This is what happens when a GM sells off any chance of a teams future for a couple rental players. Complain all you want about Holland, but the Wings got their rental player last year for practically nothing.

He was the director of player development for the Penguins for their 91 Cup season (if you want to count that). He coached the team to the Cup in 92.

No He has 5 with Montreal, 1 With Pittsburgh and 3 with Detroit

#19 is lame. How about replacing it with: Scotty Bowman Hat Trick - 1,248 Career Wins, 9 Stanley Cups, 0 B.S.

And its officially time to close your thread.

Seriously? It's going to the game a few hours in advance, grilling out, having some beers, and playing yard games (I.E. Bags, Washers, etc.) right by your parked car. Put simply, it's like having a little pre-party before you head to the bars.

If by "right" you mean you are "wrong", than sure! Can this Wings team contend without adding Forsberg: I believe they can. Do I believe they should try: I don't. Sidenote: Trust me GS&T...I'm right. No matter what the subject.....I'm right!

I haven't read this thread in a while.

Cue Dats.

You think I'm overanalyzing it, yet your response could fill novels. You want to call a spade a spade, were both analyzing it because we're both just that interested in hockey. Nothing wrong with that, and honestly I always appreciate a well-written argument from anyone I don't happen to see eye-to-eye with. My only point was that we've heard the "wake the f*** up people" comments before, only to see the Wings light up the scoreboard in the not so distant future. If you don't have faith in this Wings offense, I'm won't fault you. It just seems eerily familiar. Sidenote: I agree that Holland should make a move.

I'm not asking anyone to withhold their feelings, but lets put some substance into those thoughts. You're scared about the Wings offense........so give me some ideas on what to do about it rather than just coming here and saying this team doesn't have it. Or atleast give me reasoning why the Wings are going to be so much worse off without only 1 of our 12 starting forwards that started last season that actually made an impact (I.E. Williams or Norton). Scoring/depth up front was a problem then, same as it is now. If you didn't know, I've been one of those stating before the season even started that the Wings should make a play for a guy like Forsberg. A second-line proven scorer, that will cost the team nothing in regards to pics/players. If you just want to come on here and complain about the lack of production up front (which we all can see plain as crystal), then you're just the kettle calling the pot black. What, and you think I do? But lets talk solutions rather than doom and gloom.

Ugly, Choppy game, but we'll take the win. Our boys have a lot to work on during the bye week, but I'm ecstatic heading in 5-1. Before the season started, I would have been thrilled to be 3-3 heading into the bye.

While I agree that Dom is the better goaltender, he is 0-1-1 against the Blackhawks thus far, so your point about Osgood's 2 wins against poor teams isn't very valid.

You're just not looking at the big picture here. We hear this kind of complaining all the time. We heard it last season, the season before, and the season before that. The Wings will go through slumps where they aren't playing as well, and the entire board freaks out. Then, all of sudden the Wings go on a 4 game winning streak and all of a sudden they are gods of Hockey, and as a result all of this sort of talk subsides. The point is that the Wings aren't sitting at 1-4-2, they are 4-2-1, on top of their division, and have yet to even play solid hockey. Should the Wings go after a 2nd line sniper right now: Yes. Will the Wings be out of playoff contention if they don't: No.

I don't want to get in a pissing match either, but once again you've failed to address my point about the Ducks players coming in at completely different speeds which made this play anything but a normal 2-on-1. When Nieds made that pass he was barely moving forward while Pahlsson was going Mac 10. If Lids had gone down, whats to say he doesn't lift the puck over him with the same type of pass, or even delay to let Lids slide out of position? Bingo!

Record 7 Games Into the Season 2006/2007: 5-0-2, 12 Points 2007/2008: 4-2-1, 9 Points Record 12 Games Into the Season 2006/2007: 5-2-4, 14 Points 2007/2008: Unkown Wait until we're atleast 12 games into the season before an "accurate" record will reveal itself.

I'm not sure who you're referring to, but I have no problem admitting a mistake when any Red Wing makes one. I was the first to call out his OT mistake last season against the Blackhawks that lead to the game winner.

You seriously want to split hairs by me saying "not even" a handful of games as opposed to "exactly" a handful of games. Instead of looking at how many games he's played, maybe you should look at the fact that his average TOI is a mere 4:13. It's pretty easy for you to make that assessment watching the game from the comfort of your couch. Don't you think Lids was a little more concerned with the initial 1-on-1 matchup rather than a trailer's (that may not even catch up) shooting position? Don't get me wrong, when its a clear cut 2-on-1, you're supposed to do it exactly the way you just described. I'm not questioning that, but the way that play developed it definitely didn't make for a standard 2-on-1 positioning. The big thing here is that Pahlsson and Niedermayer were coming in at completely different speeds than a standard 2-on-1. If Lids streaks more towards the inside as you described, and Niedermayer continues at the pace he was skating, whats to stop (besides Chris Chelios ) Pahlsson from getting behind Lids and having a wide open side of the net to work with? Also, it took a perfect pass over Lids stick to complete that play. Pahlsson even had to coral the puck slightly before shooting. Lids isn't the goat on this play, Rafalski is.

You're correct in saying "this is the league toady and they should know it", but you have to admit that most games aren't called *that* tight. That was just horrible for both sides. What I saw last night wasn't hockey.
-
Switch the D pairings: 1. Lidstrom - Kronwall 2. Rafalski - Lilja 3. Lebda - Chelios Booyah! I'll give you Hudler and even Filpulla, but Kopecky, Maltby, Drake and Ellis (who hasn't even played a handful of those games). Talk about twisting stats. I'd be willing to bet there are other teams with similar numbers of offensive players that haven't scored so far this young season. It all starts at the draft. Than you wouldn't have made the correct play. Lids did it right, and if that pass wasn't perfect that goal would've never happened. There's a reason he has 5 Norris trophies, and playing perfect positionally is just one of the reasons he has that many. He was correct positionally. If you want to be mad about that play, Rafalski is the one that sprang the 2-on-1 to begin with. Franzen has played less than 2 games this season. Draper: 5 Goals - 5 Points Samuelsson: 1 Goal, 3 Assists - 4 Points Cleary: 1 Goal, 2 Assists - 3 Points Between the three of them thats comes to almost 2 points per game. No, its not DZH numbers, but how many times do the Red Wings have to start a season slow before the majority of you guys realize its kind of a trend of theirs?
-
I'm not talking about that at all. I'm just saying that it isn't true that no team in NHL history has won a game after not converting a 5-on-3.

24 penalties :nonono:

I'm calling bulls*** on this ccomment.

I will say this, it was a bad night for our PP success to sputter.
