No matter what the term/amount is, it will tell alot about the future of the Wild. Thus my "interesting" comment.

Thanks for screwing us all, Mr. Bettman

This would have been a much better way to start the thread, and I can empathize with a good portion of it. -
It'll be interesting to see how much they signed Backstrom for.

Official LGW Playoff Picks Game: Round 4
NeverForgetMac25 replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
The Final Standings for the 1st Annual LGW Playoff Picks game will be posted this afternoon. I will say this: We have a lone winner. -

How do you think Dallas got those real fans? Sidenote: I hate Bettman as much as anybody here. Check my previous posts. However, I'm not in agreement with you when it comes to teams not deserving a Cup simply because hockey isn't thriving amongst those cities' fans. -
I would hate to see Pronger on the Wings as well, but keep in mind that plenty of people said this about Cheli and Bert.

Understood. I don't like some of the new rule changes either, but I'm certainly not going to sit here and whine about a team from the South winning the Cup. Is it fair to lump Dallas into this generalization? They're doing pretty d*mn good for a below the sun-belt team. Sidenote: Most of this response is to the thread starter (IE the Dallas comment), not you WS. -

I'll give you that Heatley had a forgettable finals, but I hardly think Ottawa is kicking themselves. Keep in mind that even though Heatley had only 1 point in the finals, he had 21 points in the 15 playoff games leading up to them, and his line destroyed Buffalo.

In the playoffs: Absolutely In the conference finals: Decent Chance In the SCF's: Probably Not Even with a bunch of UFA's/RFA's the Ducks are still solid enough with a playoff proven goaltender. They'll be back, but how far will depend on how many guys they're able to sign this summer.

Great to hear! Here's hoping he makes it official.

Congratulations Ducks, minus Pronger. :rotflmao:

Game 5 with Paul Devorski: Ottawa - 6 Penalties Anaheim - 3 Penalties Not to poke fun, but you gotta admit thats funny. Give me actual stats to support this claim. I'll be waiting anxiously to hear them.

Very uninspired first period for the Sens.

What a shocker.

First off, let me say great job on digging deeper. The more I looked into it, I realized you're correct. NFM always admits when he's wrong (even though it was on a technicality in this case, which BTW was what through me off ) but you are correct on the overall Yashin cap number issue. That being said, for this quote, I found Yashin's cap number to be $6.941 per year, which would put the Isles savings at $18.965 million. Correct me if I'm wrong.
-
Ok, I've almost got this all figured out, but to make sure my numbers are right, what did you use to calculate your "line 2" (Original Averaged Amt.) in the Yashin case? Does $7 million sound right?
-
I never said it was just 4 years. Did you read any of my initial posts on the previous page? I was the first one saying it was for 8 years. What I was saying, was that toby_91 is correct in saying that the difference over the next *4 years only* is about $20 million ($17.65 to be exact). Even after those first 4 years, the team will continue to be stuck with $2.2 million cap hits for the next 4 years, and yes it will screw them a bit. That being said, if the cap keeps going up, in four years $2.2 million might not be that big of a deal. Understand?
-
I think the season will conclude tonight. Whether you like it or not, I just don't see Anaheim losing tonight, especially with the emotion that comes with Pronger's return.
-
Are you asking in reference to the example they give in the CBA (the one that you asked me to take a look at)? If you're not referring to the example in the CBA (Page 207), then where did the $3 million season come from?
-
Actually, if Wang wanted to he could buyout DiPietro before September 19th, and because of Dip's age the cap hit would only be $666,667 per year for the next 28 years. Funny to think about the Isles having a guy on the books through 2035, but it wouldn't be that huge of a loss to the Isles' *team* if they bought him out. That being said, if Wang bought him out right now, it would cost him $18.667 million. Good for a quick laugh.
-
They would've had to pay Yashin $26.45 million over the course of the next 4 years. Instead they bought him out, which will cost the team $8.8 million in total cap space over the next 4 years. The *team* will save $17.65 million, which is what toby_91 was referring to.

For everyone's reference, I did a "print screen" so people that are following along can view it a little easier. This page further proves what I'm saying. The key here is the word "average". Even if a player's contract differs from year to year, it still comes down to the average amount paid per year over the total amount of years remaining on the contract. If you really want to figure out what the "per year" difference would be, go ahead. However, it won't do you any good since the league recognizes cap hits for buyouts on an average basis over the course of the buyout. In other words, the team makes out a little better in the beginning of the buyout, but get the league makes up the difference on the tail end of the contract buyout.

Sarcasm? If you're being serious, no worries. That'll happen.
