added 2:39pm, via the Denver Post, The Avalanche is expected to announce this afternoon the re-signing of captain Joe Sakic to a new contract. The contract, expected to be a one-year deal, was agreed to in principle over the weekend between the Avs and their longtime leader, an NHL source confirmed.
