The Selke trophy in particular is a spectator trophy and that's all there is to it. Takeaways count sure, but those stats can be a bit inflated due to takeaways in the offensive zone. I mean guys can steal pucks in the offensive zone all they want, but does it mean they're remarkably responsible in their own end? Not always. The Selke trophy is a spectator trophy and that's all there is to it. Sure you can include +/- and PK efficiency, but there are still variables. A player's name who hasn't come up (or at least I don't think) is Mike Richards... Ever watch this dude play? He gives it his all everywhere, every shift. Same goes with Alfredsson. If takeaways is such a factor, then why are guys like Maxim Afinogenov and Joe Thornton up there in that stat? They will never win a Selke in any lifetime. Why hasn't Mike Fisher's name come up either? I'm not excusing Kesler and Datsyuk, because yes, they could be the front runners... But not on lock. They are top two in takeaways is that why? Richards Alfredsson Fisher Zetterberg Burrows Callahan M. Koivu J. Staal Toews ... some guys to consider And yes, I wouldn't have a hard time knowing Crosby would be getting votes. WATCH HIM PLAY, he is a workhorse in both ends. When it's all said and done, I'd love to see Datsyuk get another one, he's one of my faves... But at the same time, Mike Richards deserves equal consideration, and it's unreal to see his name not mentioned.

I'm obviously not too happy with the content, but the OP is hilarious. It's okay, Canada will beat Germany today, and once that happens, it'll be like Canada/USA never took place! Whole new ball game my friends, whole new ball game.

So what's this... Basketball and Football we have gun charges, Baseball we have illegal steroid scandals, and the NHL is known for DUI's and public intoxication?
-
I remember seeing a guy in the NCAA try it. Saw it on YouTube, I think he scored though.

I don't know if this idea was mentioned yet, but I'd say they should get rid of the NHL all star game and change it in to "NHL vs KHL Weekend". It would have more meaning to it.

All home team network announcers are homers in some way or another. Hell, on a "homer scale" of 1-10, I'd rank a solid 9 for the FSN Detroit announcers, but whatever, we all love Mickey.

There's no reason to not have Parise on the top line however way you work it out.

Will Ovechkin Win His Third Straight Hart Trophy?
BeeRYCE replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Hey bud, I have no intention of turning this into a Crosby/Ovechkin debate. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure 90% of hockey fans say AO is better, so the argument is very invalid. The only ones around here who pick Crosby > Ovechkin are me and Carman. Let's just say Crosby/Ovechkin together, re-revolutionized the game. Nowadays we can have this debate, and proudly consider one of them two the best. Before when there was no Lemieux or Gretzky a leading the way as generational players, we had Sakic, Forsberg, Jagr, Iginla, etc. to debate on. Ever since 05/06 we have found ourselves two guys that can lead a generation of hockey, when before we had a bunch of players in the mix for "best in the world" status. So, I'll leave it at that. -
I remember the big ass Subway ad they did at MSG. I don't know about you, but if I'm watching a hockey game with a few beers, and I see a Subway ad... 1st intermission, I'm going to Subway and getting my hands on a big fat sangwich.

2010 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - March 3rd, 3:00 PM ET

Nice job to Chicago getting Johnsson. Great veteran defenseman who just needs a new atmosphere... He has the ability to produce, and has the brains of a Nicklas Lidstrom (just not the skill . -
Nabokov stole the game last night - focus on the positives
BeeRYCE replied to stevkrause's topic in General
ATTN: RUSSIA'S DIFFERENCE MAKER. Nabokov's play will either give Russia gold, or no medal at all. My word, he will be crucial. If he plays great, Russia wins gold... If he plays good, Russia wins silver or bronze... If doesn't play good, Russia is out of medal contention. Just my thoughts. -
Off topic, but did anyone see Torts flip out on Del Zetto last night. Torts is the epitome of hothead.

The only NHLer that really fits that criteria is Milan Lucic.

Will Ovechkin Win His Third Straight Hart Trophy?
BeeRYCE replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
It looks like a yes, but unfortunately that might put a lock on my Crosby over Ovechkin debate I like to pull... I still think Crosby's better, but I won't have much to argue about if he wins another MVP. -
Goals is a possibility, but doubtful. A lot of people expect Ovechkin's career to be cut short... But if he were to play 20 seasons, he could average 45 goals per season his entire career, which adds up to 900... So it's possible that Ovechkin could break Gretzky's goal record, unless as I say, his career gets cut short. I think there is a possibility of Crosby getting 2000 points though. I think he'll last 22 seasons (retiring at 40) averaging 90-100 points. For him to get 2000 points, he'd have to average about 91 points per season, which is very possible. Let's assume the following were to play 1487 games in their respective careers (which Gretzky played)... - Crosby would be on pace for 2013 points - Ovechkin would be on pace for 2006 points - Malkin would be on pace for 1846 points I doubt none of which will maintain the same pace for their entire careers. Things will start slipping the last 5-7 years of their careers. I think it's very unlikely though for both feats... If Ovechkin kept up the same pace for a career of 1487 games, he'd wind up with 1035 goals, but for one, I don't think he'll play that many games, and two, if he does, he definitely won't keep up the same pace as he gets older.

When I played hockey, I preferred LW as a right hander to get that better angle shot. I actually never understood the purpose of lefties playing LW and righties playing RW... All in the sole purpose that coming from the side you shoot, gives you virtually nothing to shoot at, and the only way you're making a great play is if you toedrag it deep in the zone everytime. I guess you can get good passes off from that angle though.

If this was a salary dump, ok... But all that really happened was 800K was dropped, that's peanuts. If we got something in return, sweet... That didn't happen either! I'm a lost man.

If I said the OP's post fast, it's sound like Peter Griffin gets to play in the Olympics...
-
For many many hockey fans this has gotta be one of the most hated twosome in any picture ever. Also, I knew Chris Douchebag was tall, but never thought he was that much taller than Bertuzzi... I mean, Bertuzzi's 6'3", I thought Pronger was like 6'4"... He looks 4 inches taller in this pic.
-
I think them two will be on a line, but you can't forget how good Heatley - Getzlaf - Nash was at the Worlds... That line would be a good second PP unit, followed by something like Thornton - Crosby - Iginla, great two PP units.
-
I always thought Getzlaf was pretty good looking... I mean he looks like a crocodile, but yeah Perry DOES look like that annoying recess kid that everyone hates.
-
I always liked Afinogenov, and I always wanted the Wings to pick him up for cheap as a UFA, but yeah, now he'd be harder to get... It wouldn't be bad though. Kozlov? Yeah, he's still good too, hell maybe better than he was with the Wings. Pick him up, a decent clutch playoff guy, why not?

Add to Brodeur's legacy.... Another cup.

KHL is a Russian league, but not every player is Russian... and yes, LOL at Simon being there. I thought the KHL was almost on the same level as the NHL, so much for that thought...

Really? I believe ya, but I honestly don't remember the other time.
