Don't want to underestimate Phoenix anymore, they are hotter than MTL at the moment and with Bryz, they are one of the NHL's hotter teams.
-
I can't see that happening. Yes, the Joe would explode with his presence, but once he doesn't play up to expectations, then everything would die. The Wings are more for winning games and not being a nostalgic gimmick. At the end of the day, there are guys in the minors that would be more effective than D-Mac, so bringing him back is pointless.
-
Why do they have to build a new arena? Honestly. They can fix up the Joe, but more importantly, with the new arena I won't be able to drive down Riverside Drive in Windsor after work and be able to see the people piling in anymore. I love the idea of being able to see the Joe from where I live.

I doubt he was "sad" at the moment. Like while he was sitting there, I highly doubt his emotions were "man, I wish I was down there playing, I wish this all didn't happen to me." I mean I'm sure he thinks those thoughts sometimes, but I assume his apparent "sad" look was just him focusing in on the game he was there to watch. Don't get me wrong here though, I do feel sorry for the guy, but he is still one step above the average person, and has more money than the average person. If he can go to all these sporting events, and still remain in the public eye, I'm sure he isn't doing that bad for himself.

How about we keep Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Lidstrom and not worry about too highly priced other big names? Capiche? However, Jagr would be a pretty good presence, just not affordable in a salary cap world. I wouldn't mind seeing him in Chicago though, to play with his buddy LANG.
-
Runner ups in brackets. Hart - Lecavalier (Zetterberg, Kovalchuk) Norris - Lidstrom (Rafalski, A. Markov) Byng - Alfredsson (Zetterberg, St. Louis) Selke - Zetterberg (Alfredsson, Brind'Amour) Calder - Kane (Toews, Enstrom) Vezina - Leclaire (Lundqvist, Biron) Adams - Nolan (Not usually runner-ups in this category, but Babcock and Lemaire)
-
Because there are a little bit more productive sportsmanlike players in the league right now, come season's end though, I could see a three-peat.
-
I think it's really good because now anti-Wing jerkoffs won't be all "you guys are only good because you're in an easy division" this and that.

If Jason Blake can score 40, I don't see any reason Homer can't.

Sakic and Yzerman are apples and oranges, I just like oranges better. You can't say the two cup winning Avs teams weren't stacked either, the 95/96 team not as much, but the 00/01 team? That team was pretty nuts. The edge I'd give to Sakic when it comes to the two is the fact that Sakic has been an offensive threat longer than Stevie was.
-
Yes, but Stevie himself looked up to Trottier. Sakic is a good player, former MVP, playoff MVP and other awards, but it's very hard to put him over Yzerman. Yzerman single handedly turned a franchise around in the early 90's turning the "Dead Wings Era" directly to the "Yzerman Era." At this point, Yzerman had a longer career, and if it wasn't for his injuries, he probably would have retired with a higher point per game than Sakic (in which Sakic has the edge on Yzerman as of now). I just see Yzerman as a better two way player, and not from a biased standpoint, but from a hockey enthusiast's standpoint. I guess you can put Sakic and Yzerman in whatever order you chose, I'd say Yzerman, but they are definitely the top two. With all that said though, I think Trottier should be ahead of Robinson, he has the slighter edge, IMO.

Pretty unanimous IMO. Pretty accurate list overall, although I'd probably put Thornton ahead of Henderson.

I'm always thinking about this, and in all honesty, we have a very good core. I assume by the point Lidstrom retires, we will still have Rafalski, and with Lidstrom retiring, it would leave us comfortable cap space. Zetterberg will probably sign a Datsyuk-esque contract, so things are looking good. Within the next 6 years, we will have Datsyuk, Rafalski, and more than likely Zetterberg, and I still have hope in us doing well with Howard. So building a team around those players alone leads to a solid future, with both Datsyuk and Zetterberg getting even better.

The funny thing is, this is even a possibility. The only reason I left out Osgood is because, well he only played half of the games and gets so many shots a game, but he has been playing his role way beyond even his own limits, just not "quarter season Vezina" calibur as other goalies have meant more to their respective teams than Ozzy has. I know this discussion will lead to a huge "Ozzy for Vezina" debate, but that's how it is. In summary, Osgood is like Backstrom last season.
-
The way I see it, coaches should be.. East - Ted Nolan West - Babcock for my own personal sake, but for a non homeristic point of view, I'd say Jacques Lemaire.
-
I'm honestly surprised that Z is ahead of Iggy. Not to say he isn't having the better year, but it's kind of surprising, and excellent.

Best for me - Detroit vs Montreal Best for the NHL - Any Original 6 match-up
-
Getzlaf is the Ducks best forward, at 5.5, it's a very fair price.
-
Wow at Crosby more than doubling Alffy.

It's simple, I'll list players that if they retired today or if they are just recently retired, would/should they be in the HOF? The players I'm listing are pretty much only players that would have people disputing. Remember, only consider if they retired today, not 5 years from now. Mats Sundin - Yes/No Eric Lindros - Yes/No Peter Forsberg - Yes/No Jeremy Roenick - Yes/No Rod Brind'Amour - Yes/No Mark Recchi - Yes/No Mike Modano - Yes/No Keith Tkachuk - Yes/No Chris Osgood - Yes/No Scott Niedermayer - Yes/No Brendan Shanahan - Yes/No Sergei Fedorov - Yes/No Rob Blake - Yes/No Alexander Mogilny - Yes/No Curtis Joseph - Yes/No Teemu Selanne - Yes/No Gary Roberts - Yes/No Nikolai Khabibulin - Yes/No Those are only the guys that may have disputes (some of course may be unanimous). I think the only true unanimous ones are Lidstrom, Chelios, Sakic, Brodeur, Hasek, and Jagr.

Call me a sadist, but I found the Ohlund slash hillarious.

Which former NHLer will make a successful full-time GM?
BeeRYCE replied to edicius's topic in General
Yeah, Stevie without question. Francis is a sharp one too. There's also other NHL players that I have seen in the NHL who look fairly intelligent. Joe Nieuwendyk, Cliff Ronning, Ken Daneyko, and Ray Ferraro are some names that I should through out there, and once Shanny retires, he could be a capable contender. -
Man I love this guy. First, he picks the Wings to win the cup last year, and without losing hope, he pretty much says their winning it this year, of course the '07 prediction didn't work out, but hey he's faithful. Along with the '08 prediction, he says Sundin will join the lineup and win the cup, making him an HOF shoe-in. I am currently watching NHL on TSN's Habs/Sabres pre-game and he announced the five best overall players in the game today. His list looked as followed... 5. Ryan Getzlaf 4. Sidney Crosby 3. Daniel Alfredsson 2. Vincent Lecavalier and at number one, his pick was none other than, you guessed it, Henrik Zetterberg! I love the guy and his Red Wing loving ways, it's just great to see that on Canadian TV.

On PACE for? Are you guys actually talking about that? Let's take a walk back to memory lane... Last season before the All Star break, as a team, we were doing great, but who was our best player? Not Zetterberg, not Datsyuk, but Cleary, and I'm talking statistically. The first half of the season Z and Dats were probably on pace for maybe 60 points each, and were each under a point per game. After the All Star break, Zetterberg had a 2 point/game average for I believe nearly 20 games before he got hurt, and Datsyuk was close to that. I'm just saying, projected stats mean diddly squawt. Sorry, not sure how relevant this rant was to the conversation, but I saw this talk about projected stats, and "on pace for", so I thought I'd throw that out there.

Something in me knew he would end up there. I kind of feel sorry for Auld, Tellqvist, and Aebischer though. Three good backups capable of starting a good 20-30 games a season, all bunched up and turned into nothing. Bryzgalov is a good pickup though, it won't help the other goalies on the team, but it will help the Coyotes as a whole.
