I can't imagine why the Wings Divisonal rival fans think Wings fans can come across as arrogant.

GO PACK GO!

Seconded The only QB in the league right now that would think of doing that would be Brady due to his weapons. Other than that, 30 other QB's wouldn't have touched that play with a 10-foot stick. To you Brett. You continue to amaze!

Fire on Ice...Ticket packages available now..

To be honest, I could care less about any marketing gimmicks. If that's what it takes for people to be interested in the Wings, then they aren't that interested in the first place. -
That thought crossed my mind as well, but I decided to chalk it up as us not being able to see it in that pic.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one that got a chuckle out of his logic. I also particularly liked the following comment: Gofigure, cause I would've blamed Osgood! Sidenote: Lilja has been playing solid ever since March.

Last postseason I lost a lot of respect for Iginla. It's one of those things that seriously leaves you upset, because you do actually appreciate and respect what these guys do on the ice. However, after that series all the respect I had for Iginla was lost due to his temper and ill-advised tactics. Last night I saw it in Big Joe. Another guy I had nothing but respect for, but talk about a temper-tantrum. A typical, "We can't win so I'm going to slash guys from behind when the play is no where near them" or "I'm going to get that extra shot in after the ref blows the whistle, just to satisfy my temper". I understand tempers can get the best of people. Hell, they've gotten the best of me at times when playing sports, but for some reason its more upsetting when its one of the elite that commits these acts. Thoughts? Which of the "elite" have you lost respect for?

The Elite That You've Lost Respect For
NeverForgetMac25 replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
This has nothing to do with how I think the game should be played. I'm talking about playing by the rules and with integrity. Slashing a guy from behind who is nowhere near the play is not only a penalty, but its cheap. The fact that it was Z is irrelavant. I don't care if it was Samuelsson that he slashed. The point is, I'm a huge advocate for fast-paced, physical, hard-hitting hockey. Last night when there was about 10 minutes left, the Canucks had a shift where they hit any Red Wing in sight. They were clean hits, and it fired up the team. That's great IMO. If slashing a guy from behind when your team is down and out of a game gets your team fired up, then I find that sad. Sidenote: Comparing Yzerman chewing out a ref and getting kicked out of a game is nothing like slashing a player from behind that isn't even in the play. Stevie was fired up, and he let the ref know how pissed he was. He was standing up for his team. How is that anything like what Thorton did, or does when he gets frustrated? Sidenote 2: I'm not expecting anyone to play with the standard Yzerman did. I feel every player should play the way that's made them successful as long as its *within the rules*. Simple as that. -

Seriously GS&T? This isn't about Yzerman, and it sure as hell isn't about playing chippy, fighting or drilling somebody. I'm all for alll of those things. What I'm not for is a guy slashing our star player from behind because he's pissed off that his team is getting their lunch handed to them. Also, I've played the game for over 15 years and I was all for physical play. I got angry just as much as anybody, and physical play would start to show, but I showed it by drilling a guy into the boards with a legal hit. You should've noticed that this thread wasn't the result of "one game" or "3 shifts of a game". If that were the case, I wouldn't have posted about this at all. -
Ditto for Chicago (United Center) as well.
-
I gotta agree. Probably during game 4 when the Wings dominated the entire game.

Still a good amount of unknown in the league. I'll deal with my 11/20.

It's sad but I gave up on my own thread already, and F.Michael since nothing is getting through to you, I'll finish my involvment in this debate by *once again* stating the whole basis of my arguement: Do players get upset and take cheap liberties on the other team: Yes. Does it make it right: No. The fact that you condone that type of play because "that's how its always been" is what I don't agree with. Guys like Yzerman may get frusterated from time to time, but I've never seen him hacking at opposing teams star players from behind when they were nowhere near the play. When the Sharks are down and out of a game, Thornton is starting to be known for his temper. Same can be said about Iginla. End Thread -

Fresh material? You're the one saying to leave it as is, because this is how players have always been. I find that ridiculous because there are plenty of examples of players that play the game with integrity. I bring up a couple players that haven't and you defend them as if its inconsequential seeing as that this is hockey has "always been". Did you ever see guys like Yzerman ever slash a guy from behind when the team was down and out? That's my point. Sidenote: Speaking of being original.....way to use the "Dear God please make it stop" kid. I didn't realilze you came up with that? -

Your logic is ridiculous, and I'd be very willing to bet more than a handful would agree with me. Sidenote: Last time I checked, Don Cherry is a D-Bag. -

The movie Dodgeball. Cotton says it to Pepper Brooks right before sudden death Dodgeball. Just a mere 20+ years. Trust me, I know the game. Seriously, what don't you get about what I'm saying? Let me spell it out for you since nothing I'm saying seems to be getting through to you....I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I'm saying it doesn't make it right. -

I find that reasoning pathetic. I totally understand it happens because these guys are competitive, but it doesn't make it the right thing to do. As HS said, sports don't build character, they reveal it. -

I still think you are. The point of this thread was more referring to players that refer to these tactics when their team is down and out. I am all for aggressive, physical hockey, but when your team is out of the game and your slashing players from behind its uncalled for and unnecessary. It's essentially the definition of "gooning it up". That's what I'm referring to. This has nothing to do with physical hockey and throwing your weight around. -

I can appreciate that, but If this was the first time Joe had acted like he did last night, I wouldn't have brought up this thread. -

Of course this is hockey, but your missing the point. What I don't care for is seeing a guy like Z skating away from the puck and having a player slash him from behind. If you want to call that hockey, I can't stop you, but I feel that's the type of stuff that makes people lose respect for players. Don't misunderstand me, I love good old fashioned physical hockey. I truly wish there was more of it in the "new" nhl, but there is plenty of opportunity to hit a guy clean. What Joe was doing last night was not of that variety. That's my point. I respect him as a player, but he does falls into that category. -
