Detroit leads the league with a 25.0% PP success rate. Nobody's gotten even close to 40% in years.
-
Hey Jedi! You totally forgot to post who the three stars were. Much to our suprises, Ozzie was not one of them. (I'm just stirring the pot is all)
-
I can't blame Babs for starting Ozzie. He's always been good against the Stars. And playing a goalie fresh off the IR in three games in four nights is a good way to re-injure him. Especially when Manny didn't have the starting position locked down at all, really; though that may have changed today.

I knew I said I would stay out of this GDT. But I am just too friggin' opinionated to stay out of goalie debates. Anyways, NN, as I see it, Ozzie was great in the '98 Cup run. Sure he had the occasional bad game, but all in all, he played well enough to win. And despite what many say, you can't win the Stanley Cup without solid goaltending. In my mind, there's little debate over whether Ozzie played well in 1998; but what happened well over 7 years ago has little effect on how good of a goalie Ozzie is today. He is not the same goalie he was back then, not even close. Where do you see any mention of Osgood in my post? And to address your point. Osgood's cup in '98 was great and all but my view of him NOW is more caused by his play with the abyssmal Blues in '03-'04. He carried that team until they completely gave up on him in the playoffs. peace The post you were responding to was making an attempt to discredit the goaltending of Chris Osgood in the '98 Cup run, and I assumed you were coming to his defence (as you should have). And the play of Ozzie last season does not justify the lacklustre goaltending he's exhibited so far this year.

I'm packin' it in early from this GDT. No need for me to discuss this outing, though I feel the words "choke" and "job" sum up my feelings on this particular game quite well.
-
It's going to be a looooong couple of nights for me until we play the Canes. I want retribution for this garbage as soon as possible.
-
Yeah, they've been alright lately. But how can they follow up the huge win against Nashville with this crap? Just leave Manny in until he gives us reason to be pulled, I feel he's earned it by now.
-
He was put in three goals too late. The game's done.
-
Roloson massively outplayed Ozzie that night. This is going to be one of the toughest weeks of our entire schedule, and if we want to come out of it with some points, we cannot be allowing six unanswered goals. Babcock DO SOMETHING.
-
Thought I might correct your statement.
-
This blows. We needed this game; Nashville ain't losing to the Blackhawks tonight.
-
Agreed, the game is all but done. I'm confused, does Ozzie not want the starting job? He's played bad everytime he's had a little pressure from Jimmy or Manny this season.
-
Better luck on Tuesday Detroit. We play the Canes. Care to show up for the second half of the game?
-
He's playing his way out of the starting position methinks.
-
Is there a choking emoticon? Babcock, rip into these guys, now.
-
That'd be what the refs called it. Of course when you're absolutely itching to get the home team back into the game, roughing is a very common penalty to call.
-
How about that? Tonight's matchup has almost exactly followed the story-line of Dallas' 4-3 SO win against Anaheim the other night. Nice choke job Detroit. We really need to pick it up in the third.
-
Man, let's hope this game doesn't go the way of the Dallas vs. Anaheim game they played on Friday.

Somebody's earning his pay...

Interesting way to start off a period.

next seasons free agent signing priority #1

Yeah Redden and Cara likely would be out of our payscale and Jovo is just no the kind of guy we need. Off that list I like Kubina, Witt, Norstrom, and Markov. Maybe Mitchell or McKee. Big, sound, safe. peace The Sabres kinda waited to the last minute before they gave McKee a solid offer. But now, I don't think they'll want to let him go. He's been blocking shots left and right and has regained his form from seasons past. Jay would be great for the Wings though. As I stated before, I would love Mitchell. In him I think we could get what I had originally expected from Andreas Lilja; a big, strong defenceman who chips in a solid hit occasionally and keeps mistakes to a minimum. After this season, I say we dump Lilja, and sign the slightly more expensive Willie Mitchell. I bet Holland signs Lilja, I have a feeling they like his play. So unless Lilja leaves, count him in any scenario regarding defensemen You just can't let me be happy can you? But yeah, as sad as it is, you're probably right. Sports writers who have never once watched the Wings play this season are gushing over Lilja, saying Holland is a genius to have plucked him out of nowhere, merely because he has a high plus/minus. By the general hockey public, Andreas is regarded as a far better d-man than he really is. I wouldn't lose too much sleep if Lilja was re-signed as a depth d-man, but if he was brought back, Kenny might mistake him as a physical defensive defenceman yet again, and fail to pick up one of the many solid second pairing defencemen coming on the market this summer. -
Filppula was the game's first star. I have no idea why hockeysfuture.com continues to insist he's a future checking line player. He's not. If Val continues to adapt as well to the NA game as he currently is, I see him being a solid two-way presence on the Wings second line in a couple of seasons.

If Lidstrom re-signs, I think there's very little chance of us nabbing Redden or Chara. But one thing I noticed today when I watched the Sens-Habs game was that, in Alfredsson's absence, Wade Redden wore the "C". It wasn't a big deal at all really, but it may mean that the Sens are a little more committed to holding onto him than they are Chara. A lot of the UFAs I hoped the Wings could sign in the near future have been locked up to long term contracts. But if Witt is available, I'd love to get him. I've wanted that guy on the Wings for years. Brendan isn't going to scare opponents into submission like Konstantinov did, but he'd bring a real tough, physical edge to the blueline, which is something Detroit has lacked forever it seems. I'd love a top four of: Lidstrom-Kronwall, Schneider-Witt That would be as good as any team in the league next season. And does anybody know when Willie Mitchell hits the free agent market? IMO, he is a vastly underrated defender and is a hard worker on the blueline. He'd look great on second/third pairing.
