WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

    What a wasted effort.

Yeah, that's kinda the point he was making.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

    Garbage, absolute garbage.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

Lebda redeems himself and draws a penalty. Nice use of his speed there.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

We must hate momentum or something. That penalty couldn't have been more pointless.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

What a good time to take a penalty.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

And we were finally back in this game.

WCF Game 2 (5/13): Ducks 4, Red Wings 3 OT

Well that puck is certainly in. What were we doing on that play?

What are we doing out there?

How long until we get Kronwall back?

In this post-season maybe, but previous to his performance in these playoffs, Lilja was known around here as a 6'-3", 230-pound softie who didn't use his size nearly enough. Kronwall on the other hand, has always played like a much bigger player than he is, and I think that's part of the reason he's run into injury problems.

How long until we get Kronwall back?

That simply isn't true. Kronwall was the best open ice hitter on our blueline this season (though you could also make a case for Markov), but injuries seemed to slow him down a little as the season progressed. We could really use Nik's speed on the blueline right now to help us against Anaheim's forecheck. Whether you like him or not, he was third among Detroit defenceman in icetime during the regular season, and with Schneider out for the post-season, it couldn't hurt to have Kronwall back to play the point on the PP. That being said, if Kronwall did come back, it probably wouldn't be at 100%, and we'd need him to get his timing back almost immediately, so I say let him sit unless it's really necessary.

Rumour: Liv accepted contract in Sweden

I think that would've been the case whether Liv left or not. Weren't we trying to draft Leland Irving in the first round last year?

Datsyuk in the Playoffs So Far

It seems that scoring in Game 1 helped to get the monkey off his back so that he could concentrate on playing his game. Beyond the offensive totals of Pavel, the defensive efforts of guys like him and Z have also been great, and have helped to lessen the blow of losing so many defenceman. Datsyuk has looked much different in this post-season than I remember from years past. That being said (and I'm not trying to be a downer here or anything) I would like to see Datsyuk, along with Zetterberg, get more done offensively on the road. If they can get it going away from the Joe, I really like our Stanley Cup chances.

Conn Smythe race for final four..

Some would indeed suggest that Dom let in a couple softies against San Jose, but the fact is, he hasn't allowed more than 2 goals in a game since Game 4 of our series against Calgary. That's what I call consistency. The Wings have a chance to win every night if Hasek can keep that streak up. If I had to choose right now, I'd probably go with Lidstrom. With Detroit blueliners dropping like flies, he's held the fort quite well, IMO.

    Off season....

Hasek's .913 save% put him 13th in the league, Belfour's .902 save% put him 30th. Care to explain how that makes them "close"? And looking past save percentage, Hasek basically destroys Belfour in every other single goaltending statistic. You can make all the speculations you want about how much better Eddie's stats would be had he played for the Wings, but that's all it is, just speculation. Yeah, and Dom's been a real hell-raiser this season hasn't he?

    Off season....

Call me crazy, but I wouldn't call Belfour's 2.77 GAA, .902 save%, 27 wins and 1 shutout comparable to Hasek's 2.05 GAA, .913 save%, 38 wins and 8 shutouts. Granted Belfour was indeed on a worse team, but his stats were neither comparable nor "more consistent" (whatever it is you mean by that). After his latest run in with the law, I can't say Eddie is somebody I want in our lockerroom next season either. And should the ability to play the puck really be one of the key deciding factors in whether we sign a goalie or not? If he stops pucks, who really cares?

    Suspend Thornton!

If you continue to post garbage like that, you won't last very long around here. Yes, what Thornton did was uncalled for, but honestly, you won't see a play like that result in the suspension of one of the league's best players.

    Post-GAME 4: Red Wings 3, Sharks 2 (OT)

That's unbelievable. We go from being essentially eliminated from this series to sending it back to the Joe all tied up, and with all the momentum in the world. I'm sure San Jose is just stunned right now, especially since they had this game all but locked up with 30 seconds to go. What a play by Schneider to knock that puck down.

GAME 4 GDT 5/2: Red Wings at Sharks LIVE

That's just crazy. The Wings score with 30 seconds left to tie it, and go from being practically eliminated from the series to being right back in it. In fact, given the demoralizing way the Sharks lost it tonight, I'd say we have the upperhand. Gotta feel for Rivet though. They really need to change that rule.

GAME 4 GDT 5/2: Red Wings at Sharks LIVE

Believe me harold, there's nobody here who gets annoyed more than myself when people start blaming the refs. But to be fair, they really, really screwed up on San Jose's second goal. That's just flat out stupid and clueless officiating. I've been impressed with Holmstrom's fearlessness in front of the net given his eye injury. I'd have it would make him much more tentative, but I guess it's the only way Tomas knows how to play. At some point one of the Eurotwins just has to score. It's inconceivable to think that they'd both get shutout in every road game this post-season.

GAME 4 GDT 5/2: Red Wings at Sharks LIVE

Judging by the way posters were getting jumped on after the Wings gave up the first goal, no you are not allowed to voice your displeasure. Sorry harold, but you're not going to catch me in a good mood when the Wings are accomplishing nothing in their biggest game of the season and people are constantly getting scolded for calling Detroit out on their pathetic play.

GAME 4 GDT 5/2: Red Wings at Sharks LIVE

Guys stop complaining or else the thread police will come by and tell you that you're not a "real" fan because you don't enjoy watching the Wings lose. At least in Game 3 we had a good start before we started pissing the game away.

GAME 4 GDT 5/2: Red Wings at Sharks LIVE

It doesn't help when your two best offensive players have been stonewalled on the road this post-season. I really don't know what the problem is with Hank and Pavel, they certainly don't look too bad out there.

GAME 4 GDT 5/2: Red Wings at Sharks LIVE

The defenceman on the play was Chelios. it's hard to fault him there, because he had three Sharks to handle down low. I'm still not sure how that happens when none of the Wings have even left the zone yet.

GAME 4 GDT 5/2: Red Wings at Sharks LIVE

That's extremely frustrating for the Wings to have a very well-organized power-play unit keep the Sharks hemmed in their zones for the entire 2 minutes, only to have a stupid play in our own end give the first goal to the Sharks almost immediately after. And after yet another clean faceoff loss in the defensive zone by Lang to set that goal up, I'm wondering just how much ice time he's going to see in the second. Filppula deserves his spot.
