I have no problems with a new team in Canada, at all, but if it's in just a small city in Ontario, come on. Kitchener is an awful place, and now talks are in Cambridge? Come on. Hamilton would be alright, but CAMBRIDGE?!

Good stuff. #17 in your draft, Lars Eller may go higher. Said to be the total package and is getting more recognition day by day.

March of '98. Blackhawks/Wings. They tied 5-5, and McCarty fought that night. I was so excited walking in, all estatic like IT'S STEVE YZERMAN! IT'S SERGEI FEDOROV. Keep in mind I was 9 years old, and OBSESSED.

EVERYONE WATCH THIS AND GO TO 1:10, YOU'LL SEE SOMETHING THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BY THE HUMAN EYE!

We have 27th overall, I wouldn't mind picking up this guy. 26. Lars Eller Position: Center Shoots: Left Date of Birth: May 8, 1989 Height: 6’-0†Weight: 198 LBS 06-07 League: Sweden Jr. 06-07 Team: Frolunda Jr. Stats: 39 GP 18 G 37 A 55 PTS Strengths: A good skater, Lars possesses that extra gear that is needed to be a goal scorer in the NHL Has a good shot selection and can score many different ways. Very quick, accurate wrist shot. Protects the puck well and is surprisingly strong. Plays an offensive game but can and will play both ways when needed. Rises up when put under pressure. Lars is not afraid to drive to the net or play in traffic areas. Plays the body whenever he can. Great attitude and work ethic. Has nice playmaking ability to compliment his finishing skills. Weakness: Not a lot of weakness in this player, if any. He could use more strength and maybe work on his foot speed, but like I said he is a very complete prospect without glaring holes. NHL Potential: First line scoring winger. Boom or Bust Potential: Low risk, will develop into one of the best players to come out of this draft. Extra Note: I like Lars a lot and think he could slip into the top 10 this June, one of the best Danish prospects in many years.

Cherepanov will crack top 5, and a highly possible top 3. I don't know though, what makes you think he won't go top 10?
-
Nobody knows what Cherepanov will do. He could be one of the best Russians or be another let's say Kovalev, which isn't bad. I doubt he will play in the NHL next season, but this season was his rookie season and he made some impressive stats. All according to Wikipedia, he got more points than Ovechkin, Malkin, or Kovalchuk did in their RSL rookie seasons, and then passed Bure's rookie goal scoring record. With those credentials, no one knows how identical he really is to Ovechkin, at least in terms of NHL potential. I watched this kid at the World Juniors though, and I must say, he was a stud. I look at him as probably another Kovalchuk, without the size, but maybe more speed, although Kovalchuk is fast. He's going to be an elite Russian nonetheless, but doubtfully another Ovechkin.

Yeah, it wouldn't be a bad acquisition, I just think if Markov and Schneider left, there would be better fish in the sea. Even UFAs like Sutton or Sarich. I wouldn't want to have to trade when there are other guys out there that are free agents.

I would love to paint my face. "LET'S GET IT ON!"

Serious Talks Of Expansion...And The Wings Moving East
BeeRYCE replied to Sleight's topic in General
I wouldn't mind a 32 team league. If the NFL can do it, we can too. -
Well good philosophy. Honestly I don't mind Colorado anymore. With guys like Lemeiux, Forsberg, Foote, and Roy off the team, they have become more of a respectable team. So, this time around if Colorado wins the cup, I will not be as bitter, and ultimately, I'll be looking forward to the Wings winning the following year.

I have never heard any rumours, but why would we want Vandermeer? He's a solid stay-at-home defensemen and that's far from what we're looking for. Chelios, Lilja, and (hopefully) Markov fit that description quite nicely. Never heard any rumours of this, but it wouldn't make any sense, even if we do lose Schneider and Markov. Plus Vandermeer's an RFA this season probably seeking a little more of a pretty penny.
-
Yeah, he'd be a good winger to complement Toews that's for sure. This draft actually concerns me alot because I'm a partial Hawks fan as well.
-
I live by what David Puddy always says... "Gotta support the team."
-
I'm not sure but didn't they settle for one? I mean, isn't that a big reason as to why Grigs is coming over next season? Regardless, whatever they'll have to do, Cherepanov is the real deal. I'm not sold on this Turris fella just yet.
-
I just can't get over the fact that a BCHL player is scouted as the #1 pick. Is this guy the real deal? I don't know, if I were Chicago, I'd pick Cherepanov.
-
A new owner will draw more fans to the arena? Can't see that happening.
-
Yeah, you can credit Pahlsson/Niedermayer/Moen for shutting Heatley down.
-
Good point. With that said, Yzerman was the one who deserved it in '98 though.
-
It's hard to debate whether they would have or would have not won without Pronger. The Ducks were under .500 without Pronger during the regular season, but were 2-0 without him in the playoffs. If they didn't pick him up last offseason, would they have ended up 2nd place in the West? Probably not. Would they have made it to the playoffs? Without a doubt. With their playoff appearance, would they have won the cup? Who knows, but Beauchemin proved that he is worthy compensation for Pronger's absence, and I firmly believe that they would have had a shot without Pronger. Pronger was effective, but you got to wonder how effective he was. I'm wondering if he would have won Conn Smythe had he not been suspended those two games, and I'm considering that would have been the case.

Emery never really played bad IMO. Most of Anaheim's goals were flukey and/or due to deflections.
-
Atlanta really did get the better end of the deal when Ottawa threw De Vries in too. I think Heatley and Hossa are virtually the same player with same abilities and same potential. Heatley for Hossa straight up would have been a better trade, but Ottawa getting Heatley never hurt the least bit. He's arguably the best pure goal scorer in the game today.

If ESPN cared about hockey, then it would be more popular. Alot of people are too ignorant to have the willpower to watch hockey, maybe because it's a Canadian game, or whatever. This would really help if ESPN cared, it would draw more people to watching hockey highlights and ultimately the game itself, but no, ESPN spends more time focusing on the NFL offseason than the NHL playoffs.

Giggy not winning MVP probably has something to do with him not playing the first few games. Also, he was only 8th in SV%. I think he would have been a good choice, but not the best. The MVP was Pahlsson in my eyes. McDonald only really showed up in the finals.

Odds are Matty will be staying here and retiring here, and I don't have one problem with that. If Markov AND Matty leaves, then yes, let's target on a De Vries, Rafalski, or even a Kimmo Timonen, but we have enough steady young D-men to not worry about it.
