Yeah it does.....especially coming off a loss. That being said, I completely agree with the the team (especially Pav) using the time for rest, and hopefully it'll help get their heads on straight and renew their sense of work ethic to close out games.

The post I replied to stated information that didn't make for a fair assessment between the two players. Sammy making $3.5 compared to Williams making $1.5 is quite a different argument than Sammy making $2.5 compared to Willy making $1.5. stevekrause then cleared up his statement and I can understand his assessment. Why don't you let stevekrause take care of himself, just like you're asking me to let the OP take care of himself? I don't argue with everyone. Besides that, why don't I have the right to post in a thread where I don't agree with an individual's post? Sure the OP can take care of her/himself, I'm just stating my opinion which is the whole point of a *discussion board.*

I highly doubt the Wings would trade Bert or Williams after signing them to 1-year UFA contracts.

Where do you come up with this? Of course Sammy isn't worth $3.5, but he was had for $2.5 which is a fair deal for a player of his talent. Sammy may or may not be better than Williams (and if he in fact isn't Kenny atleast saved $1 million), but Vancouver signed him for what he's worth and he's producing, which is what the Wings could use right now. That was the point the OP was trying to make.

It was actually a great defensive play by Maltby that got everything started. When I saw him teeing it up and then firing I said to my wife "Holy s*** that was an accurate shot to hit the upper right corner". Then I saw the replay and noticed why it ended up there. Doesn't matter....still a great play by Malts and good on him to tickle the twine at a crucial point.

What Nick has done over the course of his career is astounding. The fact that the only other Swede to reach 1,000 was one of the best forwards in the game the past 15 or so years speaks volumes to Lids' accomplishment. What made that moment even sweeter was the fact that Z got his first of the season behind him, and will hopefully roll from here on out.

Homer was flat-out great last night. Even though its early in the season he seems to have put last seasons struggles behind him and really looks like his old self. While he was never a great defensive player, he skated hard last night and really paid attention to his defensive responsibilities. He's not going to be Z or Dats in regards to having the ability to hold on to the puck or even Leino or Helm in that regard, but he did everything one could ask of him last night with what he's capable of. I'll take the Homer of last night all season! Talk about stepping up when the Wings needed someone. Speaking of stepping up....Z...with a 'beaut' of a redirection!

Not to mention having Stuart all season last year. The defense was even more stacked, Hossa was a great defensive forward addition and the team defense was still a joke. I used to think it was just complacency due to the fact that I couldn't fathom the fact that McCrimmon could seriously undue everything the defense was especially given the veteran status of our core, but something's gotta give. I'm completely on board with moving MacLean back to D and hiring someone to take over the vacant spot.

2 points off first place....Great striking distance!

The best way to get out of this funk.....use a bigger sample size.

While I don't argue the Wings have left a lot to be desired both on the PK and defensively as a whole, its not as if the Wings haven't started this way practically every season since the lockout. Perhaps not as noticeably on the PK as last season and this, but the Wings have started slow for more than just the past couple years. I realize the Wings are going to have to earn the division title far more than they've had to in recent seasons, but realistically this team isn't that different than the one that won the Cup a few seasons ago. Out: Hudler, Samuelsson, Drake In: Bertuzzi, Williams, Eaves, May There's no arguing that those changes are pretty much a wash, and this team just needs to push through. They will. Losing Franzen though is going to force Bert, Williams, Filppula, Cleary and Homer to take a big step up. Sidenote: Those calling for McCrimmon's head....its hard to argue given the amount of time he's had to make his impact........he flat out hasn't. You do realize Lidstrom isn't 32 anymore, right? Have some realistic expectations.

12/17 this early in the season....I'll take that any day.

Even better. :nonono:

Great argument (/sarcasm) considering he continues to step up time after time in the playoffs when it matters *for this team.* Yes he struggled last season, but other than that there's nothing to argue with against the success of his overall career. Name another goaltender with as much playoff success that's still playing in the NHL. Are you kidding with this statement? So, other than the game against the Hawks you're going to state his performance has been awful in the all of 2 other games he's played in? Game one he was definitely not his best, but Oz was beyond solid last night! What game were you watching? So that makes two out of three solid games, but according to you besides the CHI game he's been garbage in that "massive" sample pool you're referring to?

Probie, are you in Canada or the US? If you're in the US the CenterIce feed will be blacked out regardless if TSN is picking the game up.

[GDT] 10/2 - Blues 4, Red Wings 3 (Stockholm)
NeverForgetMac25 replied to The Mule's topic in General
And that is why I took a half day today. I can't fathom missing the first game of the season for the Wings. -
Well...turn off the lights and don't forget to lock up. See you guys next Fall.

Wow....what's the toughest pill to swallow out of all this is that my wife and I switched to DirecTV simply so we could get NHL Network which was pulling games from CI. We figured DTV was the best way to go because it covered everything. Now, if all Satellite providers can't work it out with Versus, then it will force us to miss atleast a portion of the games every year. It's sad when you think about the fact that I do anything, and pay whats requested in order to get every game, and I'm still unable to get all the games.

You won't get to see any Wings games that are on Versus. They'll all be blacked out on CenterIce. Why not look at Dish? That's what I'll end up doing after this season if this isn't resolved by then.

Fun Game...great way to cap off the preseason!

Tic-Tac-Toe...that was pretty!
