Yzerman asks Wings for permission to speak with capologist Martin
NeverForgetMac25 replied to Yzermania19's topic in General
I'm 93% sure that on 58% of days that's Eva Unit Zero's job. -
I know you know this UK but for those that don't, attendance figures are for paid ticket sales, not the number of people that attend a game.

Really? Gofigure! Look, no one's saying he's going to be as stellar as he was this year, but he'll likely have a better team playing in front of him all season given that another black-plague's worth of injuries doesn't befall this team again this coming season. Even if Howard did struggle, what savior of a goalie could the Wings sign with that extra $1.2 in cap room that so many are bitching about? That amount of extra cap room is hardly going to solve anything between the pipes. IT. IS. (Yes, I screamed it)

So that's supposed to be enough for Lidstrom to say, "Yup, okay.....now I'll sign for even lower than what I was going to." Please. Part of the reason he continues to take these lower priced deals *is* because of how well he's taken care of in Detroit and because of how much he's appreciated. At the same token, $1 million likely won't be the difference either. For the love of God, the guy continues to take cut after cut and its still not enough for people. There's already members talking about bitching next year about his supposed production at $6.2, but I can't wait to hear those people's comments when the Wings are without Lidstrom all together. How could a player ever truly enforce this? If Lids did try to pull that off, Kenny could've just as easily have said, "yeah, yeah, yeah" and then turned around and given some other high-priced talent more money. It's always been an understanding. Lids, you scratch our back and we'll have all the leverage in the world to keep this team as competitive as possible.
-
Maybe he didn't want to kick the guy most responsible for the Wings' success the past 15 years in the balls. $6.2 is beyond fair for the organization and its something Lids can live with. That's most likely where that number came from....not some personal need to be the highest paid. It never was. Besides, if that were the case he'd be making $6.7+ next season given Datsyuk's salary. The "Lidstrom Cap" was awarded to him from Kenny for his financial sacrifices, not something Lids enforced.
-
That's officially the worst analogy I've heard in my entire life.
-
Yeah, we don't have to be jealous that arguably the best Dman in the league continues to sign with Detroit for large hometown discounts.
-
It was considered a "Report/Rumor" at that time. Does it really matter who started the thread?

I can see something similar to this happening: Holmstrom: $2,250,000 (With a year or two of term to make up the raise difference) Bertuzzi: $2,000,000 (Same) Helm: $800,000 Eaves: $750,000 Abdelkader: $900,000 (due to RFA re-sign raise policy) Lilja: $1,100,000 That leaves Kenny with $620,000 (pro-rated at around $3 million) to play with at the deadline unless he wants to add a Drake-type player now and remove a lower-end piece of the puzzle. This doesn't include how he's gonna handle the Meech situation given the fact that he submitted a qualifying offer. He could let Lilja walk, but personally I'd love to re-sign Lilja for anything up to what he was making these past two seasons. He's well worth it for that bottom pairing and PK'ing.

What if LGW split hairs over $6 million instead of $6.2? History will be made. [/dramatic music]
-
Just replying to Aussie_Wings post stating $6.5 million. That number is *not* confirmed.
-
Even if $6.5....and still.
-
Even at $6.5 people really need to take a step back and think about what they're bitching about.
-
But not at $6....and that's the point. It's great deal for a player of his calibre!
-
$1 million is not going to make or break this (or any) team. This is just a matter of spoiled Wings fans having their cake and eating it too.
-
Once again, says the guy who's money this isn't. Fair enough, but (1) I'm not sure a $2.5-$3 million third liner was officially in Kenny's plan to begin with, and (2) it's not completely out the window this year given the uncertainty in the bottom-6, not to mention the trade deadline.
-
I appreciate the research! mindfly: We're talking a minimum required increase for all four of those players (Abdelkader, Helm, Miller & Eaves) *combined* of only $204,944.40. Not even a quarter million....total!
-
Howard has proved capable, Sammy was a solid role-player and not too much more and Holland is looking to add a Drake-type player to the fold. No one's underestimating what those guys did. You're just not factoring into the mix what they'll have next year to replace them.

Term Term Term
-
Yeah, that almost identical roster certainly sucked in 2008.
-
Even if it was the case, which I'm not certain it is (again, dig it up if you want to use it in an argument as fact), it's not going to be earth-shattering amounts. The Wings don't have tons of cap room next year, but they do have enough to give the guys they want to keep a slight raise.
-
No, No, No....he's a greedy Swede who's made no sacrifices over the course of his career! [/sarcasm]
-
Once again, you have no clue what he's willing to sign for given term. Homer had a great season, but he's nearing the end of his career and his body isn't getting any healthier. What his agent said is what's known as "posturing" nothing more. Kenny will sit down with them and lay the facts out before them, and its absolutely insane to think Homer would raise a stink or bolt (no pun intended) over a few hundred thousand dollars. Show me that clause.
-
Look how easy that is to say when its someone else's money.
