I still don't understand how one would put Yzerman over Gretzky on any list. Sure Yzerman was a leader, defensively sound, etc, etc. But untouchable numbers are hard to contend with. Gretzky is number 1 in every major category with all those numbers being untouchable.
-
Messier and Yzerman is like apples and oranges. Messier led vocally, Yzerman led by example. Both did it amazingly well.
-
Yeah, Paul Coffey was just a forward playing the point. He didn't even have any defensive awareness.
-
If you want to talk about respective eras, Richard is the cream of the crop. The era he played in wasn't meant for 100 point seasons, so on paper in comparison to the greats, he doesn't look great. However, you have to take in consideration, the era he played in. The Habs wouldn't have won as many cups without him. He was the best player of his time, and the toughest too. WHAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

Excluding goalies... 1. Gretzky 2. Orr 3. Howe 4. Lemieux 5. Richard 6. Yzerman 7. Esposito 8. Messier 9. Dionne 10. Bourque

Besides Canada, what country produces the best hockey players?

Sweden for now, but I have a feeling in maybe 5-10 years from now, we could say USA. -
Current NHL.com poll says that Markov is the front runner in terms of being the FA defenseman that would make the most impact to an NHL team. Surprising to me, not that I deny it, but just because I didn't know Markov was even that known and that respected. http://www.nhl.com/ Sorry, my bad. Should have known, thread about said topic already been made.

I predict: Hart - Crosby Art Ross - Crosby Richard - Ovechkin Selke - Zetterberg Byng - Datsyuk Norris - Lidstrom Vezina - Luongo Calder - Toews Adams - Therrien Jennings - Osgood/Hasek President's - San Jose Conn Smythe, Cup winners, etc, etc... TBD!

I knew someone would post this. It's total ignorance actually. I mean, in the spirit of fun, why not? Hell, I wouldn't even have a problem predicting things in 08/09. Also, it's not so much predicted awards as it is predicting topics like "who's going to be the best player", "who's going to be the most sportsmanlike", "best coach", "best goalie", etc, etc. Again, it's the spirit of fun. What's the difference of predicting these things now and september anyways? Nothing. Have some fun around here, take a break from the "Oh we need a second line scorer", "OMG WE NEED TO RE-SIGN MARKOV", and the "Eklund is an idiot~!!!~!" threads.

Phoenix. For fun actually. I look at the roster and practically gag. They have 23M in cap space, and did absolutely nothing in free agency. I don't know what their intentions are, but they are in desperate need of so many things. They have no trade bait, and there are no big free agents left except Forsberg, but he wouldn't go there. Their goalie as of now is Tellqvist. They better go exploring some RFAs, because their roster is sickening. I feel sorry for Wayne Gretzky, I really do.

He got his ass kicked though, somewhat. That fight was a joke, people called him Pain Train jokingly.

We could trade Lilja, we'll still have a scapegoat in Sammy.
-
I just don't want to sign any more defensemen because that would force Lilja to be the odd man out. Isn't it crazy that absolutely NOBODY hates Lilja anymore?
-
This deal was probably to make more breathing room to sign Emery. Good trade.

Boston has ALOT of fans internationally though. Where I live, all the favourite teams consist of Detroit, Toronto, and Montreal. Right behind them 3, lies Boston.
-
I could see the top 5 being something like... 1. Detroit 2. Boston 3. Rangers 4. Buffalo 5. Philly None of those were really surprising. In college football I would have thought Ohio State or Michigan, and in the NFL I would have thought Green Bay, Chicago, or Pittsburgh. Still, nothing unexpected there.

I don't think a brawl in 2001 would cause a 6-7 year feud. The best game of 06/07 was probably Montreal vs Pittsburgh... Maybe keep an eye out when them two play. However with Montreal being weaker and Pittsburgh being stronger, I don't know.
-
Oh, I know what they lost. They lost a President's Trophy... I'm pretty sure they will not get it. However, I can see them easily making the playoffs, and maybe battling Ottawa for top of the Northeast.
-
Buffalo? Them losing Briere and Drury enables guys like Vanek, Afinogenov, Stafford, Connolly, Pominville, Kotalik, etc, etc. to have better seasons. They are just too much in depth to suck. The only thing they lost is the President's Trophy, and I still consider it a little bit possible.

I just can't get behind any jersey with the number at the front. The home jersey looks like a basketball shirt though.
-
I'd take Exelby any day of the week. Carelessly nailing guys like Mats Sundin, hell yes! First choice for me is Avery. Pretty much any of those forwards really, except Hunter and Craig.
-
Chris Chelios will set him straight, no worries.
