This is turning into a more interesting thread than I originally intended. Some great ideas, even some players I forgot about and for the record yes they have to be active now. Or at least reasonably able to come out of retirement. So deceased players just won't work.

Thanks for all the great reply's, I was just bored last night, and yes they should be active or at least alive, I'm all for bringing Sawchuck back but I am not sure the a corpse would stop many pucks at this point. Didn't think about Kozlov but that's a great idea!

There are a lot of players I respect for their contributions to the game or their skill, Gretzky, Lemieux, Sakic, Broduer and even Sid the Kid...then there are a few players I think are really great charater guys, or guys I've personally met that were cool like Modano, Tkachuck, David Moss...I like goalies but most of the current crop are either streaky or not all that exciting to watch, I miss the athletic saves, the butterfly although incredibly effective is not near as fun to watch. Alex Ovechkin would be the only player I can truly say that I am a fan of who isn't currently or hasn't been a Red Wing. Seeing him again live on Saturday night, as much as the homer in me would like to think that Datsyuk or Zetterberg are every bit as good as AO he really is on another level offensively.

Anyone have any ideas where I might be able to find such an animal? Thanks!

Last year Todd Bertuzzi had 15 Goals, and 29 Assists for 44 points. If you're telling me that Bertuzzi looks the same as last year, I'll take that to the bank. Yes he was -13 but Phaneuf was -11 and even the great Iginla was -2, consider the team as well.

There is a huge difference, Robert Lang made 5million a season and rarely played like a 5million dollar player, I would have had no problem with Lang at 1.5 million. That's all Bertuzzi makes, those that expect a 30goal 60pt crushing power forward are setting themselves up for disappointment. Let's be honest, if he were still capable of that he wouldn't be here making 1.5. Level set your expectations then judge his play, he is doing fine, he's not a bargin but he's also not overpaid.

He was "signed" to a pro-tryout. Players are signed and get paid for their tryouts.

Congrats Kid!!!" LMAO Howard has to be pissed, in fairness to Cloutier if he really does out play Jimmy then welcome the team and I guess we'll know that Jimmy was never meant to be an NHL goalie.

Holland said that was simply to give our home fans a chance to see them, and to jump start their auction, the jersey's were all sold after that game. I like the fact that we only have a third jersey once every 16 years, it makes them special!

The Red Wings have had plenty of varations or "third' jerseys. Just none that are ever worn on the ice. See above post for exceptions.

There is no such thing as a decent television delivery system anymore... DirecTV, Comcast, AT&T Uverse, WOW, Time Warner, Dish Network... We have more options now than we've ever had and yet rates keep going up not down, yet every other technology gets cheaper over time. f*** television! The Ipod I bought a year ago is 100 cheaper, the laptop I bought 3 years ago is not worth half of what it once was, My PS3 just had a 100 price drop... What's worse is we don't even get reliability, my internet slows down or goes offline, my television pixelizes. BULLs***

I think Osgood is the X-factor, if you can even call him that. If we get the same Ozzie this year as we did the last two post seasons, this team has the rest of the pieces to win a cup.

I think he should come back and play for the Griffins and or take a nice Wings management job, a scout, assistant coach, player developer. Something.

Realistically I would try to bring in Frolov and then back fill with our own free agents bring back the best performers out of Holmstrom, Maltby, Eaves, Bertuzzi, Williams. On D I would do the same maybe bringing in Robidas. Most of the players listed are RFA's and I can't see us trading/stealing any of them.

As EUZ eluded, who do we move if Lilja does become healthy? Either Lebda or Meech would be a foregone conclusion but we would still be slightly over the cap, Has anyone seen an official number on Bert? I am thinking 1million with .500+ in easily obtainable bonuses that could be deferred till next season would make more sense for the Wings cap situation.

With Abdelkader in GR next year the Wing are actually about 500k under the cap, if you ad in Bertuzzi you'd be 1mill over, subtract Lilja due to injury and you are around 250k under. If lilja comes back you have to free up 1mill, this would lead me to believe A. Abdelkader will be in GR most of the year and B. Lilja's injry might be career ending. Of course there is the possibility Bertuzzi's contact could be less with bonuses.
