Does anyone know what kind of protecting net they use behind the goalies. It's tough to decipher. The noise the puck makes as it ricochets off it sounds as weird as chain nets in basketball. Sweet, but different.

It's also weird to see goalie freezes and have no one pushing and shoving. Very un-NHL.

Aussie_Wing normally does the regular season. I do the playoffs game.

The Wings currently have slightly over $16 million in cap space next year *using this years' cap number (which won't be accurate next year)* and they only have 13 players (7 Offensemen, 4 Defensemen, 2 Goalies) under contract. Given the cap is likely to drop a fair amount, that's not exactly a ton of cap space at all. As other have mentioned, Lids' pay will play a significant role in what Kenny can and can't do.

While I don't disagree that it was a mistake on Bab's part naming Legace the starter when he did, Ozzie's health played a pretty significant role in Manny getting (and keeping) the nod. It's also the reason he didn't come in when they struggled out of the gate. Babs had no problem putting arguably one of the greatest goalies of all-time on the bench when the season was on the line. I don't think he would've hesitated to put in Oz had his health been where it needed to be.

But that won't get us anywhere if Ozzy goes down in the playoffs. That being said, things are quite different then they were when Oz and Legace were competing for the number 1 billing in 05/06. Oz was in the midst of completely changing his style while Legace continues to be a positional goaltender who is 3 years older and less confident.

GMR, don't derail the thread with this overly-stated opinion. To the 5-6 of you that constantly bring up the toughness issue when the thread wasn't regarding that: use this as your warning.

That's not what I was asking. What I meant was do you truly believe DirecTV losing Versus is going to be some massive hit for the NHL? According to MadManMark, 16 million people subscribe to DirecTV, so lets take that number. There's a little more than 303 million people that live in the United States, so a little more than 95% of potential viewers won't have anything to do with this. Now, of the 16 million that subscribe to DirecTV, I guarantee no more than 2% of them care about hockey at all or even know what Versus network is. So, basically 320,000 households may be affected by this, and 50% of those households are likely indifferent. The NHL isn't going to bat an eye over losing 160,000 or so Versus viewers. That's my point. Sidenote: I feel like Eva Unit Zero with this last post.
