There's always room for a player that can stand up for his teammates and drop the mits from time to time. Goons as whole in this league aren't the make-it or break-it for a Stanley Cup winner. That's my only point. I'm not under the impression that "they're just ******* goons, who cares right" (as you put it), but I also don't overestimate their worth. There's a difference between making an impact and a significant impact. The guys BeeRYCE listed at best make an impact. No more.
-
He said significant, not barely noticeable. Calling someone a "crazy prick" or stating that "no one screws with Boorgard" is your inflated opinion of an enforcers' worth.
-
Woah, woah, woah BeeRYCE. Easy on the logic.

Yeah...a goon clearly is what the Wings need to secure the cup this season. [/sarcasm] Jesus

At Present Time Lidstrom Doesn't Plan to Retire after 09-10 Season
NeverForgetMac25 replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
That's understandable within reason....as we both agree on. If the Cap stays relatively similar to where it is now, the Wings will gain a decent amount of cap space given Lids dropping his salary by $2.45 (given a $5 million annual salary) along with Homer's $2.25 and Maltby's $0.883. I agree though, the '10/'11 cap number will greatly determine Lids' paycut. Sidenote: I've left out Lilja's cap space along with Lebda's due to that money likely being taken by replacement D personnel. QFT -

Exactly, which is why $5 million isn't unreasonable one year from now. Don't get me wrong, Lids' character is second to none but it wouldn't be shocking to see him take $5 million, while $4 seems like an amazing stretch. It'd be great if he signed for $4, because we all know he's essentially in the drivers seat (within reason), but Kenny and Co. will take care of Lids the way he's taken care of them. -

The key to this thread and the Hudler situation as a whole. -

The thought of Lids signing at even a modest pay around $5 million next summer makes me salivate. -
Hossa's contract won't help next season (10/11, not 09/10)....that was my point.

I'm sure Blackhawks fans are gonna love hearing this given the cap situation their team is going to be in next year.

NHL Network's Top Shootout Goals of 08-09 Season

Well by rule, any move where the puck is forced in a direction away from the blueline (aside from the spin-o-rama) including toe-drags that infract are considered illegal and need to be waved off. Now that being said, I've seen so many gray area moves that are let go simply because its too close to confirm (100%) the puck was brought backwards. TBH, that's one area I wouldn't mind seeing reviewed in case there's a close call. -

Interesting. I must've thought all backward motion with the puck was illegal due to sportscasters making comments regarding legality of the Foresberg-move. So in other words, the puck *can't* move backwards *unless* the spin-o-rama move is used, which is considered continued motion. Damn technicalities. -

Rule 30.a The Referee shall ask to have announced over the public address system the name of the player designated by him or selected by the Team entitled to take the shot (as appropriate). He shall then place the puck on the center face-off spot and the player taking the shot will, on the instruction of the Referee, play the puck from there and shall attempt to score on the goalkeeper. The puck must be kept in motion towards the opponent's goal line and once it is shot, the play shall be considered complete. No goal can be scored on a rebound of any kind (an exception being the puck off the goal post, then the goalkeeper and then directly into the goal), and any time the puck crosses the goal line, the shot shall be considered complete. See above. -

Blake's goal shouldn't have counted. It looks like he brings the puck back during his spin-o-rama. -

Disappointing number 1, but a decent list nonetheless. -
Hossa: "Its great to be in a hockey town."
NeverForgetMac25 replied to xtrememachine1's topic in General
Unbelievable.....5 pages devoted to a guy simply stating he's excited to be playing in/for Chicago and the masses can't see the comment for what it is. It wasn't a slight on Detroit, stop making it out to be. -
Fabulosity from Chris Osgood.
-
I agree with everything you said except for Pittsburgh fans having a reason to be upset with Hossa. They don't have one either.
-
QFT It's pathetic how quickly people turn on someone that decided not to finish their career off in Detroit. He owed Pittsburgh nothing more than he gave them, same goes for Detroit. Get over it, people.
-
Ah, nevermind then. Perhaps its decided by the owners in regards to travel as well as preferred matchups.
-
The past 2-3 years Minnesota has been the last team the Wings have played before Christmas. Not the case this year however.
-
I wouldn't be surprised if it had something to with final standings. Basically, final standings plugged into an equation that determines who the 3 bonus games will be against.
-
Ack....all of the Chicago Home games are on Sunday night, while both Minnesota games are mid-week. Sucks to be me. Oh well, I can deal with 3 rough Monday mornings.
