Who's basing it on last season? The guy is a perennial 20-25 goal scorer on any team he plays on. Has nothing to do with Malkin or Crosby. Take a look at his career as a whole.
-
League minimum? Even at his age, he's still a perennial 20-goal, 45-point scorer who hasn't missed practically any action the past 5 years. I'd sure as hell take him for the league minimum, just like any other GM in the NHL would....but he's worth (and will get) more than that.
-
I'm fairly confident you just repeated what I said, and listed the Hawks roster to go with it.
-
True, and I was simply referring to the cash aspect of things. IIRC, Ritola can be kept down in GR one more season eliminating the need to expose him to waivers. Letting Meech go and then using the bonus cushion if bonus' need be applied will do the trick. I think you're missing the point of what I'm saying. I'm referring to a qualifying offer being more lucrative then the renegotiation's.
-
Absolutely it can. Bonuses can apply to either this year or the following. But his question was based on no one being be moved. If that's the case and both Modo and Salei's bonuses are met, then they'd be $775,377 over.
-
Yeah, this move will give them $1.5 million in cap room. They still need to add one more guy up front.
-
Loaned, booted out....what's the difference, eh?
-
Depends on the potential bonuses for Modo and Salei. If both performance bonus' are met, the Wings are now actually $775,377 over the cap, which would have to apply to next years' team.
-
I understand all that...my point is that 99.9% of time no player in their right mind is going to make less than their QO.
-
Freep is reporting the terms now:
-
Really? That seems kind of ridiculous if the player was given his qualifying offer which would be more than the league minimum.
-
It completely depends on what space Kenny's comfortable with. He's stated in the past he'd like around $500k for call-ups, and given the Wings could potentially owe $850k worth of bonuses either at the end of this year, next year or a combination of the two, there's a few scenarios. To make things easy, lets assume both Modo and Salei hit their milestones. Given Abby's cap hit is $787,000 per that puts the Wings at a Cap Payroll of $60,174,877 (or $774,877 over the cap). The Wings could choose to pay out potential bonuses met next year at the expense of that year's Cap. Now keep in mind Kenny can do any combination of moves he feels like up to the 10% overage and still ice a team, but that overage will affect next years team cap. I 100% disagree. Given his cap hit and potential he would absolutely be picked up.
-
NO way he clears waivers. Given how light his cap hit is he's too attractive for every single team in the NHL to pass up.
-
Abby...obviously. Beat at your own game hillbilly!

That must be based on the previous seasons' salary. Last year, Abdelkader's base salary was $710,000 with a potential performance bonus of $140,000 (which he must not have met). Since he made more than $660k but less than $1 million he was due a 5% raise, which would've put him at no less than $745,5000. Not too shabby if you're Ken Holland!

Not that there was any concern of a deal not working out, its nice to see nonetheless. That'll wrap up our postseason. Great job this summer by Kenny and Co!

How big of a Wings fan is your Wife/Girlfriend/Significant Other?
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Bring Back The Bruise Bros's topic in General
Before I met my wife, she had never watched hockey a minute in her life. Now, almost 10 years later she loves the Wings and watches hockey all the time. I've really gotten her into the sport and now she actually puts it on when we go to sleep because it soothes her. -
Atleast he's not over-hyping him like some brass' like to do.

Thanks for posting! One of the best Pav videos I've ever seen. Just watching all the highlight-reel goals he's scored really drives home how special of a player he truly is. His hands and shiftiness are second to no one in this world.
-
This sounds more like posturing for the NHL than anything else. They're basically trying to drive home the concept of "don't try to pull off any more s*** contracts" or they'll get rejected.
-
Fixed it for you. Hindsight's always 20/20, but had Kenny kept Quincey and let Meech go chances are Q would've played atleast somewhat close to the potential he's shown in LA and COL and he'd be out of the Wings' price range anyway.
-
Realistically, as long as Kenny wants to stand pat at the deadline, Detroit could even pay both Modo's and Salei's bonuses with this years' cap money. Let's say Abdelkader gets an equal deal to that of Helm (which I feel is slightly overestimating it rather than under) at a Cap-hit of $912,500. That's puts the Wings at a current Cap Payroll of $60,300,377 (or Cap Space of -$900,377). Given both Miller's and Meech's salary are removed (either through waivers or trade) Kenny then has $249,623 in Cap Space remaining for injury call-ups. Granted its half of what he was looking for but as long as the Wings stay relatively healthy, the call-ups shouldn't take away too much of that cap space. Even if it chews up the entire almost $250k, all of a sudden the Wings have zero carry-over bonuses next year (which wouldn't be the worse thing to begin with give the current state of the team for 2011/2012). Now, if Kenny really wants to go for broke, he could choose to apply the bonuses to next year's team and literally add a player with a cap hit of roughly $4 million at the deadline to put the team over the top if he feels its necessary. No matter how you slice it, Kenny's assembled an incredible team with the Cap Space he's had and barring an epic meltdown of Howard, there's no reason to think this season won't be great for Wings fans.

Best of luck to Lilly! Salei will work.

Neither have done enough to be retired *by Detroit.* A number retirement in Detroit is as hard as any other team in the league, and aside from Lidstrom there's no one on this team that I would say will be an automatic retirement at this point.
