QFT I love Dats, but when you have the chance to nab a player like Luongo, you do what it takes to make it work. While Dats is an incredible talent, as you said, he can be replenished in certain degrees via free agency. Here's hoping Jimmy can take that step and be somewhat in the same ballpark...........again, Here's hoping!

Yeah, I've got CI as well (year 3 now for me). Also, I'll be heading to Chicago on Saturday for the Wings/Hawks game, and Wildwings44 and I will be heading to the Joe on December 1st for the Wings/Coyotes game. Hope I can see some of you there.

If its a "workload" thing I totally understand (See my Playoff Picks Game), but if you don't mind it, I loved having it every weekend.

To be honest though, if the Wings are going to rotate the "A", I can't imagine they wouldn't do it amongst all three players. I don't think the Wings organization would put Z on a pedestal over Draper at this point (even though we've all heard that Z is being groomed to take over the Captaincy). If I had to bet, all three will rotate it equally.

Dude, I get that, but for the millionth time, please explain to me how according to you, "Pavel BY HIMSELF can make a much bigger impact on getting the "W", than Draper BY HIMSELF with his defense" makes him a better leader than Draper.

I guess then thank god for Draper having the right people around him. Nevermind that he's considered one of the best penatly killers in the game. It's definitely gotta be the guys around him. It's interesting how you discredit Draper based on the players around him, yet you fail to do so in Dats' case. I know what you mean, that Holmstrom doesn't know how to redirect shots at all, and Z definitely doesn't have a knack for burying the puck. Thank god Dats made that line "tick" last season. You're missing the point. This isn't about Dats' skill.......I've never questioned that.

BB91, don't misunderstand me. I think Dats is a phenomenal talent and an integral part of the Wings. Make no mistake, my view on this subject is in no way a knock on Dats. I just don't see the need to appoint another Alternate Captain when the two that the Wings have are doing a great job.

Aside from points what does Dats bring to the table more than Draper does?

Yes, Cheli and Draper did during the 2005/2006 season if Lids or Shanny (or Yzerman for that matter) didn't play. But that was just in the case of an injury. This sounds like its going to be a rotating system regardless of player health.

Call it what you want, I still agree with GS&T that its redundant. Why not designate him the Alternate Captain in the event of an injury to Z or Drapes? That would still show confidence in Dats without the "every-other" method. Maybe its just a tradition thing for me, but I like that the Wings had 1 Captain and the same 2 Alternates (barring no injuries). You can count me as one that would mind. Obviously they don't, because if they did, they would've stripped Drapes of his title and given it directly to Dats.

I never said Dats didn't deserve it (or that Z or Drapes are crying over it), I just don't think they should lose their "A" every third game when they did nothing but a great job as Alternate Captains last season. It's not a knock on Dats in any way. And you think Dats is more deserving than Z or Drapes?
