If he is as skilled as the Wings would like him to turn out to be it's highly likely they will curtail any natural reaction he has to fight... Since Holland has actively persued him then I guess the answer is yes. It floors me how we can have the most successful hockey team of the past 15 years without question and people still find reasons to second guess this teams judgement. Ken Holland has been the GM of that team for 13 of those 15 years, has he made a mistake or two... Sure but given his track record I am not one to pass judgement on his decisions before I see them played out. You can't find better odds than betting on Ken Holland.

Sergei had unrivaled raw talent. Even above Lidstrom in my opinion. Lidstrom to me is the greatest Red Wing to ever don the jersey in the modern era but it's because of his mental capacity for the game that he's so great. Lidstrom also has heart, and physical talent that's up their with the best. Raw talent, Fedorov could have been up there with Gretzky. He lacked the mental aspect and the heart. Yzerman had the physical ability, the heart, and the mental capacity for the game. The problem with Yzerman and the reason he doesn't surpass Lids is because of his injuries, I almost feel like his mental game developed more after his body wouldn't allow him to simply dominate physically. Datsyuk and Zetterberg both have some of the pieces to be mentioned with Red Wing greats for a long time, but I'm not ready to bestow them with that honor just yet.

Who cares if it's a loop hole? The team is still taking a gamble. What if Kovy wants to play till he's 44 to get every dollar but he sucks after he's 37, he's eating up a lot of cap space at that point. Stop being so bitter, it's NJ's problem not ours.

Wings standard = HHOF level of talent + career Red Wing. Time in jersey: Why Fedorov, Shanahan, Hasek, and Chelios aren't retired here. Not HHOF Status: Why guys like Draper and Homer won't be retired. And why Konstintiov won't be. Based on our current standard, Lidstrom is a lock, and Osgood has a shot as do Zetterberg and Datsyuk.

Zetterberg is incredible. One of the best.
