Well, his post-season stats with Buffalo this year were underwhelming, but at least Zubrus is considered to have "untapped potential" whereas most of us would agree that Lang's game is probably on the decline.
-
I probably would've taken him here for that kind of money. Not that I'm particularly upset by the fact that the Wings didn't get him.
-
Yeah, I'm totally aware of that, but we could really use his size on our second line. There's not a lot of options left, and if Zubrus could be had for cheaper than what we were paying Lang (though I wouldn't count on that), I say we go for it.
-
NHL.com has him at around 40% on the draw this post-season and I'm suprised it wasn't even worse. Some games it looked like he'd never taken a faceoff in his life. I didn't care much for Lang, but I do think he needs to be replaced. Our second line is looking a little sparse at the moment. I'm not totally opposed to the idea of signing Zubrus.

So Dom has a dynamite regular season and is a huge contributor in the playoffs (arguably our post-season MVP after Lidstrom), while Bert manages three goals in three rounds. But because he wants all of 500k less than Hasek, Bertuzzi is being fair while Dom is being greedy?
-
Really? Essentially every scouting service out there disagrees: TSN's Top 60 Draft Prospects I personally don't mind the Smith pick, whatsoever. The Wings obviously see something in him, and some scouts have him ranked a little lower than they should, merely because of the league he was playing in last year. But I would've probably been happier with us taking Petrecki, and I can't blame anyone for having a similar opinion.
-
I'll be honest, I kinda wanted Petrecki seeing as he was available at the 27th spot, but I am just glad that we drafted a defenceman. And having someone with speed and puck-carrying abilities from the back-end is always a good thing, so I'd say I'm satisified with us taking Brendan Smith. What I do find interesting is the fact that TSN's is the only prospect ranking that seems to have Smith listed as a potential first round draft pick. The Wings must really seeing something in him.
-
We're not exactly set when it comes to defencemen, either. McGuire points out how old some of the key contributors on our blueline are getting. And aside from Kindl and Quincey, I'm not totally sold on the rest of our defensive prospects to be able to step into the lineup anytime soon. If we did draft a forward, however, I'd like it to be a big centerman to replace what we lost in Shawn Matthias.

I think Bonderman's on the mound tonight looking to go 8-0.
-
Classy.
-
If there is one thing Hasek is not, it is predictable. Since our Stanley Cup in 1998, we have only gotten past the second round twice. Any guesses for who was in net for both these playoff runs? And I'd like to know if you had any better ideas for who our starting goalie for next season should be?
-
I call it the "Red Wing" effect.
-
We all knew it was only a matter of time before the true Andreas Lilja showed up. This is as bad a post-season loss as I think I've ever seen. I don't know how the Wings are gonna be able to take Game 6.
-
You just knew that when Lidstrom rang it off the post this was gonna happen. We had a half a dozen chances to put this game to bed and we didn't. The Wings are gonna be devastated going into OT. I'm more than a little concerned right now.
-
Unbelievable. We let these guys off the hook again. The Wings are doing it to themselves.
-
To question Hasek's performance last night and throughout these playoffs is one thing, but to actually question Dom's effort is sheer stupidity. The guy's practice habits are absolutely legendary, and all you hear about him is how much he hates letting pucks in behind him. Hasek's as competitive a goalie as there is in the game right now. And where were you following Games 1 and 3? I find it amusing that people like you only want to talk about Dominik Hasek after we lose.
-
I'm really frustrated that we let this game slip away. We were in control going in to the third, and failing to generate anything on that 5-on-3 did us in.
-
So you're basically saying that because Hasek gave up three goals on eight shots, it must be his fault, regardless of the fact that the first goal came as a result of a horrendous giveaway, the second one was deflected directly in front of him, and the third one came as a result of the Wings totally collapsing on a routine even-man rush. But yeah, you're right, it's probably easier to blame Dom.
-
Honestly, what is it you people want? The Wings absolutely collapse right in front of Dom, giving Selanne a brilliant chance, and it's his fault?
-
That's just crazy.

Anybody else think Scott Niedermayer looked like a homeless person in that press conference? Anyways, all Scott has to do is watch the replay if he's seriously wondering why the league is taking action against Pronger. The officials on the ice made a mistake not penalizing Pronger during the game, and now he's getting what he deserves for driving Holmstrom's head into the glass.
-
Sweet revenge for Holmstrom. Filppula appears to have gotten himself a spot on the first line.
-
I disagree. Niedermayer did hit Holmstrom from behind as much as Pronger did, but Niedermayer at least made an attempt to play the body, while on the replay you can see Pronger has his hands up with the sole purpose of driving Holmstrom's head into the glass. If he doesn't do that, I don't think Tomas gets hurt all that badly. It will probably be Rob Niedermayer facing the suspension, though, as I think the fact that he got the penalty places the blame on him.
-
Absolute garbage move by Pronger. It was clearly him who put Holmstrom's head into the boards, not Niedermayer. And then he gets his gloves and his stick up in Kopecky's face and whines when he's penalized for it. I'm getting tired of watching this clown.

You think Hasek fell into the net on the tying goal? Consider yourself ignored.
