4/15/09 GDT: Around the NHL Round 1 Game 1

Pretty poor shot selection for Green. He pauses, sees 4 guys clearly covering all net-corner angles, and fires anyway. Here's a crazy idea....pass it down low and set up for the one-timer. -

I just rewatched the goal. Theo was positionally correct (especially given the 2-on-1) and Dubinsky just put it where Momma keeps the peanut butter. No chance for Theo. Doesn't change the fact that I still think he's not the guy to lead a Cup team. -

The second goal I don't think he had a shot at, nor the goal he just allowed. However, we both agree that Theo is not the guy that's gonna lead a team to the Cup. -

BTW, what's holding Washington back is gonig to end up being Theodore. The may single-handedly win a series, but he's never going to be consistent enough to win for two straight playoff months. -

All 3 games for me. WSH/NYR is looking like a classic finish. I was just telling my wife I'm fired up for 5-on-5 OT hockey. Especially double and triple OT. -
In other words......no more bets.

Blue Jackets doing their homework for Wings -- literally
NeverForgetMac25 replied to titanium2's topic in General
Now would be the time to post that mindless dribble some posters here are known for. No names mentioned. -
This was one of the reasons I switched to DirecTV last year. Sounds like TimeWarner in my area did add NHLN earlier in the season, but I know there's still plenty of areas where cable subscribers don't get the Network. I'd be uber-pissed if that was the case for me, especially in the playoffs.

Don't quote me on this, but I think this will affect the Blackhawks and Calgary fans that don't get local programming rather than the Wings or Blue Jackets fans. IIRC, they'll play the Wings/BJ's game in entirety and then cut to the Blackhawks/Flames game at the conclusion. Just imagine if the Wings game goes to OT. No viewing outside of the local area for CHI/CAL fans.

Agreed. He's the epitome of Captain Obvious. I.E. Pierre McGuire: So Nick (Lidstrom), you've done it...does this prove that a European can captain a team to the Stanley Cup? If it were me I would've said, "what do you think dips***?" I hate questions that everyone knows the answer to. Why bother asking it?

Important: Please don't forget to make picks for both Conference Champions along with your Stanley Cup Champion.

So BJ fans how do the playoffs work in hockey?

Can't win 'em all.

That was worth 1 Bonus point to the first one to point it out. Thanks

It's truly a comforting feeling knowing in the split seconds it takes for my browser to open the link that I don't have to worry about seeing Mick McGeough on the list.

41 regular season games or 1 game in the Finals guarantees your name on the Cup. Also...your team has to win the Cup.

I never said that Leino wouldn't step up, I said that Helm did step up and he turned out to be a great contributor to the Cup run last year. On top of that, of course every Red Wing will raise their level play (once again, I never said they wouldn't) but again given *this current* Red Wings team Helm based solely on the type of player he is will be more beneficial. I'm not worried about what Helm will do in the offensive zone, I am concerend about what Leino will do in the defensive zone. Agreed, but I feel Helm's relentless forecheck will be more effective than Leino's ability to hold on to the puck when it comes to controlling play and limiting the number of overall chances of Columbus. European rink/style-of-play versus NHL playoffs.....Apples to oranges. Agreed

Leino hasn't touched the ice during the playoffs and has no first-hand experience how much of a grind it is. Helm does, and stepped up his game last year throughout the run. It would be naive to think the Blue Jackets aren't going to ramp up their game and forecheck the hell out of the Wings. If that's the case, Helm will be more effective than Leino given defense is going to win this series. I'm sorry, but I don't agree that Leino will "keep the puck on his stick". This the playoffs, not mid-season. Teams fight for every inch, and *on this Red Wings team* which is full of point scorers, I'll take someone on the bottom pairing that kept the puck out of the Wings net all last post-season over someone that's never played a second of playoff hockey. If the goal scoring turns out to be a problem after a couple games, you'll hear no argument from me to insert Leino in over Helm, but until that happens Darren is the guy to go with.

You know you can re-pick after each round?
