why can't the NHL have a salary cap like baseball?

You REALLY need to change your avatar/signature. -
My estimate is a long term contract with a cap hit similar to Phaneuf's.

Yeah, he looks like he's from Whoville.

Red Wing - Lebda and Helm... I have never really looked at Hossa as being all that fast, he kind of moves in the zone with Jagr-esque power and dangles without having to use speed. Maybe he is fast, but there is no evidence that really convinced me he is significantly fast. NHL - Raymond, Cogliano, Gaborik, Bouwmeester, Marleau, and Lombardi.

I think they should. I mean the advantages are that you get to see players from the same team face one another. It is also a good way to portray how internationally popular the game of hockey really is. I mean the reason why the MLB, NFL, and NBA play conference vs conference or league vs league is because they are as internationally diverse as the NHL is, and I feel a North America vs World format would be sicker to watch... Two styles of hockey going one on one with each other. Let's put it this way, would you rather see... Malkin, Crosby, and Ovechkin vs Thornton, Iginla, and Datsyuk Or... Malkin, Ovechkin, and Datsyuk vs Crosby, Thornton, and Iginla ??? I would choose the latter personally. I just wanted to see if I was the only one who wants to see North America vs World format come back alive again. With a 12-11 result of the East vs West game, obviously that format is pretty even... But I think more entertaining play would still come out of NA vs World.

You know what, screw it... I hate the guy, but deep down inside this comeback made me respect him. I still hate him, but respect is there. It's been 6 years... He's 43... I'm watching this game and he actually has a presence. I mean he's accomplishing hits, keeping up with plays, and all that. Don't be too shocked if he wins Masterton.

Last year I think Datsyuk didn't really understand the concept of it... He just went in, scored and tried to score and didn't really do anything out of the ordinary. The fans booed and he was hella confused.

The Wild logo is definitely one of the best in the league.

If the awards were handed out today, how would it look? I'd say... Hart - Evgeni Malkin Vezina - Niklas Backstrom Calder - Steve Mason Norris - Dan Boyle Selke - Mike Richards Adams - Claude Julien Byng - Zach Parise Masterton - Steve Sullivan New crop of award winners I must say, but it looks like it could bring on much debate.

In the NHL, we have high end qualities in terms of... Best defenseman - Lidstrom Best coach - Babcock Best work ethic - Cleary Best GM Best scouting staff Best ownership Best passer - Datsyuk Best two way forwards - Datsyuk and Zetterberg Quickest shot release - Hossa (Ovechkin, Kovalchuk, and Heatley all may have more lethal wrist shots, but Hossa gets his off the quickest) Best puck possession team Two of the best ten all time players - Howe and Yzerman I can't think of more right now, but there is.

He's making a strong case for best ever... and he's one good season away from being the best ever in most opinions.

Whoops, didn't see there was already a thread like this at the bottom of the page... Sorry folks.

It's debatable considering he leads the league in both SV%, GAA, and shutouts on a team like Columbus, but considering Backstrom is just below Mason in all those categories with more wins and having starting 10 more games... I gave Backstrom the nod. I don't know though, picking the Vezina was difficult... It would be much more easier had Brodeur and/or Luongo stayed healthy.

Where do you want the next Winter Classic be?
BeeRYCE replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
Toronto/Montreal would be the best ideal match up no matter where it is. -
How else do you defend yourself from a goon like Andrew Peters?

All in all, Chelios was the better player, he was far more complete. Chelios and Stevens were even equal defensively (in both the their primes), but Stevens just did it in a more physical way. Now Stevens did have an offensive upside, but not nearly as effective as Chelios' upside. The only reason I would have Stevens over Cheli is the fear that Stevens would able to send over to the other team... I think Cheli was equal or better than Chelios in every aspect except for physicality and maybe leadership, but that's only because Stevens was a notorious superb leader compared to Chelios' very good leadership.

Luongo playing? Komisarek, Markov, and Kovalev starting? More ugly looking things on that page... The starting line-up should be voted after the all stars are named by the GMs are whatever. It should be, the official all stars are placed on a page and fans vote for the official all stars, not a bunch of random players.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Leafs ended up with Bertuzzi eventually.

Who will be the most successful when it's all said and done? In terms of most Norris trophies, All Star games, Stanley Cups, and other various awards collectively. EDIT: Sorry, I hit enter post too early.. It was supposed to be a poll, but it can't be now... So the choices are... Dion Phaneuf Drew Doughty Zach Bogosian Victor Hedman Erik Johnson

No, early to mid November actually.

It's been like 2 months since people were criticizing Raffy... Things have changed.
-
The thought of him teaming up with Stamkos in Tampa is an unbelievable thought, but if Tampa has 1st pick, it would be in their best interest to draft Hedman instead.

Malkin is underrated, I honestly think the most underrated in the league... Even considering everybody who knows hockey knows he's good, but people just don't acknowledge how great he is. People put Ovechkin and Crosby ahead of him, while at this point, there's no reason to not say he's right up there with them, but then people rate Iginla, Heatley, Thornton, Datsyuk, and Zetterberg ahead of him... and there's no way that is the case. Malkin is such a blissful player, he's really slick, and he has moves like Mario Lemieux and skates like a mid 90's Sergei Fedorov, he's amazing.

12 year old girl?... I remember being 12 in grade 7 and talking about more sicker things than I do today, let alone "sloppy seconds."
