salary cap has gone up). Just because the general American public doesn't get into hockey like they do Football, its not as if the league is struggling.

If you could bring one player back from '96-'97?

QFT While Fedorov was the better player, Shanny was the more important player.

No we're on the same page. I concur with everything you just said.

Trust me....it was Calder. I was at that game last year. It was against the Avalanche, and they didn't call a penalty on the play. The crowd went f*ckin' ballistic, especially when the replay showed up on the JumboTron. Sidenote: If you took a stick to the face and it got caught between your chin strap and your face you'd probably look weird too.

Stoll and Torres Healthy Scrathes for Oilers

IMO the downside of Stoll is that he's not going to balance out the Wings attack, and Detroit has enough to worry about after this season in regards to cap space. That, and the fact that if he was being used for trade bait, the Wings could get someone better near the deadline to fill their needs. The key in your post is "what they would want in return", because I'm sick of people (not directed at you) thinking we can just throw picks away. But again, Yzerfan1999 makes a valid point. They're probably healthy scratches to send a message.

Stoll and Torres Healthy Scrathes for Oilers

Torres is under contract for another 2 seasons beyond this one, and Stoll is overpaid. There's a reason Stoll is being shopped, and Torres isn't worth the additional years left on his contract. The Wings need balanced scoring threats, but these two won't bring anything to the table the Wings don't already have.

You know what though, I'm not sure if I tried his/her link last time, but whose ever link I used didn't work. I know it wasn't the Sopcast feed (which I remember using last year when I was on vacation) because the feed is so choppy it isn't even worth it.

    12/7 GDT: Red Wings 5, Wild 0

SOB, it looks as though this game got pulled by NHL Network? I checked Center Ice last night, and the game isn't listed. After that I checked our local FSN which pulls a lot of the Wild games and it wasn't listed there either. Even though I know Versus only plays Monday games, I checked there as a last resort. Anyone want to hook NFM up with an online feed (aside from Sopcast) of the game? The last time I tried it I struggled to get it rolling so maybe I could set things up in advance to ensure I've got things in working order.

    Schneider on the move?

Just imagine if he gets shipped to a crappy team. :nonono: That can't be what Schneids envisioned his season would be like. Even though this wouldn't be your standard sign-and-trade deal, I can't imagine this makes Burke look any "better" than he already does. This isn't a shot at the Blackhawks at all, but that team is seriously becoming an hotbed for ex-Wings. If this keeps up we'll actually be able to state with certainty which team is better, the 2007 Red Wings or the Red Wings of 5 years ago!

    Dom in net vs. Minnesota

I couldn't agree more, and right now I fully believe that Ozzie should be getting the slight majority of nods due to his play. I'm not sure Jen if you kept reading after my reply to you, but I would hope its abundantly clear that I don't favor either goaltender on a regular basis and rather I want the goalie in net that gives the Wings the best chance to win. Right now Ozzie has proved that he is that guy, and I feel he should be getting 4 out of every 7 nods until one of two things happens, (1) he cools down, or (2) Dom gets even hotter than Ozzie is. I hope everyone understands that I don't favor either goalie. In fact, I think people are quite confused by my posts because I don't support one over the other. What I do do ( Chandler ) is try and see things that are in the best interest of the team regardless of either goalie's "feelings" or what people on this board think they know about their beloved goalie. Lastly, I would completely agree with you though in the fact that if Dom can't show consistency over the next couple months (and given that Ozzie keeps up his level of play), that the 4 out of 7 ratio I was talking about should probably be bumped up to 2-out-of-3 or even 5-of-7, and let Oz lead the way for us in the playoffs.

    Dom in net vs. Minnesota

And you're dead on with the bolded statement. Even though his play was solid, that coupled with Babs possibly wanting to get Hasek right back out there after a win are probably why he's going with Dom tomorrow. To answer your question, I do expect Ozzie on Sunday, and I truly hope Babs keeps them splitting time so that they both are in a rhythm and ready to step up if either falters. That's the best case scenario for the Red Wings especially if both goalies are playing their best leading up to the playoffs. Can you imagine having both Ozzie playing like he is, and Dom playing like he did last year in the playoffs in the middle of April? That would be insane, and a great problem to have if you're the Wings coaching staff.

    Dom in net vs. Minnesota

Don't take this the wrong way, but what don't you understand about what I'm proposing? I agree with the bolded analysis, and my response to that is what I've already been saying in all of my posts in this thead.....Split time. IMO, that should accomplish both goals.

    Dave Strader sighting

Regardless, I've always liked Panger. He's a great hockey personality and seems like an all-around fan of the game rather than favoring any team in particular (which can't be said about a good amount of sportscasters).

    Dom in net vs. Minnesota

I couldn't agree more, and if you're talking about 4 out of the next 7 games for Dom I'm totally with you. What I don't agree with is those saying Dom should start the next 2 or 3 games in a row. All the Dom loyalists are saying that we need to get Dom going right now so we have two goalies rocking, but if you neglect the other goalie, by the time its said and done you might not accomplish getting both goalies going. Instead you may have gotten Dom going, but Ozzie may cool off as a result of less playing time. Nor do I, but if you start shelving any goalie for weeks at a time (which is what some are suggesting to happen this week atleast), you really can't expect Ozzie to keep his rhythm. Bottom line, I want both goalies rocking, but not at the expense of cooling down the hottest goalie in the league. Simple as that. Edit: Spelling
