I blame Charlie Sheen for not sharing his Tigers Blood and Adonis DNA.

Why I don't want to play LA in the first round
Booster313 replied to CrimsonFlame's topic in General
Holy s***... crazy!@? Reminds me of when you spin a ping pong ball. Thanks for the slowdown. -
The whole point to this was we have the cap space to bring in some real talent on either D or at Forward. We can bring in up to 4-6million in free agents depending on how we want to spend it. EDIT: Helm is signed through next year so unless you think he is going to renegotiate his contract that's what he will make.
-
I just meant not paying 6-8 million I am thinking a 70-80pt player just didn't feel like filling in a name. If we spend less great.

This roster keeps just Eaves out of him, Draper, Miller, and Modano. It also brings back Lidstrom at 6.2, Ozzie at 600k, and Ericsson at 1.2m. Our signings include a Reasonable Forward at 5.5million, and a Solid Defensman at 1mill. This senario would leave us with 50k in cap space, not ideal. So we would either go cheaper on the forward or sign Draper at league Min and let Eaves go instead. Of course you could tweak this lots of ways but anyway you put it we should be in a great situation where we have to decide who we keep/letgo to bring in some fresh talent. FORWARDS Pavel Datsyuk ($6.700m) / Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Johan Franzen ($3.954m) Valtteri Filppula ($3.000m) / Jiri Hudler ($2.875m) / Daniel Cleary ($2.800m) Todd Bertuzzi ($1.937m) / Reasonable Forward ($5.500m) / Darren Helm ($0.912m) Justin Abdelkader ($0.787m) / Jan Mursak ($0.550m) / Tomas Holmstrom ($1.875m) Patrick Eaves ($1.500m) DEFENSEMEN Brian Rafalski ($6.000m) / Brad Stuart ($3.750m) Niklas Kronwall ($3.000m) / Jakub Kindl ($0.883m) Nicklas Lidstrom ($6.200m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($1.200m) / Solid Defensman ($1.000m) GOALTENDERS Jimmy Howard ($2.250m) / Chris Osgood ($0.600m) CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter) (these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion) SALARY CAP: $63,400,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,358,711; BONUSES: $0 CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $41,289

I think we did an outstanding job last night! We did start strong, we just let the game get away from us in a hurry. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall during the 2nd intermission. As far as a switch, I don't think it's on or off... I'd like to think of it more as a dial that is a few notches louder than before but the lack of a full roster may make the stretch run before the playoffs a bit of a challenge, that and the lack of getting on a roll with a full roster has me concerned for the first round. If we can get out of the first we have a great chance at a cup.

It really is a tough call just for the reasons already mentioned, we have some youth available but it really depends on how "ready" these young players are. We don't want a team of grinders and too much youth either.

Owners back Gary Bettman with 5-year contract extension
Booster313 replied to Barrie's topic in General
I don't like Bettman anymore than the next guy, but there is clearly some very biased hate towards him that's unwarranted and misguided. He has at least financially done his job. As far as rules and gameplay, he is at the mercy of the NHLPA and the owners. We have seen it numerous times, since the lockout. If the majority wants something done it will happen, the most recent example is the shoot-out win points being removed from the tie-breaker criteria. -
I think Holmstrom and Rafalski will retire the same year as lids... Well I guess I could see Rafalski signing maybe a 1-2yr deal after this at a reduced price but I don't think he has ever had a leadership role on this team. 2011-2012 C- Lidstrom A Zetterberg A Datsyuk (I don't think Draper will be asked back after this year unless Eaves and Miller both leave for more $) 2012-2013 C Zetterberg A Datsyuk A Kronwall

Did you have to discuss Ozzie's groin and use the term "bone up"? LOL That being said, I think Ozzie will have plenty of time to get ready, unless one or the other gets really hot I am hoping for a 50/50 split until the last 4-5 games. It's hard to believe their are only 18 or so games left in the season.

Howard > Niemi all day long... I don't like Niemi, I didn't like him last year and I don't like him this year.
-
I think Pavel would vote for Hank to get it as well... The OP's reasons seem to be based on Datsyuk being the superior player and I don't know that I'd argue depending on the day, but the most talented player on the team isn't necessarily the best captain, this is true of most teams.

Osgood makes 1.4 right now, Jimmy makes around 750k so that's a total cap hit this year of 2.15m. If we resign Ozzie or another backup next year for league min then our total goaltending expense is only going up by 550-650k for the next two years. I'd say that's a good deal. If Jimmy stays the same it's fair for a mid-talent goalie who helps us win games, if Jimmy improves then it's a steal and if we decide to go a different direction well then he's tradable because of the length/dollar amt. Great flexible options with this deal.

Anyone else think that a 44yr old Timmy Thomas might be a little farther than a close call?!
-
Looks like a clean hit to me... he certainly got his bell rung... no question about going easy there.

In theory that all makes sense but since we are up against the cap we have to weaken our team somewhere to upgrade somewhere else. So what players would you like to see go for what players you'd like to see come in? It's like cutting off your nose to spite your face. I am sure if the right deal presents it's self Kenny will make it happen but it has to be the right deal, like Stuart. That's what we've always done.
-
Unless you want a complete overhaul of our team this is what we'll likely get every year because we spend to the cap during the summer.

My experience with Brett was far different, and I don't think Chelios really has an issue with him because, when I met them they were hanging out together at Cheli's restaurant in Dearborn. (along with Shanahan and Tkchuck) We caught Brett walking thru the lobby, my buddy had just gotten back from Iraq. Brett invited us both in Chelios's private room where we met the rest of the players, they signed autographs and took pictures. Very nice.

RECAP so far: Holland: Osgood practiced full out this morning, if he has a good week may just stand pat. Holland: If tonight were a playoff game, might pressure doctors to clear Modano. Holland: Close to Cap, not in a position for a rental player. Holland: For the most part I don't see us doing a lot. Holland: Your team has to be comfortable in low scoring, tight checking games. Recently we have done that and hopefully we can continue to get better.

According to TSN "Even the struggling Steve Mason could be on the move in Columbus" what do you think it would take to pry him away from a division rival. I say it's a long shot at best.

2011 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - February 28th, 3:00 PM ET
Booster313 replied to NeverForgetMac25's topic in General
According to TSN Steve, they sited his struggles this year. I found it hard to believe as well, and I didn't realize he had two years remaining on his contract. I find it even less plausible at this point. As Jamie and Adam would say.... BUSTED. -
My idea for goalie from Trade Deadline

A lot of players donate their autograph money to charity. he either meant that you can't get a ticket to a Red Wings game for 5 bucks or that's his perception. It was that was for many many years and casual hockey fans still assume it is. I say make him the assistant defensive coach!
