3/14 GDT: Predators @ Red Wings

Couldn't have asked for a better outcome from this two-game series.

Hasek Out 2 Games With Thigh Injury

Gee, I wonder why that is. Anyways, I hope Dom takes as much time as he needs to heal this up, even if it means sitting out more than two games. Ozzie's more than capable of holding the fort until he come back.

    Jakub Kindl

Yeah, I was at the game too. Kindl must've played at least half the game last night. Not only was he out there every other shift, but on a number of occasions he played the entire duration of two minute power-plays. He just doesn't seem to get tired; his skating reminds me of Nick Lidstrom just a little bit. The Hockey News just released their annual prospects issue, which listed Kindl as the top prospect in our system, and the 25th best prospect in the league. He's certainly made improvements from last season. I personally would like to take him along slowly, but Jakub should probably at least get an oppurtunity to make the Wings next season.

OFFICIAL: Todd Bertuzzi a Red Wing

All depends on how he performs in the playoffs IMO. At the moment he looks like just a rental to me, because the Wings seem intent on resigning Datsyuk, so we have to keep that cap space open.
  6. I feel Lou is suggesting that he wanted Holland to go out and get someone who would be capable of standing up for his teammates once in a while, as this has been a problem with the team all season.
  7. The acquisition of Bertuzzi makes me a little more receptive towards the acquisition of Kyle Calder last night. I was a little concerned that Holland felt we were all set for the playoffs, and that there was no need to go out and get a guy like Bertuzzi. Anyways, Kenny took a pretty big risk on Bert, but I feel it's a risk worth taking. I'm much more satisfied with what he accomplished this trade deadline as opposed to what he did last year.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

The only thing Kyle Calder brings to the second line is a new face. Who knows, though, maybe that will help. But I really don't think one can look at this deal and say that the Wings have really improved their secondary scoring. I wonder if Cleary's injury prompted this move.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Maybe you're just vastly underrating Jason Williams' worth. In all seriousness, though, it's not like I'm pissed off with this deal. In fact, I like it even more than the Cory Cross deal at last year's deadline. But if all this move is supposed to be is a salary dump, I'm not a big fan of the timing of it.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Chicago seemed to think he was worth something, no? And they made the deal straight up. I'm certainly not suggesting Williams would help us land Bill Guerin, but packaged with a couple picks, why couldn't he be swapped for a tough fourth liner that would help this team?

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

If there's anything Jason Williams was good at, it was the shootout. I'm not saying I wanted him on this team or anything, but you've got to give credit where credit is due.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

That's not what I meant. If the Red Wings don't want to pay Jason Williams his 1.6 million next season, then they could just dump him for a pick at the season's end. I just don't understand why you'd ship him out now for a player who brings no more to the table, when Williams is a tradeable asset for someone who could actually help this team for a playoff run.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

Although I realize this, I feel that's the kinda move you'd make at season's end as opposed to the trading deadline when you're gearing up for a Stanley Cup run.

Wings acquire Kyle Calder in 3-way deal

I'm not sure that I particularly understand this deal. I realize Jason Williams' time in Detroit was drawing to a close, but I don't know what Kyle Calder really adds to our lineup. He's been just as weak offensively as Williams has this season, and I can't possibly imagine him scoring many goals with Robert Lang as his centre. But as others have mentioned, I'm glad to finally have J-Will off the point. I didn't think he was as useless as some people here seem to believe, but honestly, having him quarter-back our power-play never made sense to me at all. I'm not saying I'm upset over this deal, but it just doesn't seem like this will strengthen our lineup much at all for a Stanley Cup run.

    Hasek

You people have extremely short memories don't you? If it wasn't for Hasek the win streak would've ended against Chicago on Wednesday night. And furthermore, blaming the entire game on Dom's questionable goal is kinda stupid to me. There was zero defensive coverage on both Edmonton's first two goals. And even on the third goal, Reasoner would've been all alone against Hasek. I'm not a fan of Hasek's roaming either. It's gotten him burned a couple times this season, and more importantly, I'm afraid he's going to get hurt. I'd wish he'd stop it, but risk-taking is an element of the style that has worked for him for quite some time. What really ticks me off, though, is how in every Dominik Hasek thread, someone finds a way to take a cheapshot at Dom's character. His roaming is a result of "pure arrogance"? Honestly. I understand some of you do not like Hasek, and that's fine, but comments like that are just unreasonable.

    Preds and Habs --> Overtime

And Forsberg finishes the game with no goals, no assists, no points, and a minus 1. Let's hope we can get some distance between us and the Preds this weekend.

    Preds and Habs --> Overtime

I didn't even know Samsonov was back in the Habs lineup. Montreal really needs this game.

Lets keep things in perspective people

I don't particularly like Jason Williams, and I wouldn't mind seeing him get traded at all. But I'm with you Lou, Willy is simply not as bad as people say he is. I feel he's underperformed this season when he was expected to help replace Shanny, but honestly, you'd think he was capable of absolutely nothing the way he's talked about around here. And furthermore, can we drop the whole empty-net thing? I mean come on, it didn't come back to bite us, and he wound up scoring later on the play any way.

    2/17 GDT: @ Phoenix Coyotes, 9:00pm

Hard to believe he's never gotten a hattrick despite all the muti-goal games he's had over the past two seasons.

    Forsberg trade close

I wasn't a really big fan of getting Forsberg. He sure would've helped out that lethargic second line of ours, though I didn't think he would have been the cure to the "toughness" problems that have grabbed so much attention lately. But if he stays healthy, the division is essentially Nashville's. And I no longer think we could take the Preds in a seven-game series.

    LGW.com NHL Trade Tracker

TSN says that a deal appears to have gone down between Nashville and Philadelphia, and it's merely awaiting approval from the front office. It isn't a sure thing though.

    2/14 GDT: @ Dallas Stars, 8:30pm

Yeah, Ozzie kept it at a one goal game until we took over in the second half of the third. I just hope he can stay healthy now.

    2/14 GDT: @ Dallas Stars, 8:30pm

That second line has been laughable lately. Lang, Cleary, and Williams haven't gotten anything done at all. This is a win we really needed if we wanted to keep pace with Nashville. The Preds blew out the Sharks tonight.

    2/14 GDT: @ Dallas Stars, 8:30pm

No kidding. He's taken off this past few weeks. On TSN the other night they referred to Zetterberg as the best player in the NHL right now.

    MacDonald

I don't think many people see as him the future starting netminder of the Detroit Red Wings. I believe that title belongs to Jimmy Howard. MacDonald's merely here to back up Ozzie when he starts, and he's only starting now because of injuries to both our goalies. But yeah, after a solid couple of periods, Joey caved in the third.
