Not only that, they could likely sign all their roster RFA's as well as Modano and still be under the cap.
-
For those talking about Modano, this signing should have absolutely zero barring on whether or not Mike signs with Detroit.
-
Holland thinks he is close to signing Eaves, Miller, and Meech

Miller now re-signed to 1-year deal. Salary not yet available. Link: Miller Re-Signs 1-Year Deal with Detroit LGW Thread -
Sounds like it was a single year deal. No idea on the amount yet, obviously.
-
I'm intrigued to hear his salary. It'll bring some clarity to what Eaves will likely get. I'm guessing no more than $750,000.
-
No one's saying that, but its naive to think it truly wouldn't be thought of in a salary hearing. Is Huet obviously overpaid: of course. Does that mean his salary is 100% irrelevant: absolutely not.
-
QFT I've never agreed with his number being retired league-wide. Above and beyond what you said, there's plenty of argument that Gretzky wasn't the greatest player of all-time. He's obviously the greatest scorer in the history of the game, but one aspect of the game doesn't make him automatically the greatest *all-around* player of all-time.

The beauty of the Huet contract....it continues to find new ways to F*ck the Blackhawks.
-
Couldn't believe this news when I heard it yesterday. Just terrible. My condolences to all those affected by this tragic loss.

Stevie Y adds Kubina for 2 years at a cool $3.875 million per. Great signing!
-
Paul, is that you?
-
Says the guy who's money it isn't. I shouldn't have even dignified this post with a response.
-
Beyond unbelievable.
-
The deal we've all been waiting for has finally been completed. Curtis Sanford re-signs with Monteal for one year at a cool $550k.
-
These prices are atrocious. Given the lack of talent available it doesn't surprise me how teams are overpaying, but I'm sure glad Kenny isn't one of them. What was that? To waste bandwidth. Silly NFM....I'm now adding to the problem.
-
Yeah.....because the way you put it seemed chalked-full of sarcasm. See what I did there?
-
Yeah, that's gotta be it. That, or he didn't feel like ridiculously overpaying for players that aren't that important. Boogaard for $1.625 per, Armstrong for $3....ridiculous. Kenny *shouldn't* have any part of this.
-
It's less than that. Take a look at Prongers contract: » $7.600, $7.600, $7.200, $7.000, $4.000, $0.525, $0.525. From year 5 to 6, it sees around 1/7th of the previous year.
-
Teams front-load a contract to get the player to sign for a lower total amount which reduces the cap hit. The reasoning/benefit to the player is they get the bulk of the contract earlier on and they can re-coup the "lost" money through investing.

Nittymaki...the savor of SJ!
-
BlakChamber just ran and hid somewhere. The is truly pathetic! We're not talking about a bunch of 6-year old's here. Even if we were.....wow!
-
Not via the FA market, but that wasn't the point of my post. It was more a shot at SJ than anything.
-
If SJ is trying to get over the hump with playoff-calibre goaltending, Turco's not exactly an ideal candidate.
-
Do you mean in general? He's pretty much the same height as Lilja so it shouldn't be a drastic difference in that department.
-
McKee's decent but he doesn't have the bulk Lilja does which gives Andreas an advantage on the PK. Vandermeer makes almost double what Lilja does. I'm not saying you're wrong, just that an *equal* replacement for Lilja's salary isn't as easy as most people think.
