Aside from being a blue line sniper, Schneider is nowhere near Lids. Schneider could only dream of reading the game the way Lidstrom does. Lids' hockey intelligence puts him way out of Schneider's league.

That being said, they've made some decent improvements as of late, but they'll still need to be smarter with who they bring in and how much they give to certain players.

Philly may have screwed the market temporarily, but not every UFA will be able to sign for their desired amount. Schneids may get $5 on the open market.......but only if he's snatched up immediately. The players that don't get signed within a few days of July 1st, will end up not making their exact desired amount. Granted, the best ones will be snatched up within those first couple of days, but Kenny will be able to go out and get a second tier defenseman at a discounted rate (a week or two after July 1st) to supplement either Schneider or Markov (or a player of that calibre). There's your two defensmen, bring back Bert (if you can get him reasonably I.E. $2-$3 million), and sign Hasek to his $2.5 million base contract. Top Tier Dman: $4 million Second Tier Dman: $1.5-$2 million Bert: $2-$2.5 million Dom: $2 million (with performance bonuses) Total: $10 million

While I'm glad Lewis isn't the Wings head coach anymore, I don't think one year is fair to judge him based on the state the team was in before he got there. Here's hoping he finds a team that gives him a fair amount of time to turn things around.

The voting is done before the playoffs start, and is solely based on the regular season. Everything that happened in the last two months holds no bearing on the outcome of that award. IMO Lidstrom was better this postseason than Niedermayer.

Of course he could waive it, but there are players out there that only want to win a Cup with the team they played with all season rather than being a rental player and taking the easier route to the Cup. To some people, that means a great deal. Sundin has always seemed to be one of those people.
