Of course Roddick isn't what Andre or Sampras were, no one ever said he was. Roddick needs to become a more complete player, this is true, but he doesn't suck. The Wings upgraded on D by getting Rafalski, and it isn't too big of a deal losing Markov. Who are these players that put in our goals last year that found other teams? With the loss of Calder, Bertuzzi, Lang (and I'll even throw in Williams) thats a total of only 37 goals out of the 254 that they scored last season. I'm pretty sure with the addition of Grigs, and the increased ice time of guys like Cleary, Filppula, Hudler, Franzen, etc. that they can make up the difference. This sentence isn't directed at you cprice, but why is that people assume that when a player leaves the Wings that those goals will not be accounted for next season, unless the Wings pick a solid UFA to bury them? While increased TOI isn't proportional to goals scored, it atleast generally means increased scoring.

QFT However, it would be a much different story if the Wings signed a UFA only to turn around and trade said player. It is a little different in Hudler's situation since he's a RFA. That being said, moving a newly signed RFA before the season starts would still be looked down upon by a good amount of players, it just wouldn't be as severe as doing it to a UFA. Edit: Wording

Since he just re-signed with the Wings, there about a 99% chance that this wouldn't happen during the offseason since sign & trade is very frowned upon. Either one. If the Wings have cap room left over at the end of the season all that would be applied to cover any pending bonuses. If there are still bonuses pending above and beyond the cap, they would come off next years cap.
