Sad day for myself and Red Wings nation. Thanks for everything Mac....you won't be forgotten.

Here's a wild idea NHL...why don't you focus on something that's actually important rather than discussing changing more things that should never changed. What a waste of time this is.
-
There wasn't a video or anything like that, but it was written about in a pre or post game article a month or so ago.

Stevie wasn't exactly the meanest of captains either. Like Lidstrom, he didn't say much in the locker room unless it was absolutely necessary. Lids already did that earlier this season and it worked for a few games. My guess is that Draper was just fed up with how long this has gone on and decided to try his luck. What's nice about having him rotate the "A" is he's so different than the other three captains, which I think bodes extremely well for the Wings. Our other three are more soft-spoken and lead by example and although Drapes is just as humble as the others, he certainly speaks as much as the other three combined. Hopefully his rant will get them and keep them going until they get some of their injured pieces back.

What's wrong with that? If anything, it helps both the Red Wings and the Griffins get better by playing against better talent during training camp and with better talent in Grand Rapids.
-
Yes, really. Do you realize how pathetic they'll be on their third and fourth lines, not to mention the fact that they still won't have a proven goalie. You go on to say/quote the following: What do think Detroit has in Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Franzen, Lidstrom and Kronwall? Do you honestly believe its as easy as filling the rest of the roster with Eaves/Bertuzzi-type players? It sure isn't working for the Wings this season. Why would it magically work so well for the Blackhawks?

It's either a cap problem or a depth problem....and yes, the Blackhawks will have one or the other next year.
-
A great move for the NHL. Smart decision.

It's not as simple as that. First off, no one in their right-mind would take either of those two ridiculous contracts off the Blackhawks hands. The best they can truly hope for is waiving Huet, and then someone claiming him on re-entry waivers where the Hawks will be on the hook for half his salary. Second, from what I understand, if Campbell were to be bought out (given his age) he would be owed 60% of his contract and the Blackhawks could spread that amount out over double the length of his remaining contract (which would be a cap-hit of $2.14 million per season over the next 12 years). That would free up $5 million annually, which would again put them $307,000 away from *this year's* cap. Now, lets just say they did that, and were able to accomplish the aforementioned waive scenario I posted above. This would give them $3.12 million in cap room next season, with still needing to sign 3 more Offensemen, now 3 more Defensemen and 2 Goalies. To top it off, the cap is most likely going to dip next season. All this on top of their huge desire not to lose two important RFA's in Hjalmarsson and Ladd. It's just not in the cards for the Hawks to get out of this one without suffering serious depth issues.

Reckless and careless are two very different things.

The most ridiculous part of the interview to me was the last statement, where he flat-out said "I'm not going to change the way I play the game." This is same thing I was referring to in the initial Ovie thread about the hit. The guy shows zero respect for his fellow competitor, which absolutely disgusts me. Carman and HS, I couldn't agree more with your posts as well. Ovie is one of the most entertaining players to watch in the game today. His skill level and passion are second to none, but his stupidity and carelessness drop him down a major peg.
-
Again, you mean? Lids accomplished that feat in 2002.
-
I haven't had the chance to burn through this entire thread yet (so sorry if this has already been posted), but if all three have signed the aforementioned deals, this puts the Hawks $4.693 million over next years cap (given it stays the same), which we all know is *not* allowed in order to be in compliance with the salary cap. So these new "contracts" can't be processed until they've cleared enough room for them to fit under the cap. Now all that being said, this would leave the Hawks next season with 10 players up front, 5 on the backend and a single goalie. So not only do they need to trim $4.693 million before these contracts can hit the books, but they also need to move others in order to clear up enough space to add *more than* 3 Offensemen, 2 Defensemen and a goalie. Best of luck with that Chicago.

Ballard's gonna have deja vu and nightmares for a long time.

QFT No one has dominated their respective sport more than that guy has this past decade. Not only that, he's as humble and respectful as they come. Very much like Lids.

Jakub Kindl called up from Grand Rapids

I thought since the seeing the Chiropractor in Vancouver his headaches had gotten better, but he started getting ear-aches shortly after. Does anyone have any word regarding an update on that? -

I'll wish him luck. Not only that, its not as if the Wings are healthy up front which would allow them to pitch in a little more effectively on the defensive side of things. -

I'd like to see Kindl play at some point too, but a third pairing consisting of him and Meech......Jesus. You know what would be nice? If half our defensive-core that would've started the season for us wasn't out tomorrow night. Lidstrom-Ericsson Stuart-Lebda Meech-Kindl (Likely) Quite a bit different than: Lidstrom-Rafalski Kronwall-Stuart Lilja-Ericsson -
If Lids signs a 4-year deal the Wings will be on the hook cap-wise for his entire contract if he were to retire before its up. It'll be one year deals from here on out, unless he's 100% certain he'll play another two seasons. I just don't see him doing that though.

It's really the only reason I can't stand mens professional soccer. I simply get too annoyed to even watch it.
-
No one can deny his talent, but these types of hits are happening way too often. It's getting nearly impossible to respect his talent when you see these types of plays as regularly as we have. The guy really shows zero respect for his fellow athlete and he deserves a suspension not just for this play but for the multitude of others over the course of his brief NHL career.
-
Absolutely. Not only did he go over and check to make sure the photographer was ok, immediately upon the final buzzer he goes over and gives the guy his goal stick which he got a shutout with.
